Cathy Hyland, a mother of two girls, was last seen in Gaylord Michigan on 2-28-1992.

She was in the middle of a divorce from her husband, John Hyland Jr. The two met to determine a custody arrangement for their daughters, age 9 & 11.

In 1993 John Hyland Jr was charged with first degree criminal sexual assault (penetrative) and sent to prison. Upon his release (about 2011) he was supposed to register as a sex offender, but he left Michigan for Alabama and did NOT register as an offender.

Per The Charley Project, John Hyland Jr was charged in 1999 with the 1991 sexual assault of his two daughters.

The girls ended up being raised by Cathy's family.

While Hyland has never been arrested or charged in Cathy's murder, he certainly had means and motive to make her disappear.

Details of Disappearance

Hawley was last seen at her condo in Maple Ridge Estates in Gaylord, Michigan during the evening of March 3, 1992. She has never been heard from again. Investigators believe she was the victim of a homicide.

The prime suspect in her case is her husband, John Hyland Jr. In 1999, he was convicted of sexually assaulting his two daughters in 1991; the girls were eight and nine years old at the time of the abuse. He was sentenced to 18 to 27 years in prison.

Little information is available in Hawley's case.

I think he is still around, being 93 now, (sorry for saying) so shake that tree before he takes his secret(s) to his grave.

John Vincent Hyland, Jr. is perhaps one of the most litigious criminals around. He filed numerous appeals while in prison and sued numerous public officials and offices - including at least two Presidents of the United States.

An on-line search will turn up some of his trials, appeals and court decisions. Most of his efforts were denied or dismissed in publicly available published opinions.

He is 93 now and has yet to shed any light on his wife's disappearance. She has been missing for over 30 years now.
