Right, with the witness Knowing Jessica, I find it strange as well that it wasn't reported immediately. A stranger might not know the lights were supposed to be on in the back, a stranger might not know the details about the ins and outs of the Exxon station and protocol and the people working there, but with a person Knowing Jessica and knowing that she worked there and also worked there herself, it is very peculiar indeed! Then nobody can locate the van or person driving?? But yet the witness gave a ten out of ten sketch of the driver?? Yuppers, it just ain't fittin'!!

Is the coworker who supposedly witnessed the abduction the same one who's shift Jessica took that night???
I find it peculiar as well... if you did not think something was suspicious, why would you take such note of what they looked like, what they were driving... but not suspicious enough to CHECK ON JESSICA? Unless they thought they were witnessing something they found suspicious for another reason. What if they THOUGHT they were watching Jessica doing something illegal? What if they thought for what ever reason, that say, she was selling drugs out of the store... and thought they were witnessing a drug transaction? Would they have likely watched, took note of the van etc with the idea of turning Jessica in the next day? ( not saying that is at all what happened.. just what they might have been thinking?)

I don't think it was stated whose shift Jessica was taking over when she wanted to get more hours so as to take care of her son.
It is interesting to note that the lights were off in the back and the back door open. Now who did that is the big question, and why....and then it went awry from there, which lead to the "abduction". So, who opened the door and turned the lights off? Jessica, the perp, or someone else? If she had a "helper" that night helping her close did that person open the door? Looking at the multiple cleaning/work projects left undone, it sure looks like there was someone else helping her close. I understand multi-tasking, but cleaning a machine at the same time the cash drawer is left out? It just doesn't add up. IMOO.

Trying to find the articles that mentions who saw what.

Jessica Heeringa missing two months, private investigator reveals new clues 6:51 AM, Jun 19, 2013 -
However we've now learned that before Jessica's disappearance, a silver van was spotted by a worker across the street. He told our investigator that around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, the night Jessica Hearing disappeared, he saw a silver van driving slowly and suspiciously around the building where he worked.

Q: So just to get it correct, the silver van circled around and went down the street and then turned around, faced the Exxon station down the street?

A: That's correct, the witness said he saw the van go down the street and face the Exxon for at least 10 or 15 minutes.

Ok...so could the silver van have been waiting for something... say a signal ( such as the lights in back being turned off?) to come to the store?

  • #345
I'm still baffled by the fact that another employee of the gas station just happened to drive by just in time to possibly witness her colleague, Jessica Heeringa, being abducted but chose to sit and watch what was going on instead of stopping at the Exxon station to make sure that Jessica was alright. THAT strikes me as being very peculiar. Not to mention, also, that this individual provides the description of the silver minivan and the POI that everyone has been looking for since the night that Jessica was "abducted".

I can't speak for everyone here, but there is something going on here that isn't right. "It ain't fittin'. It ain't fittin'. It just ain't fittin'." (Hattie McDaniel in Gone With the Wind.) :moo:

I have questioned that since day one why was that employee there that night

Ok...so could the silver van have been waiting for something... say a signal ( such as the lights in back being turned off?) to come to the store?

I think the person in the guitar store parking lot was the lookout .

  • #347
But why make up a story about a silver van, for example, if the witness was somehow "involved"? Easy enough to say nothing, knowing there were no cameras, or say you saw nothing unusual. My guess is he/she did not recognize what they had seen until she heard Jessica was missing. As far as why she was there...who knows. Didn't someone say there was a place to shoot pool there? Maybe you have to smoke outside?

Way back in the beginning, IIRC.. the witness stated that they drove past the store, noticed the lights were off, drove about half a mile down to the Meijer store parking lot, turned around, came back, parked in the guitar store lot and observed the silver van and Jessica. Stated the diver of the van drove past them and they were able to provide a description of him and the van. Then they left.
My question has always been.. why, if you are concerned, dont you stop at the store?? WHy go past and pull into the guitar store lot, and watch???
ANd if you had just abducted someone... would you drive slowly past the only other car in the area... close enough for them to closely describe you.. down to the part in your hair??? Wouldnt you drive away from any witnesses??? Not like there was no choice. It was dark, and late and the van driver have easily driven the opposite direction, or looked away so they could not have seen his face???

Trying to find the articles that mentions who saw what. So far; this is what I have. Nothing about Meijer; the tip came from someone that works across the street

Witness: Man in van flirting with Jessica Heeringa at gas station 8:14 PM, May 1, 2013 - CVanA was buying gas about 3 hours before Heeringa reported missing. He works at a store within sight of the station and told police just as he was leaving Exxon Friday night, a van pulled into the parking lot.

Michigan Mother Disappears From Late Night Shift at Gas Station April 28, 2013

.... made her last sale at the Exxon gas station in Norton Shores, Mich., at 11 p.m. Friday, police said....

Heeringa's purse and keys were left behind and the cleaning supplies she always took out at closing time were on the counter, her mother said

NS PD Chief Daniel Shaw said today that it appeared robbery was not a motive, and that the store's cash drawer was left untouched.

SH said someone saw her daughter "walk out of the store with this guy like there was no problem," but when they got to his van, a struggle ensued.

Norton Shores missing person's mom: Jessica Heeringa is 'loved by everyone April 28, 2013

“I’m sure she was abducted,” Shelly Heeringa said. “(There was) no struggle. She was cleaning a machine, she left her car keys, (and) no money was taken from the gas station.”

Suspect, Vehicle Described In Jessica Heeringa Abduction “As a store clerk, she has contact with a lot of people,” Shaw says. ”Most of the people who have talked to us so far have indicated that she’s a very pleasant person – very sociable – so she engages in conversation with all of her customers, so it’s very possible that she may have known this person.”

Wilder agreed on Facebook, citing that the store typically has the same customers regularly: “This was also NOT just some random person that took her,” she posted. ”It was someone she knew.”

Police: Michigan gas station clerk abducted, officers follow big clue 4:48 PM, April 29, 2013

The Chrysler minivan raised suspicion because it may have been there in the past.

"Other people have contacted them from other gas stations about a gray van pulling up to their gas station and just sitting there staring at the girls who are working inside. And then they take off," said Shelly.

Jessica Heeringa Missing Update: Missing mom may have been trying to help abductor in some way, official says April 29, 2013 5:19 PM ....."There's no sign of a struggle, no sign of anything inside thestore being disturbed," Shaw said. "The cash drawer was sittingout and no money was missing. Her purse was in the store with400-some dollars in it. It's just odd how that occurred."

Jessica Heeringa exclusive update: What was her last transaction? April 30, 2013 The missing woman's boyfriend spoke exclusively for Examiner News, in particular to answer questions regarding her last transaction before the alleged abduction

...Dakotah Quail-Dyer confirmed that the last transaction Jessica made at the Exxon station was approximately 10:55 -- and she was "figured to be gone," by 11:15... ... He confirmed that police spent a considerable amount of time with the Exxon station's owner that night, so they had to have looked closely at the transactions that were made.

Jessica Heeringa Disappearance: Person of Interest Seemed Like 'Just Another Guy Hitting on Her'

An employee at a store adjacent to the gas station where Jessica Heeringa worked the late shift said he noticed a man in a minivan talking to the missing Michigan mother, but didn't think much of the interaction until he learned she had been abducted..

...said he watched a man in a silver minivan approach Heeringa when she was at a gas pump, preparing to close the Norton Shores, Mich., Exxon...

.."He was just like, 'Hey, what are you doing over here? Aren't you supposed to be inside?' Just kind of being real flirty, weird about it," ...

"It was just bizarre that he seemed to be actively looking for her, like he knew her and then had this attitude that he wanted to have a conversation with her and then conduct business, and that is what seemed really out of place to me,"...

Cell phone data crucial to finding Heeringa's alleged abducter 9:04 AM, May 6, 2013 ... but authorities believe cell phone data could be just as important.

If Heeringa had her phone on her, Chief Shaw says they would have been able to track her immediately. But instead, they're trying to track down the suspect's phone, if he has one.

... It didn't take Norton Shores Police long to locate Heeringa's cell phone, left inside the Exxon Mobile Gas Station...

I do not believe it for a second to me it's a bogus story.

This will probably get deleted by the mods =) but till then... maybe the witness described someone that does not exist... to throw off the police? I wondered myself why the witnesses did not go to the police till the following day.. after they heard Jessica was missing. Early posts on the FB site mentioned a co worker telling people she had seen the van etc... I have wondered if she never saw enough ( if anything! ) to really be a witness.. maybe told people "oh. I was there.. I saw..." and then was stuck owning the story??

The cell phone is another aspect of this case that causes me to :banghead:

Dakota says in interviews within the first days following Jessica's disappearance that the couple SHARED a cell phone and that he checked with everyone in the address book to see if anyone had seen or heard from the missing young woman.

According to some reports like the one above, Norton Shores Police found a cell phone with Jessica's belongings at the Exxon station. It appears that Jessica had a cell phone with her while she was at work, so why does Dakota say that they shared a cell phone and that HE had it that night. Did Jessica have a cell phone that her fiancé didn't know about? :waitasec:

I said the same exact thing way back in the beginning. I agree with u

I'd love to know if Jessica was the sort of employee who would close early without her boss knowing.

I'd love to know if the owner or another store employee was known to regularly drive by the store at night or make an unannounced visit inside the store to check on things.

Witness: Van 'scouted' before abduction Police: Jessica Heeringa taken from Exxon Mobil - Updated: Wednesday, 01 May 2013, 7:15 PM EDT Published : Wednesday, 01 May 2013, 5:09 PM EDT

A second witness spotted the minivan going through the parking lot of the strip mall next door, Norton Shores Police Chief Dan Shaw said. Shaw said police believe Heeringa was already in the minivan at that time.

"The van left and drove down this alleyway or roadway (in the strip mall)," Shaw said. "And as the van went by, she was able to see the driver's face."

That witness aided in the creation of the sketch of the possible suspect that was released Tuesday.

Someone posted an article not long ago that the witnesses - the gas station employee and her husband - were actually questioned in the wee hours after Jessica went missing. I hadn't heard this before and always thought that they didn't speak to LE until sometime the following day when they found out that Jessica was missing.

If these "witnesses" were interviewed that night (or very early Saturday morning), how were they contacted and by whom?

Or maybe the witness was there and saw a mini van going by that had nothing to do with Jessica and "used" that mini van as the scape goat. Like "JA" was questioned by police and police asked him if he took her. Does he drive a van? He was at the Exxon station that night. Could the witness have thrown out a Red Herring in the form of the van, and if JA has a van, he was being "used" unbeknownst to him! And the sketch? Please, what ten out of ten.......
IMOO.

I am sure they have to clock out.. so the boss would know if they left early. Unless she occasionally 'forgot' to clock out...
I wonder if the coworker who reported the van LIKED Jessica or not. Is she someone who had a grudge and wanted to 'catch' Jessica at something? I would think is she liked her, she would have responded differently to the whole van incident...

on the comments section to one of the news articles that person posts next to her facebook picture, that she was there until 1:30am talking to police.
