"In recent days, Jasper said, his grandparents were getting calls from someone pretending to be Venus. He believes it was just another attempt by Doug Stewart to throw police off his trail."

My comment: If this is true, what female would participate in something like this. That is so cold.

That is just horrible.

I'm thinking of that voice recording equipment. I wonder if Doug was into voice altering software or equipment.

Wow, it takes a "special" person to pull that kind of stunt.......I can only hope that the female had no knowledge and maybe thought they were giving the family hope............who knows what she was told....IDK, I can't imagine:waitasec:

BBM

Jasper said Spencer is from Delaware and said Spencer met Doug Stewart through Xbox on-line gaming, but has no idea why Spencer decided to participate in the plot. He added he spent some time with his brother-in-law and Spencer, but at some point, Jasper said, Stewart lost his way.

WHAT? The brother of Venus is saying he spent time with our "Richard Spencer character" off from the Xbox Live? Are you kidding me? What's up with that?

No. The reporter just stumbled up his words a bit. Dustin spent time with Doug. He said Venus would have accepted Doug for who he was if he would have just been honest with her. And that she went to VA with Doug to protect the girls (from Doug).

Where is the correction in the article you are reading that the reporter just mixed up his words? I am not seeing anything different.

Amended - My notes from the Doug Stewart - Venus Stewart Press Conference
June 23, 2010

Speaker: John McDonough - St. Joseph County District Attorney

EDIT: (Replaced took with LURED): Mr. Stewart traveled from NPN to Michigan on Sunday the 25th of April, LURED Venus out of her home, killed her and disposed of her body. He then travelled immediately back to Newport News and met with Mr. Spencer.

The case was accelerated when the impostor (Mr. Richard Spencer of Delaware) was located and interviewed by Michigan State Police.

Mr. Spencer has been very cooperative and is a big reason why Doug Stewart was arrested.

Mr. Spencer did not come forward willingly.

Mr. Spencer was an acquaintance and was the person posing to be Doug Stewart the day of the abduction.

John McDonough is not sure how long they knew each other.

Richard Spencer and Doug Stewart conspired together since the beginning of April.

Locating Venus's body is priority number one.

Based on information received from numerous sources, including information from Mr. Spencer, Venus is deceased.

Mr. Spencer has not been charged.

One interview was conducted yesterday with Mr. Spencer by two Michigan State Police officers.

The clothing Mr. Spencer was wearing while posing as Mr. Stewart was then given back to Doug Stewart.

Mr. Spencer was not able to provide any information on where Venus might be.

Venus's parents are very sad and confused and will be met with in the next few weeks to discuss with them where the case is headed.

They are convinced Mr. Spencer does not know where Venus's body is.

Mr. Spencer did not receive any money, based on the information they have.

Offering Doug a "deal" for revealing the location of Venus's body will be discussed at a later date.

Mr. Spencer told the Michigan State Police why Doug kidnapped and murdered Venus but the speaker (district attorney) wouldn't share.

Forensic evidence is still at the lab and should be back this week or next week.

Mr. Spencer was "the icing on the cake". They were waiting on the latest information (from Mr. Spencer) to charge Mr. Stewart.

Doug Stewart is a cold blooded killer, in the speaker's opinion.

Mr. Stewart's civil charges of sexual abuse will continue and the petition will be amended to indicate Doug Stewart has been arrested.

"I wouldn't be here with a complaint without proof."

"We are reviewing everything we have on Mr. Spencer. We will let you know if we charge him."

"They had been planning this for a couple weeks before Venus disappeared."

"We felt the children were in danger, not only because of the prior sexual assault allegations by the daughter but what he had done in this case."

"The plan was to get Venus and kill her."

"We have a pretty good idea of what happened the day Venus was abducted. There appeared to be a struggle. We know just about as much as you know about the abduction. We weren't there."

"There is not a particular place where we expect her body to be found."

"It is difficult to prosecute without a body. I believe the investigation has given us enough to prove without reasonable doubt that he was the person."

"He is capable of about anything and we wanted to make sure he was taken into custody as soon as possible."

"The fact we involved numerous states could make it a federal case. The FBI has been involved but as far as I know it will stay here in St. Joseph County to be prosecuted."

"I don't know if the body is in St. Joseph County."

"Priority number one right now is searching for Venus's body. They (investigators) can now turn some focus to finding Venus's body."

"We don't believe anyone else (other than Doug Stewart and Mr. Richard Spencer) is involved."

"Michigan State Police traveled to Ohio to look into the Walmart receipt."

"The big break in the investigation was the day our detectives searched the truck and uncovered the evidence there."

"I rarely got bad news and it was a very well done investigation. They (various law enforcement agencies and investigators) certainly used every resource they had to get Mr. Stewart where he is today."

"The truck will be back in Michigan sometime next week."

"Doug's arrest had nothing to do with the blood evidence on the truck."

"We certainly appreciated the national news coverage though we were disappointed when the affidavit was released."

