Kayaker missing along St. Joseph River

The Berrien County Sheriff's Office is searching for a kayaker who went missing on the St. Joseph River near the Jasper Dairy Boat Launch in Royalton Township.

Authorities have been searching for the 35-year-old man from the Kalamazoo-area since around 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening.

The Berrien County Sheriff's Office Marine Division conducted an extensive search of the river and found the man's kayak but did not find him.

Asking for prayers to bring home this fellow paddler. Michael Scott went missing yesterday on the St.Joe River at the annual float. He is highly experienced on the river and a very good swimmer! We are asking area residents to keep an eye out for our friend in the local communities in hopes he got lost in the woods. Search and Rescue teams have been dispatched. Please contact local St. Joe County Search and rescue if you see him.

Officials search for reported missing kayaker on St. Joseph River

Berrien County Sheriff's Office marine division and dive team are out on the water now.

UPDATE: Search for missing kayaker in Berrien Co. suspended, to resume Monday

As of Sunday afternoon, divers have been pulled out of the water for the day and will be back at 8 a.m. on Monday to resume their search. The Berrien County Sheriff's Office considered the search high-risk because of high, fast-flowing water and debris, making underwater visibility difficult.

Body believed to be man missing while canoeing

The sheriff’s office says the body matches the description of Scott, but an examination at Western Michigan University will confirm the identity and cause of death.

UPDATED: Body of missing canoer found

UPDATE: The autopsy is being scheduled for Wednesday July 25, 2018 at the Western Michigan University School of Medicine.

The body of a missing canoer was found Monday night in Berrien Springs.
