I can't imagine having to try to explain this to a child. How do you tell a 5 year old that her mommy is never coming back and it's all because of their father? HOW DO YOU DO THIS TO YOUR BABIES?????

I don't know what angers me more... what Doug did to Venus... or what he's done to his children.

Remember the comment I posted from LE? Criminals rarely if ever think about after the crime? This is classic here-what was so bad that he had to solve it with a cross country drive to murder the woman who was trying to get out of his life? Couldnt handle it in the courts-he had to settle it with his own hands regardless of the collateral damage.

I hope Venus's parents are doing better... They now have 2 children to care for. I could barely sleep last night thinking about her poor mother in the hospital...

I can only imagine the pain and agony this poor family is dealing with in the first few days after the the initial shock of something like this. It's one thing to have your suspicions, because there's always that shred of hope that your suspicions are wrong and that maybe she will come back... But to get confirmation that your daughter is never going to return and it's because the man she feared the most killed her, I just can't imagine how that would feel.

I'm praying for Venus's family today, praying that they have the strength to be strong for her babies. Praying that they find the answers they need, even though they are certainly not the ones they want. And praying that her babies will come through this unscathed.

I'm so mad at Doug Stewart for doing this to his children! How could he?!? How could he do this to his babies? How could he take away their mommy??

Isn't it something how 'one' vengeful, hateful, controlling man can cause so much damage. Venus' father knew all along who took his daughter and I bet mom did to. Those poor people, trying to deal with the loss of their daughter, and now to take care of their grandchildren.

A million  to mom who has to somehow heal. Simply tragic! And to the babies: a million :blowkiss:

Police convinced Venus Stewart is dead: Cooperation by alleged accomplice Richard Spencer key to murder charge
Published: Thursday, June 24, 2010, 8:01 AM

SNIPPED....................................................................

McDonough said Wednesday, however, that police now allege Douglas Stewart was able to lure his estranged wife from the Driftwood Drive residence, after which he abducted her, killed her and disposed of her body.

Investigators allege that Douglas Stewart traveled from Newport News, Va., where he resided, on April 25 and stopped at a Walmart in Ohio to purchase a tarp, gloves, shovel and hat that were listed on a receipt found in his pickup truck. Police have information that after the alleged abduction and murder, Stewart traveled back to Virginia, where he met with Spencer, exchanged clothes that Spencer had worn to impersonate him and the two men went their “separate ways.”

With Douglas Stewart now charged and jailed, McDonough said “priority one” is to locate Venus Stewart’s body. He said police “have ideas” about where her body may be located and how she died, but declined to elaborate.

The prosecutor also acknowledged that a possible plea deal for Douglas Stewart in exchange for information on the whereabouts of his estranged wife’s body is “something to be discussed at a later date.”

Thanks for posting this.

Looking at this picture makes my blood boil!!!!!
That smug look on the face of a cold blooded murderer!

At least his plan of a cover up did not work. He will have to pay for what he did.

But, that does not bring back the mother of 2 beautiful girls. It does not bring back her parents' beautiful daughter.

This case is so sad.

IMO he is a monster. He has ruined so many lives by his actions.

I agree with y'all that R. Spencer should do time. I know he is helping, but IMO he could have stopped this with one call to LE.
I hope he lives with that guilt the rest of his life. I hope he thinks about those girls everyday and has to think about his participation in taking their mother.

Amended - My notes from the Doug Stewart - Venus Stewart Press Conference
June 23, 2010

Speaker: John McDonough - St. Joseph County District Attorney

EDIT: (Replaced took with LURED): Mr. Stewart traveled from NPN to Michigan on Sunday the 25th of April, LURED Venus out of her home, killed her and disposed of her body. He then travelled immediately back to Newport News and met with Mr. Spencer.

Apparently investigators learned from Richard Spencer part of Doug Stewart's plan was to lure Venus out of the house.

I always felt it was odd that Venus would walk out to the mailbox in her pajamas to mail a letter at that early hour.

I had a feeling Doug Stewart contacted Venus through a text message, phone call or e-mail AFTER Venus's mother left for work to tell her he felt bad about her not having any transportation and had driven all night to bring her truck to Michigan, that he had money for her and the children, that he'd parked in the field nearby and wanted to give her the keys and money and that someone had followed him in another vehicle who would either drive him back to Virginia or to the airport.

Then again, Doug would have been violating the restraining order so he could have enlisted someone else to contact Venus.

He or someone could have simply called after Venus's mother left for work and said, "Doug drove your truck up here for you and it's parked in the field across from your house with the keys in it."

When an excited and curious Venus goes out to check, Doug snatches her.

does anyone know if there's some way I can get a card to Venus' parents?

I often think about how I wish I could reach out to the people who are left to deal with the aftermath of such horrors but never have

this case is really pushing me to do it ... I just feel so bad for Larry & Therese, especially in light of the fact that their health appears to be in jeopardy and they have those two precious babies to raise now

I just want them to feel an abundance of support in this terrible time of their lives

I suppose I can go digging into the early threads where I know there were pictures of their house etc. (not sure about address?) but if anyone has a handy link, I'd appreciate it

I dont know that LE is stating that Spencer provided the info about luring Venus-Police had a pretty specific timeline regarding the window into her abduction, so I like to think they have a text message or voicemail, or cell phone call to support it. JMO.

That is so sweet-I would send it to the Prosecutors office personally or to their listed address. I am sure their mail is being held and delivered to them wherever they are in hiding.

[bbm]

yep, remember the early days when everyone was questioning that? it didn't make sense to anyone I don't think

just goes to show we should always follow our gut instincts

I wonder ... didn't one of the reports quote Venus' brother as saying he knows Spencer - isn't it then probable Venus knew him too & wouldn't have been alarmed had Spencer called her to say he was around the corner with her truck, not knowing Doug was actually hiding outside? just speculating here ...

what if he was the one to contact her though? maybe Doug had Spencer help lure her outside ...

yeah I thought of that ... sure don't blame them if they don't want to receive mail right now

would it be an imposition to send it to the prosecutor though? do you think he would really want to be receiving their mail?

I wouldnt over think it...it might be nice to bring them something that does not suck the wind out of them... :(.

You did give me an idea though-wonder if Venus' girls could use some toys, teddy's, coloring books?

I will call the prosecutors office and see what they think-would that work for you??

well, that's a fantastic idea! - I'm in Canada so I can't physically bring them anything but would love to contribute somehow, especially for the girls

Thank you so much! I'm on it today!

I just had a thought that I wonder if they'll want to stay there if they find out their daughter was murdered on that property ... have no idea how that would feel.

The day Doug was arrested, it was reported there were several Michigan State Police cars at Venus's parent's home. So, they are apparently living there.

I think they believed all along Doug murdered Venus and that the scuffle marks in the gravel were from a struggle between Doug and Venus.

Even if they go stay somewhere else, I'm sure any mail sent to that address would be received either by someone collecting the mail at the box, it being held at the post office or being forwarded to a new address.

Absolutely, the certainty of it removes all hope. It will be another huge blow when they actually find her body.

McDonough said Wednesday, however, that police now allege Douglas Stewart was able to lure his estranged wife from the Driftwood Drive residence, after which he abducted her, killed her and disposed of her body.

I think THIS is probably what is bothering her parents the most. The fact that she was LURED out. That she didn't just go out and happen to get grabbed. That if someone else had been awake when she got the message or whatever, it might have been stopped. If her Dad had been awake and said, "Oh really, well I'll walk out with you." Then, it may not have happened.

what if he was the one to contact her though? maybe Doug had Spencer help lure her outside ...

I think they likely switched phones too. Doug probably left his phone with Spencer in Virginia, so it would be pinging there. Doug would have had Spencer's phone... he could have sent a text to Venus, "from" Spencer if he had his phone.

Though... I know I am more paranoid than most. I still wouldn't have gone outside. I would have said, "Thanks so much, I am really busy right now but I will go out and move it later." I also can't leave my children alone in the house to go out to the mailbox, so it wouldn't have been an issue for me. If I felt the need to go look to see if it was really there, that would mean I didn't fully trust the person... which would mean I wouldn't want to go outside.

So it STILL seems odd to me that she was comfortable going outside that early in the morning to begin with. :waitasec:

It was barely daylight when Venus went outside. I do not believe for one minute that Doug would have waited in broad daylight until Venus just happened to go outside. He could have not anticipated she would walk out to the mailbox or far enough away from the house where he could grab her without being detected unless Venus was not allowed to smoke in the house and he knew she'd be going outside for a smoke.

In my opinion, the plan for Venus to be lured outside was put into play the moment Doug saw Venus's mother drive off to work.

I also believe Doug knew Venus's father's sleep schedule and banked on the fact that he would be asleep.

The only perfect time to abduct Venus would be the time Doug chose simply because Venus's mother had left for work, Venus's father was asleep, it was very early and he hoped nobody would be up and about to see him.

Had Venus been contacted when one or both of her parents were home and awake, whether it was night or day, Doug believed he could not have lured Venus outside unless she did not tell her parent(s) about the e-mail, message or IM she had received because they would probably would have gone outside to see if whatever Doug used to lure Venus outside was a legitimate claim or simply have called 911.

Doug didn't want Venus consulting another adult or to risk one of them going outside with her.

And, he knew his children were in that house.

To me, that makes his actions even more sick!

  • #340
How did he think his girls would feel when they mom just vanished???

My answer: He just didn't care. He wanted her dead at all costs. He did not even consider his children.
I hope he rots.
