A relative of Fields described him as "a very violent, scary person" in an interview with Fox 2 Detroit.

"You could tell that he had a lot of control over [Diaz]," Ken Stambaugh, Fields' cousin, told the station. "If another man came into the room she put her head down, wasn't allowed to talk or had to leave the room."

After reading through the thread I am still a bit unclear on why they were so quick to charge mom with murder vs treating her as a victim? Looking at their history it seems to me Fields not only murdered her daughter in a fit of rage after previously trying to kill her dog (and possibly her) and apparently beating the little one repeatedly, but then took CR with him when he tried to run. She is not mom of the year by any stretch, but I don't think she knew how to better herself or her situation under the cloud of Field's abuse.

Mom knew what she was doing. Fields has been with her longer than the child. IMO, adults make choices and need to be held accountable....especially when child abuse and murder are involved.

Where is Gabby's dad? When I watch the photo compilation in this article, I get the impression that he loved her very much, and was part of her life... consistently. He is there when she is little, and there are many photos of them together and then poof, there is a huge gap in photos and you don't see him anymore. Do we have any word on dad?

You can tell in the photos that when she is older that Gabby looks more despondent. So strange and twisted and tragic. UGH.

4 years of hell for that little dolly. The burns alone. I cant even begin to imagine her screams. Yet it happened! May they both rot. Slowly. I am so sick of these cases. Violence, drugs etc. etc. And the excuses. I am an abused woman! Close your god dam legs if your not in control of your own life. Yet the children suffer. I'm so mad!

The articles say that she was being tended to by “family” ... but no clue as to what family members. Where was mom and boyfriend? If they were in the home, it isn’t likely they let them slip away.

Of course they would let them slip away...they let them get away with horrific abuse without stopping them.

I'm having a difficult time seeing through my tears. It seems we are seeing this on a daily basis now. There are so many childless couples that would give anything to adopt a child, yet parents/care givers etc. resort to the unthinkable.

Seriously. We have five kids and I would be more than willing to save any child from horrific life and death like sweet Gabby suffered.

Nope. No excuses. I've been reading similar thoughts on several threads here lately, and I'll take a hard line on this one: I don't care how abused the mother was. It's INSTINCTUAL to protect your children. Animals do it. It's literally programmed into our genes to protect our offspring.

There. Is. No. Excuse. For. Allowing. Your. Children. To. Be. Abused.

Whether it's by their own biological parent, a step parent, a grandpa, an uncle, a neighbor, a new boyfriend, a new girlfriend, a best friend...there's no excuse.

In May 2016, Fields was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic violence after Diaz accused him of assaulting her multiple times and shooting her dog. After Fields was arrested, police accused him of staging what he claimed was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a contemporaneous report from MLive.com.

So back almost 2 years ago - he assaulted her and she STILL went back to him???

I say - burn both of them.... :stormingmad: let them "see" how Gabby felt!! :maddening:
