:seeya::seeya:
This is the latest flyer floating around town..... I do not believe it is connected however we do not have missing people very often in this town. Any thoughts?

Each websleuth has their own unique contribution to make. I have not been able to cut and paste so this was great to have the flyer on websleuths. It allows others to see how amy matches up with Jessica.:Bennymonkey::Bennymonkey::Bennymonkey::Bennymonkey::Bennymonkey:

While I was searching for information on Amy Duck I ran across some information in a post(I couldnt retrieve it again) which said that the Norton Shores police search team
has been cut to one man looking for Jessica.

By watching shows covering cases that were eventually solved, it seems LE usually has a suspect or two early on. Sometimes it turns out the main suspect isn't guilty even though it appeared likey to be him or her. In J's case, LE focused solely on the videos of the van. I'm wondering, since they abruptly dropped the subject of the van, if they have identified it but haven't been able to pin down the driver (or enough evidence) in order to announce any details on the subject. LE may think if they sit, watch and wait that something will give and eventually allow them to proceed with the case armed with more evidence. This fits with the comment made along the line of someone knowing something more and they need to come forward. Of course the perp knows but someone else may know too. If they're afraid to come forward, it may take a long time before they do.

The fact that there hasn't been extensive searches of the surrounding area is baffling. What evidence exists to believe/support Jessica is still alive? Hope is good but let's be real too.

Another thought - if the van isn't involved, I doubt LE would come out and say that they've been wrong all along about the van (since they focused strongly on it for the first few weeks). They'd probably just back away from commenting which it seems like what they've done. Of course there's the remark when the Chief said the van is the van so why I'm doubting his word now I don't know. Should we consider the van fact? He stated it as fact. If that's the case, LE must know details about the van by now and can't let the public in on what they know as it would jeopardize the investigation.

IMO, LE is always going to say the person is believed to alive, without actual evidence to show otherwise. They also often say "someone out there knows something", hoping to prompt memories.

I don't think LE has any evidence of anything pertaining to Jessica, except that she is gone.

That's one more than they apparently had looking for the van.

I tend to agree with you. I just hope that LE hasn't been blinded by tunnle vision. I've seen that happen so many times before then the case goes cold and is never solved.

Am I wrong, or did they search for Amy? I believe quite a few locations. I am just wondering what makes Jessica's case different? I may be wrong but wasn't Amy in a van?!

I just don't understand. Will Jessica be found? I hope so. I am losing faith though.

Amy went missing in her own vehicle - a dark blue Chevy Venture with hubcaps missing. I don't know much about the searches for Amy because she was located rather quickly.

There were searches for Jessica in the first 72 hours or so after she was reportedly abducted, but there haven't been organized searches since then. I don't understand the lack of searches. The "one mission - find Jessica" slogan on the Find Jessica Heeringa Facebook site is baffling to me. How does anyone expect to "find Jessica" when no one is really looking for her?

That seems to be the case - in a nut shell.

I remember in another a case a while back, a missing man was found because search teams who were training decided to do a training exercise there bc of the known circumstances. I thought this was brilliant. If resources are an issue here, maybe they can get some teams who are training to look at her case? Some of the potential search areas are so wooded, and its difficult to know where to start since she was taken in a vehicle, but some ideas have been presented here in the initial threads (park areas). It couldn't hurt to try there. Would be good experience for the trainees.

I saw on fb Jessica's grandparents continue to be at the command post every weekend. Bless their hearts.

Police Chief on Jessica Heeringa case: Now is not the time for independent ground searches

http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2013/05/police_chief_on_jessica_heerin.html

Most of this article addresses the subject of ground searches and why they are not advised by Norton Shores Police Chief Shaw.

This article was from May 14th, so about 2 and a half weeks after Jessica was abducted.
Now that it has been 3 months since Jessica was abducted, I wonder if they will Ever change their mind about ground searches?

And from that same article..........

"Authorities have said they believe she is alive and can still be brought home safely."

So how do they know after (at that point) 2 and a half weeks that Jessica could be brought home safely??
Is that One of the Reasons why they won't do ground searches? Do they actually Know more than what they are saying? Did they know more Then than they do Now??

I doubt it. There is reportedly only one investigator working the case at this time, and it has been a couple of months since there have been any LE updates. I fear that this case has gone cold. :(

If true, that is frustrating. It's not like Norton Shores is inundated with crime. It's rates are way below national averages. You would think they have the means and man power to assign more than one investigator to a case such as this.

"Prayer doesn't find missing people -- Dedication does" by Chelsea Hoffman
Oh I notice (******) I'm not allowed to post the link to this article. It was posted on July 24.

Although I feel prayer is meaningful and serves a purpose for believers, I also understand the point of the article. Prayer can offer guidance and comfort but it doesn't usually result in a solution being dropped down from the sky.

If they really want to find out what happened to Jessica, they could begin by ruling out she's not nearby laying out in the elements.

The opinion/choice of not conducting searches is similar to the McStay family of four who went missing out of Fallbrook, CA in 2010.
I remember posting that the sketch in Jessica's case reminds me of Joey McStay. My vivid imagination gets going and I wonder about reasons for disappearing related to drugs and other weird stuff. In the McStay case, Tim Miller came out to search. After a quick look-see, a briefing with LE and one sonar search along a straight highway route, searches were called off. TES left and went onto a new job. Why?
There are almost always searches when someone goes missing. They don't always find a body but, after the authorities finish doing extensive initial searches, the families almost always continue to organize and conduct searches hoping they'll find some clue or the person.

Due to the lack of searches, I think there's more to Jessica's history and LE and family have suspicions that they're keeping private.
The McStay family situation has the same unusual feel about it.
