Clinton Twp. couple accused of starving 2-year-old son to death

Both Jonathan Cheek and Sierra Zaitona face unrelated charges in other communities

The parents of a 2-year-old son are being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $1 million bond each after they were were charged Monday afternoon with the boy’s starvation death.

Sierra Pearl Zaitona, 27, and Jonathan Matthew Cheek, 25, of Clinton Township were arraigned in 41B District Court on felony murder charges.

There are multiple spellings of Cheek's first name, but I went with the one provided by the office of the Macomb County Prosecuting Attorney.

In a news release posted Dec. 18, the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said a judge sentenced Jonathon Cheek to 24 to 50 years for second-degree murder and 86 months to 10 years for second-degree child abuse after the defendant pleaded no contest to the charges.
