They are attending Kalamazoo College. They travel from the college twice yearly to their homes in Santa Monica ,California. I see them when they come to a local ice skating rink we all go to.:loveyou:

My brother lives in Kzoo. It is 90 minutes away, not 15. I can believe there are people in Kzoo that don't know about Jess.

Agreed. The news probably merited a short article in the local paper there (and I doubt many college students read the newspaper...) The news stations ( and their online counterparts) would have stories on her, but I dont know how much college students follow the news ( my daughter doesnt...)
Locally, it would have been pretty hard to miss- and relatives on the other side of the state have asked me about it... depends where/how you get your news...

I have a friend who lives north of Muskegon who wasn't familiar with the case until I asked what she knew about it. Detroit news outlets reported on Jessica's disappearance early in the case but haven't covered it for months. There is so much local news (Detroit and suburbs - the Tri-County area) that it's just not possible to report on everything that happens statewide.

A 20 year old mother of 2 disappeared from her gas station job at closing time and did not report for work the next day.(this happened in the summer}. LE using a good video of the mans face, and a good video of the mans car were able to find her in less than 24 hours.

With the link that you provided in your post I found an article that I think you are referring to, but with that particular case, there were cameras in the store (not in Jessica Heeringa's case) and also this girl left with the man voluntarily (and that's not the same as in Jessica Heeringa's case as Jessica's is a kidnapping case).
So hindsight is 20/20. Yes, it may have provided better clues if there were cameras in the store at the time Jessica disappeared, but that wasn't the case when Jessica was kidnapped.
This is the link I believe you were referring to....

I wanted to post that I was wrong about a comment I made the other day. The Michigan State Police post in Grand Haven is apparently NOT staffed any more. I talked to an Ottawa County dispatcher today on an unrelated matter, and she told me that it is not regularly staffed, and more often than not, there is nobody in the building. I had no idea.

Sorry for posting false info about that.

We all make mistakes. Facebook needs to be informed as they would have to find another LE. group. Before even the main hunting season can start( with hopes someone can find jessica) two have died. One fell out of his boat with no life vest on leaving his dog and sister also both hunters. The other fell out of his stand 30 feet above the ground. He too was dead when his family found him. He did not have a safety harness on.Good websleuthing.:loveyou:

Since you're local, do you know whether or not the Muskegon County Sheriff's Department is/was involved in any aspect of the case?

Jessica has been missing for more than six months and there has been little progress in the case. I have a few ideas about why there hasn't been any movement towards finding Jessica or solving the mystery of her disappearance, and I'm sure that others here do, as well. Here are my thoughts on the lack of progress in the case. Please share yours.

1) The witness' account of the silver minivan and the description of the alleged abductor isn't reliable information. This likely caused the investigation to focus too much on that vehicle and that perp. It's possible that neither the van nor the man in the sketch are in any way connected to Jessica's disappearance.

2) I have sometimes wondered if NSPD is protecting someone, perhaps one of their own who might be involved somehow in Jessica's disappearance.

3) Lack of cooperation with authorities by people who might have an idea about who took Jessica, the reason why she was targeted, and her possible whereabouts. This could be people who were questioned as part of the investigation and didn't share everything that they know about Jessica's disappearance, or it could be people who have information but are afraid to come forward with it.

" “If we eventually obtain proof she has been taken across state lines, then jurisdiction will switch to the FBI and we will assist,” Shaw said.

In the meantime, Heeringa’s mother, Shelly Heeringa, is conducting her own searches.

“Shelly was working three days a week. The other two days she was going on Google Earth and looking up run-down houses you can’t see from the road,” Homrich said."

I am wondering what steps will Jessica's family be able to take, if the family thinks a certain area needs to be physically searched in the state of Michigan, since Chief Shaw mentioned in the past that there wouldn't be any searches.
IMOO.

I don't know, but I "assume" the sheriff would have talked to Muskegon County sex offenders outside of Norton Shores. NSPD is not very big. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Ottawa County Sheriff helped as well, since NS is just north of the county line.

Three things can not be hidden the sun the moon and the truth Buddha
Its 8 days until the main deer season starts. I understand there are more than 13,000 deer per 10 sq mile area. The hunters including LE hunters will find out the truth of what happened to Jessica. One theory was a hunter took her to a cabin somewhere in the forests nearby to Norton Shores.

How are hunters going to find out "the truth" about what happened to Jessica? Even if hunters locate remains or other evidence that is related to the case, there is no guarantee that the "truth" about her disappearance will ever be known. Human remains that are determined to be Jessica's might bring some measure of closure to her family who would know that their loved one likely met with foul play. That said, remains alone will not solve the case or provide "the truth" about what happened to Jessica, who took her, and/or the reasons why she was abducted. :moo:

Sadly, college kids are probably too preoccupied with "other stuff" to pay any mind at all to someone who was abducted under their noses. Unless it happens to them, well ... it's a society that is completely narcissistic.

A man visiting Silverlake pARK found a human femur 100feet from lake Michigan. DNAtesting is beingdone to match it with missing people. No other remains were found by LE.

there is a very strong chance this could be JessicA IMO, i have pizza fingers so marking this spot. we discussed sand dunes in initial threads. i have always envisioned this route and park areas... will be back to post further on this asap. thanks goldenbear!!

*lake michigan seems to have body parts washing up frequently. i remember some other articles...a femur as well iirc.

from the news link above, they have no open cases....sheesh

Thanks for the map! It looks like a possibility that this could be Jessica IMO but I really hope it isn't. I know we can't really use comments from the article (most of them are really stupid) but one suggests that the bone could be very old. I Wonder why the person thinks so and how he/she knows but it gives me hope that it might not be Jessica. Of course it's somebody else, clearly, but she has a little boy so it would just be unbearable for her never to come home alive.

I guess it's gonna be at least a month before they can determine whether there is a match with a missing person. I can't imagine what Jessica's Family must be feeling right now.

If a rush were put in they could eliminate Jessica with a dna test in 4 days. It would mean putting the femur at the head of the testing line. I am barely awake I have been watching the arnand vs carlson chess championship of the world taking place in India. The femur looks like a girl or small woman.:loveyou:
