The search warrant for the dodge also says there is a Brahma shoe box on the rear seat. It says shoes, not boots.

Wow, that would make me think they were brand new and purchased for a specific reason.
Very interesting. Especially since Wal-Mart sells that brand.

Here is a brahma work shoe on Wal-Mart.com...

Here is another brahma work shoe from Wal-mart.com....

And, here is a brahma work boot from Wal-Mart.com....

They were even nice enough to show us the soles of the shoes, but not the boots.

While I was on wal-mart's site, I looked at the men's gloves.
They were all made pretty much out of fabric.

I think forensics will be able to get a lot of evidence from those gloves.
Fabric holds on to a lot.

Earlier when we were talking about a money trail, I was thinking this trip/abduction would not have cost DS much.

I was interested in finding out how much money DS would have had to have to make his purchase at wal-mart, so I looked on Wal-Mart’s site. Below I listed the price range of each item because we don’t know the exact item he bought. I could not find tarps on the website so I looked elsewhere for a general idea.

Men’s gloves: $0.99 - $14.55
Shovels: $8.88 - $32.99
Hat $6.99 - $13.99
Tarp $5.00 - $25.00

So, even if you used the highest priced item from each (I doubt DS did that, but just to see the largest cost that he could have concurred) you would only come up to $86.53.

If he happened to make another purchase at that Wal-Mart or another one for the boots/shoes:

Brahma boots or shoes $20.00 - $29.50.

So, the murder kit plus the footwear would cost anywhere from $41.86 to $116.03.

So, approx $100 for the Wal-Mart items, plus gas, and food.

I’m thinking he could have pulled this off for around $250.00.

Not much to show up on a money trail if he used cash. He could have taken $250.00 cash from his ATM at any given time and it would not look suspicious when they check his records.

Did anyone confirm whether or not DS was a marine? Semper Fi right.

I just finished a JD Robb book where charecters exchanged murders of each others spouses. Now, I am speculating here, but what if DS exchanged an alibi for the faux Doug once upon a time?

WAVY.com has learned, Douglas Stewart was a decorated Marine, based at Camp Lejeune from 1999 to 2003.

Doesn't say how they learned it. I don't recall if any news articles have cited looking at military records firsthand.

lol that would fit right in to this crazy case.

ETA: nvm, beane posted lol.

The tidewater area is swarming with military, Navy in particular. He may well have some friends currently stationed there who served with him in NC (navy or marine).

TY Bean-it would be interesting to find out if anyone owed him a favor from those days.

That's one big favor....

Just to take your scenario a bit further... Are there any unsolved disappearances or murders involving military personnel or dependents from 99-03 in or near Camp Lejeune? (or even the Tidewater area, it's not that far away)

In regards to how many impostinators there are, this may (or may not) be relevant:

In this video, a reporter says that Doug says he has two witnesses who will say he was in Newport News. This video is replaying another video clip from Nancy Grace. The reporter speaking is female. I don't recognize her voice.

"He says that he has two witnesses that know he was there, that can verify that he was there in Newport News."
http://www.wvec.com/news/local/Sear...State-troopers-to-Hampton-Roads-93173239.html

In this NG transcript, John McNeill from WKZO radio says:

MCNEILL: Police have told us that he has -- his lawyer claims that he has two witnesses who will say he was in Newport News, Virginia where he has a home on that morning.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1005/03/ng.01.html

It looks like the two witnesses info may have come from Doug in conversation with NG producers. This is the closest I can track it to an original source:

ELLIE JOSTAD, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER, COVERING STORY: Yes. He does indeed say that he was in Newport News, Virginia. He says that he has two witnesses that know he was there. He hasn`t told us who those witnesses are, but he says he had two witnesses that have talked to police that can verify that he was there in Newport News.

GRACE: Did he agree to talk to any producers on our show, Ellie?

JOSTAD: Well, he`s spoken on the phone, yes. With our producers.

GRACE: Yes. But he wouldn`t tell who the alibi witnesses are.

JOSTAD: Right, he didn`t give those names.

GRACE: Would he give us a specific -- I was at a bar having a drink or I was at Denny`s having a grand slam at 7:00 in the morning, or I was at work?

JOSTAD: No. We do not have that specific information.

So... are the two witnesses the people (plural) at the reception desk at the attorney's office where the impostinator made the payment?

The employees behind the reception desk did not know for sure what Stewart looked like in person,

Bumping for Venus.

It's been a crazy day for a few cases here at WS...but we have not forgotten you Venus.

Hope you are found soon and justice is served.

To provide an alibi for DS for 8:00 pm on Monday. The same reason he said he was DS when he paid that bill earlier in the day on Monday.
I don't know why anybody would do that but LE is certain the imposter lied about being DS when he paid the bill.

Any other suggestions of why LE took the digital voice recorders?

Venus had a tape recording of Doug stating he could use his father's 357 magnum (powerful handgun) on her to solve the problem, a recording which her attorney's paralegal transcribed for her.

Because law enforcement was aware of this, they thought perhaps there were more recordings Venus made which she no longer had in her possession due to either Doug taking the device(s) away from her or them being his to begin with.

Either way, since Venus established she was using a recorder to document Doug's behavior, law enforcement wanted to get their hands on any further documentation.

That's just my guess, of course. Because the search warrant was prepared, served and executed prior to law enforcement concluding there was an imposter, it doesn't appear the reason was to determine if he had made recordings of his voice to be played in the event law enforcement called during his brief absence.

They were even nice enough to show us the soles of the shoes, but not the boots.

The shoes could have been purchased at a WalMart prior to the 26th and Doug, when cleaning out the truck of any evidence, in his state of panic, assumed he threw away the receipt for the hat, gloves, tarp and shovel when in fact the Walmart receipt he threw away was for the shoe purchase.

It is obvious Doug didn't want to alter the appearance of the interior of the truck so he left all the "trash" and "junk" in the cab for fear of it appearing to be deliberately cleaned out to remove evidence.

That could explain a lot. Who purchases a hat, shovel, gloves and tarp, drives 14 hours to murder their spouse then fails to get rid of the receipt? Someone who thought they did, clearly.

He could have bought the boots on the way home, too, and disposed of his other shoes--maybe they had obvious evidence (blood?) on them.

That's true too. I am still totally baffled as to why he would be so careless that he left the damning Walmart receipt for the gloves, tarp, hat and shovel in the truck. Clearly it was an accident.

Has there been any hint about Doug Stewart using cocaine or methamphetamine?

Yes, that was what I was trying to say earlier. I think there were 2 Wal-Mart receipts and he either thought he threw them both away at one time, or he thought he threw the "murder kit" one away and instead it was the boot/shoe one.

Puff, I agree. He may have bought that pair to replace the ones he was wearing.

Hard to try to think like DS IMO. He's either the stupidest murderer I've ever seen or a really smart one that has figured out how to plant "doubt" in the minds of people.

I vote for option #1. I have no doubt who did this.

Hmmmm. I dunno. That would mean he left the evidence shoes in the truck, then. They took them. Maybe he did.

Murder does strange things to one, no matter which side of it one is on.

I don't know about any prior drug use, but I think he's a controlling, egomaniac that could not let Venus "one up" him by fileing for and getting temp custody of the girls. I think he was full of rage and that fuelled this plan.

IMO there is no way he is not guilty of this. No way.

The reason I asked about methamphetamine or cocaine use is due to the fact a person amped up on it cannot think clearly and would most likely overlook the receipt.

To me, it is very clear DS went to great lengths to formulate and execute his plan and it is just baffling to me why he would be so careless as to allow the tarp cover to fall out near where Venus was abducted then leave the Walmart receipt in the truck.

Obviously, he was in a panic. However, one would think he would have gone over the contents of the truck cab with a fine toothed comb unless he was in an altered state and not thinking clearly.

And then we say: Anyone who commits murder is in an altered state of mind. I am suggesting maybe he was amped up on uppers and by the time he got back into town, after having stayed up all night and day, he was too exhausted to bother with cleaning out the truck and that all he could think about, and did, was to get to bed.
