Detroit police have arrested a suspected serial rapist wanted in a series of attacks on the city’s east side. Police said 18-year-old Darian Winfield was taken into custody during a traffic stop in the 5900 block of Harrell in Detroit.

Two assaults linked to the case happened on Radnor Street; and another nearby on Haverhill near Mack Ave. and Moross. All three involved home invasions. Police said a fourth incident that could be connected involved a woman who was attacked while walking at Mack and Cadieux in Grosse Pointe Park. Craig said all of the assaults happened within a one-mile radius; the first one during the second week of December and the last on Thursday.

A Detroit teenager who was sexually assaulted at home on the city's east side died of her injuries Tuesday. Detroit police confirmed the 17-year-old's death. "She was on life support and the family elected to take her off," Sgt. Michael Woody said Tuesday.

The teen, whose name has not been released, was attacked about 7:30 a.m. Jan. 7 near the 5500 block of Radnor. The home was broken into and the assailant used some kind of blunt weapon in the attack, police said.

THat ^^^ is why cops make traffic stops. I know people complain about cops stopping people for broken tail lights, etc. But many times they take dangerous people off the streets by making those stops.

Now we are learning that Darian Winfield is not the first member of his family to be charged with rape. Last summer FOX 2 told you about Darian Winfield's uncle - Durand Winfield.

Durand is a convicted sex offender accused of sex trafficking and raping other women. His case was dismissed, now Darian's family is hoping for the same.

"We were going to the precinct on Gratiot to clear his name," said Ellis Pace, Damian's mother. "Because (they) have the wrong person - that's not my son."
