I haven't kept up with that case. I never understood why Michele was killed. I am suprised to hear the trial hasn't happened yet.

Unfreakin believable ... at least they had the decency to mention that he was in a SUBURBAN Detroit hotel.

Saddest of all? Stabenow is actually fairly well liked and respected here. She's known to get involved if a constituent has a problem that can't be solved/hasn't been looked at. And is generally one of the more approachable politicians.

I'm guessing it was the "hotel" corridor at 14 and i75 that he was busted at. I just can't figure out though, why he drove all the way from lansing to Troy to get a bit of booty. For that price I'm guessing the girl wasn't anything special, no offense to her, just thinking surely he could have found himself a booty call right there in lansing, and probably wouldn't have gotten busted for it quite so easily!

Some of the good she's done here (from wiki)

Stabenow was a leader in the passage of the one of the first laws in the U.S. that required all Michigan children to ride in car seats until age 5.

She authored a domestic violence law which increased criminal penalties for those committing domestic violence offences. Perhaps ironically, Republican members of the State legislature nicknamed her "D-Stabs" around this time. She was the first woman to preside over the House.

In the Michigan Senate, Stabenow was a leader in the passage of bills including Michigan's property tax cuts, small business reforms, and legislation to protect families and children in the state.

Stabenow was the first Senator to author legislation that would waive all transportation fees to Americans trapped in Lebanon, so that their deportation back to America would not cost them.

Stabenow, along with Senator Carl Levin and Rep. John Dingell, announced an agreement that would completely cease Ontario's dumping of solid waste in Michigan within four years. This issue has been a crucial issue in Michigan for the past several years. Previously in the Senate, Stabenow wrote legislation intended to reduce the dumping of Canadian trash into Michigan by requiring machines to search trash being dumped across the border.

Why don't you update it with what's going on with the case noZme, I bet folks will be interested.

Very true. If a thread doesn't get bumped/updated then I don't see it and lose track of it.

huh?????

not sure what you mean... move that topic to the front page? i am a greenfoot here ... just learning about message boards

but if that's the idea, as the trial in july gets nearer, others would probably resume interest

meanwhile... we are off-topic here...my bad... we were talking about married men, wives, strippers & hos

I'll explain this and then we must get back to talking about Married men, wives, strippers & hos ok? lol Everytime a post is made in a thread it goes back to the top of the list. If nothing gets posted, other threads being posted on move to the top and the inactive thread moves further and further down the list. Sometimes you'll come across posts that people make that simply say "Bumping this up". They do that to put the thread at the top of the list again to as you say...bring it to the front page.

This has to be singularly the WORST idea I've heard for economic development.

1. Casinos start out gang busters. It appears "all good". New jobs, people coming into the city to spend money, etc. etc. etc. THEN the shoe drops. See casinos DON'T want people spending their hard earned money anywhere but INSIDE the casino. Local businesses are strangled out as the casino offers incentives to gamblers/vacationers to stay solely on their property.

2. Local families begin to suffer. Gambling addiction is some pretty serious stuff. But shhhhh it's a secret because the casinos don't want anyone to know about the extent of that little problem.

The City of Detroit can fund crucial upgrades to its aging infrastructure and create jobs by tapping into increasing revenues from the three new permanent casinos, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said Wednesday as he unveiled the details of his $300-million economic stimulus plan.

As someone whose parent took their life due to a gambling addiction amongst other things...Let me tell ya, it's one of the HARDEST Things to deal with. I called the casinos trying to have him blacklisted, I couldn't do it - a "gambler" is the ONLY One who can blacklist themselves..Nice huh?

Gamblers Anonymous put on by the Michigan gaming commission won't even talk to you unless you're the one w/ the addiction and the courts will laugh you right out of dodge when you try to get a person help for it.

And with Michigan's economy in general, the people that are "hitting" up the casino's trying to get that quick "windfall" is unbelievable. BUT the casinos make it a very "inviting" environment, hungry? No problem, if you're a regular, they'll bring you food right to your machine. On a hot streak and don't want to leave, but your eyelids are literally drooping? NO problem, they'll comp you a night or two at the hotel, Drinks? on the house. Parking? Validated. Worried about your earnings from the IRS? Hey, no problem, half the time it's the gamblers responsibility to report it. Even calling the IRS did no good. If it's not reported into their system there isn't a way for them to prove it.

Also, it's in Detroit's best interest to get all those casino workers..Why? Anyone who works in the city of Detroit, not only pays fed and state taxes, but also the city of Detroit taxes. AND oftentimes, they are higher than what a person pays in state tax and you get what seems like less than 10% back.

Casino and lottery money is all (well not all but I"m hoping you're getting my drift) supposed to generate revenue for the schools here in Michigan - Well why are our schools here in Michigan always in Danger of losing programs becase there is no funding? Why Does the city of Detroit's Public schools boast a graduation rate of friggin 32%?

I abhor casinos!!!:furious:

Off my soapbox ladies and gents!!

At the risk of sounding bitchy, can we keep the ho word off the thread? These girls that are working the sex industry wouldn't be able to do it if someone wasn't willing to pay. These aren't McNichols and Woodward hookers, these are actually working girls netting a pretty good profit. If someone is willing to pay a girl a grand to get some booty, and she's down with it, more power to her.

It's not her fault the guy is married, that's his issue. I don't know of anyone having sex - paid or unpaid that makes someone fill out a questionnaire asking questions like "are you in a high profile position" "are you married/engaged/in a relationship" etc. LOL

Besides right now in Michigan - Strippers are some of the only employees "getting paid" and still making a good living, unaffected as much by the economy issues we're having here atm.

I've been there (dancing) made a pretty good living at it, met some awesome contacts, and can state that I know some who women AND men who work as escorts. It doesn't always involve sex - I've known some gay men who will take a "pretty girl" out for business functions, auto show etc. as an example.

And in some instances, how is it any different than meeting someone, having a one night stand, after he/she bought dinner, drinks, etc etc. It's still being "paid" for sex, just at hell of alot cheaper rate LOL. However, for some the expectation that "sex will happen" is always there..Kwim?

Of Course, this is all MY OPINION - I can agree to disagree with everyone on the subject, and please my intention is not to start a flame war, argument or the like, just another viewpoint if ya will!:blowkiss:

cough ... cough ... cough ...

I too live in a state with gambling and lotteries are supposed to generate revenue for schools. With all that money, you would think they would have been able to keep their hands of the teacher's retirement funds ... but NOOOOOOOOOOO
