"According to Detroit Police Major Crimes Cmdr. Rebecca McKay, officers were in the area talking to people about a missing person when a man ran up to them and said he had just been assaulted inside the home on Edsel.

The man also reportedly told officers there were dead people in the house."

Oh wow!
The man assaulted in the house was lucky there were officers in the area. Must have been terrifying.
Hope they make an arrest soon

Is Fox an approved source on this thread? There’s no moderator online currently to ask about an article saying the bodies were of 3 men, beaten to death

fox national is probably not allowed but fox local affiliates such as Fox2 Detroit are perfectly fine I believe.

When the officers went to that home on Edsel, they found three men dead in the basement. Police said it appeared the victims had been brutally assaulted.

Family members identified one of the victims as Norman Hamlin, who they say was a military veteran.

''The bodies of three middle-aged men who were apparently “brutally” beaten were found in the basement of a Michigan home after Detroit police were called to about a missing person, according to authorities and news reports.

The discovery was made at a residence in southwest Detroit on Wednesday, February 18, Detroit Police Commander Rebecca McKay said in a video provided to news outlets, the Detroit Free Press reported.''

''local resident Thomas Barnes, who spoke with the TV station, said that he knows the man who lives where the bodies were allegedly discovered. Barnes shared that he grew up with him and had seen him as recently as last week.

“At first, we didn’t know if it was an overdose or an actual murder because the officers couldn’t talk about it,” Barnes said to WXYZ. “We don’t know the actual identity of the men or whoever it might be, and I’m hoping and praying that it’s not [the homeowner].”

Interesting that the neighbor's first thought was maybe a drug overdose. Suggests he may know or think his neighbor is a drug user? I wish a reporter had asked him about whether he had noticed unusual traffic to and from the residence.

so what is everyone thinking about the bodies, were all the men killed at the same time or over time in different events? I think the latter.

''Bond says he grew up with Hamlin and the two played in a band together around Detroit. Bond checks on his brother with special needs across the street from Hamlin's home.
"My concern has elevated over the last few months, seeing all of the activity that was happening over there," Bond said.
Fitzgerald said the man who owned the home was known to open his home up to a lot of people.''

'An individual has been taken into custody as the investigation continues into the circumstances of three men found dead earlier this week in a Detroit home.

A Detroit Police Department spokesperson confirmed Friday morning that a "person of interest" was in custody and that the department's Homicide Task Force continues the investigation into the case. '

'The victims have, in the meantime, been identified as Mark Barnett, 65; Norman Hamlin, 66; and William Barrett, 72. Hamlin was the primary resident of that home, according to police. '

''The victims were discovered in a basement area, with some covered in old, dirty clothing and one wrapped in a carpet.
''Neighbors remember Hamlin as a good man who struggled with drug addiction.
He served in the Marine Corps and fought in the first Iraq War.
Police have not confirmed whether the killings are drug-related, but acknowledged that drug activity was occurring in the home.
Hamlin’s friend Joel Bond said, “He got sidetracked on some things. He went into the military, served his country, and it’s just a tragedy as to what happened, it really is.”

Bond added, “He seemed to have set up a safe environment for people to come over and use [drugs] at the house. And of course, as we know, that’s dangerous. You don’t know who’s coming into your house.”

“I grew up on the streets. I know what a drug house looks like, and people that are users, I know what it looks like. So, from an outside perspective, I do understand that it was, it was a place where people would come and use drugs and whatnot,” Bond said.
3 men found dead with hammer wounds inside SW Detroit home in suspected drug-related killing

so the homeowner/occupant, Norman, was reported missing. As police were there to investigate that report, a man came running out of the home saying he'd been assaulted and there were three dead men in the basement. I am going to SPECULATE that the man who left the residence claiming to have been assaulted is in fact the killer and the person who is now in custody.

How sad. When you hear about drug users you might envision a younger person. But addiction can last a lifetime. It makes me sad to envision these three victims at their ages hanging out in that house doing drugs :( Prayers for their loved ones.