"Other means of the investigation are what lead to Mr. Spencer." (Note: The information released to the press about the impostor did not contribute to discovering who the impostor was.)

"No comment as to whether Mr. Spencer has been offered ammunity or a plea deal in exchange for his information."

"Mr. Spencer was an accomplice and has been very cooperative and is fully expected to be present at the preliminary examination."

"I fully expect him (Mr. Spencer) to face some charges but we have not charged him today."

"I have a very good idea what I'm going to charge him (Mr. Spencer) with>"

"Because of his (Mr. Spenser's) cooperation is why he hasn't been charged today."

"Extradition is not going to be an issue with Mr. Spencer."

"Mr. Spencer and Doug Stewart were acquaintances."

"I will not reveal today: (How Doug Stewart and Mr. Spencer became acquainted."

They (Doug Stewart and Richard Spencer) started devising their plan in early April and the plan was concluded on April 26, 2010."

Further questions can be directed towards Maxine, John McDonough's office manager and she will give him the message.

I'm sorry, but I think I am correct.

The reporter said "Jasper spent some time with Doug Stewart and the man who's now charged with his sister's murder." D-O-U-G.

Not 2 men, 1 man. Doug.

Minute mark on the 2-minute vid.

The reporter should have left out the word 'and'

Ok, I've listened to it again and you are correct. The text is incorrect in the online story.

Dang News 8, you should do a better job of editing your stories before you put them out there.

Geesh!!!

Sure would be nice if they could bring her body home for closure. I know this might sound stupid...but 90 some percent of all people that are abducted are found within a 2-3 mile radius of where they were last seen alive. (I think the number is more like 98% but I can't seem to find my source at the moment, so I was under stating)

mtrooper - let's hope with this arrest that info leading to where Venus is will be given.

Game over Doug.

Doug is so busted he might just reveal where Venus's body is if he's offered a reduced sentence rather than life in prison. It's too bad Michigan doesn't have the death penalty to intimidate him with.

Perhaps they will bring up how child molesters are treated in prison and offer him his own private cell if he confesses and takes them to her body.

He planned everything except what he was going to do after... I believe he already knew what he was going to do with Venus's body, hence the reason for the walmart murder kit. I don't think he would be so dumb... (I may be wrong... I don't know) to drive very far with Venus's body. I also BELIEVE that Venus was dead before he left the property.. which is why he needed the tarp. (and why a tarp wrapper blew was on the lawn...) I don't know how much blood they found, but I believe it's enough that it's transfer from Doug's person and not Venus. And I'm kind of queasy as I type this, but I think it may have involved either him choking her (during the struggle) and then possibly either stabbing or some other sort of cutting of Venus. (Either the stabbing to make "sure" she was gone, or the other cutting to possibly make it easier to dispose of her.) I do believe she's buried someplace, and I believe it may be close to where swamp man was seen.

of course this is all jmo and is pure speculation...

Could swamp man's job have been to scout out the terrain, to see just which areas a person could be in for some amount of time and not be spotted?

Doug planned what he was going to do after:

1.) Dispose of Venus
2.) Dispose of the tarp and shovel
3.) Immediately drive back to Newport News, Virginia
4.) Park the truck on the street
5.) Meet with Richard Spencer to get back his personal documents and clothes
6.) Claim that he was not in Michigan
7.) Move back to Michigan
8.) File for custody of his daughters

Doug failed to throw away the receipt for the tarp, hat, gloves and shovel as well as clean off the blood from the door, if in fact it was there because of the incident and not from a previous time.

The county prosecutor - district attorney stated today that nobody else is involved in this matter but Doug Stewart and Richard Spencer.

The swamp man was looking for his crack pipe!

I think that at least the tarp is with Venus, the shovel could be too, or it could have been disposed of along the way.

Could swamp man and Doug be the same guy? Or is there possibly a third person that RS didn't know about? You know... keeping your puzzle pieces separate?

ETA:: The only reason why I say this is because really most of their info is from RS right now... and if DS had a third accomplice in MI, then really... would RS know??

He would be stupid to admit to it by telling them where the body is. We have no death penalty. Right now his only shot is denying it, even though we all know he did it. But there is no chance for an appeal after he plea's to premeditated murder. There was another no-body murder case in Michigan from 1979. Diana Chorba went missing in May of 1979, and the murderer (clarance oliver bean) was convicted in 2001 after the testimony of his ex-wife (divorced in 2000, but were married at the time of the murder in 1979) stating she saw Diana's dead body in the ground when he cut a uprooted tree off at the base hiding her body). He has appealed 3 or 4 times so far, but all of them have been denied. There are only 8 "No Body" murder convictions in Michigan that I am aware of.

I know that there have been some public searches, and some searches with HRD dogs by LE, but does any one know what specific areas have been searched? I am thinking maybe drones with infared might be able to pick up the heat from decomp (at night would probably be best, or a cooler day).
