RS mentioned DS estimating he would be awake for 32 hours.

Which makes me wonder if he took some crank or cocaine to stay awake.

You mean RS as in Ricky Spencer. So, Doug waited to call until after he saw Venus leave then plugs his nose and disguises his voice while saying something like, "Hello? This is your mailman Ron and I've got a package I need you to sign for. I'm out at the mail box."

Thats what it sounded like. The two seemed to be making all kinds of calls. RS would call someplace while DS listened in on the track phone. It sounded like RS had two phones going, one in each ear.

After RS mentioned DS having 17 confirmed kills, hand to hand combat action, was shot. He also stated DS had his masters in psychology. I was waiting to hear he could grow wings and fly.

RS mentioned DS telling him. I'm just like a ninja infiltrating an area.

FS said DS called him from a track phone from around Venuses parents house at seven in the morning and needed the phone number for Venus parents. It sounded like DS actually told FS his plan.

You mean RS as in Ricky Spencer. So, Doug waited to call until after he saw Venus's mother leave for work then plugs his nose and disguises his voice while saying something like, "Hello? This is your mailman Ron and I've got a package I need you to sign for. I'm out at the mail box."

Wow! I wonder if Ricky and Doug were both using disposable cell phones!

I remember they said the truck was black. Not sure about four-wheel drive. However, FS mentioned DS calling between 8 or 10 in the mourning and saying he needed to dig another hole or something because someone was to close to the pre-dug hole. So, in my mind, Venus is within two hours or so of her parents home.

I thought the truck was grey, at least the truck that was supposedly seen near the scene was (another reason for the reluctance of LE to get the truck to MI for tire analysis perhaps?).

If he had to dig another hole that means there is an unfilled hole somewhere out there. If he was going to hide a body it would be somewhere he was very familiar with, that should narrow it down a bit. It would likely be considerably less than 2 hours distance btw, since presumably he would have sat around a bit waiting for whoever it was to go away.

One more thing, could you expand on this call he is supposed to have made to lure her out.....surely she would have recognized his voice, or at least been suspicious of someone calling her to come out at that hour instead of just knocking on the door? That is the another thing that lacks credibility to me.

This stuff Spencer is saying is so bizarre, did you get the feeling that you had stepped into an episode of the twighlight zone at the hearing?

Okay, wait a minute.... I am confused.

So, they find Ricky Spencer and he has obviously talked to Doug after the crime... because he told Ricky HOW he got Venus out of the house.

So WHY didn't they stick a wire on him and have him call Doug. Say "dude, did you see the media? They know about me? What am I supposed to do?" Maybe ask him for money to leave town... Ask him if he is sure he hid her where she won't be found.... see if he could get him to tell him where he left Venus. Give him a week or so to be paranoid and bother Doug. See if he tells him where she is, OR goes back to check on where he left her.

What would it have hurt? They still would have had all the same evidence they have now...but they might have had even more. They were in different states so they could have kept an eye on Doug to ensure he didn't head back to hurt Ricky.

I think they missed an opportunity there....

The truck vs the car....

A) Do we know for sure that the truck did NOT have a cover on the bed? I don't think I've seen a picture of her actual truck.... My truck (identical to Venus' except white instead of silver/gray) does and I'd much prefer to transport anything (including a body) in it than a car. Much less transfer of forensic evidence on metal than seat cushions.

B) Even if it did not have a cover, the cab of that truck is HUGE. There would be plenty of room for a body or two in the backseat, it was in a tarp so evidence transfer would have been minimal anyway. I probably would have taken the truck for reliability reasons (mileage and age of vehicles) as well as the versatility of 4x4. It would really suck to break down with a body in your trunk....

I've been wondering why Doug chose to drive Venus's truck to Michigan rather than the car.

I realize Doug usually drove the car and wanted people to think Ricky Spencer was him driving the car around.

But, wouldn't it have made sense to take the car so he could have quickly put Venus in the trunk?

Did he specifically take the truck because he needed 4-wheel drive where he was going to bury Venus?

Did the truck have 4-wheel drive?

Wouldn't a person with a dead body feel more comfortable transporting it in a trunk rather than in the cab or open bed of a truck?

Wouldn't it have been easier to get Venus into the trunk rather than the cab or bed of the truck?

WHY DO YOU THINK DOUG CHOSE THE TRUCK TO USE RATHER THAN THE CAR?

Goodness. Seems all of Doug's defenders have signed off for the evening.

Please link to anyone defending DS on this thread. Thanks!

Well, that would explain why they haven't had earth moving equipment out in Fulton at Stewart's father's house, because what people would be out there that he'd have to worry about?

Good Morning
I have a few questions that I was wondering if anyone could shed light on that heard the entire hearing yesterday

RS states that DS tried this plan the week before he actually did it, but called it off because he had gotten pulled over.

1) did he dig a hole the week before (so April 18 /19), and if so , did that sit uncovered for an entire week or did he go back and cover it up and then head back to NN on 4/19 ?

2) If we was in Michigan the week before (APril 18/19) to pull this off, why did he have to stop at Walmart on 4/25 to buy his little kit ? what happened to the stuff from before ? maybe he tossed it the week before ?

3) dig he dig 2 or 3 holes ? 2 near the timeframe she actually disappeared, and did he dig one the week before ?

Not sure if anyone has these answers or their own thoughts about it -

Thanks !

blackdog, thanks for the reporting. I agree with Natal that this is surreal.

Thousands of hours? If you spoke to someone 2 hours a day it would take 17 months to speak to them for a thousand hours. Thousands of hours since 2008 would require them to talk for well in excess of 2 hours EVERY day.

That cannot possibly be true.

Someone probably answered this already, but the part of the testimony I heard online yesterday RS stated he spoke to DS 6-10 hours a day.

Now, this alone is bizarre and suspect of course. This would qualify as obsession on some level as far as I am concerned.

I don't know if you have every played on line games with voice capabilities, but most of the time you are playing you are not chatting about anything other than giving commands or information about what is going on in the game. That isn't conversation.

I'm curious. Did they say if Spencer knew or had ever met Venus?

I *know* for a fact know that there are many many games that you have a constant ability to chat with one another. Mainly First Person Shooters such as Modern Warfare 2, Socom, HALO.... you need this constant ability to chat in these games because you are calling out enemy positions and what not.... There is PLENTY of time to chit chat during a game and in between rounds. Especially with a 6-10 hour a day gaming addiction.

ITA I have a nephew that is 18 and he lives on his xbox live.
He has several friends he talks to on there.

I don't find it odd that 2 friends could play and chat several hours a day.

It will be interesting to learn if Doug Stewart did get the traffic ticket Ricky Spencer spoke of and exactly where he got it.

The traffic stop and ticket may have occurred before Doug stopped to buy the shovel and tarp.

Unless they find the body and can place DS at the scene I bet that the defence is going to argue that Spencer is a misguided fool who is the real perp, and that DS is just another one of his victims.

Spencer's alibi is that he was playing DS, but if DS disputes that then this whole thing could get pretty messy very quickly.

BBM....LE will be able to verify that he was playing by looking up the screen names he uses to play and I believe there is a log that shows game time play ....

My son who is 14, when he stays over at his friends house, and this is no exaggeration, will spend at least 10 hours on Xbox live and yes talking to his friends ... it is annoying  Lol....

Holy mother of God. I'm sitting here with my mouth just hanging open.

Blackdog, you are a gem. Thank you so very much for taking the time to share all this info with us. I really appreciate it.

I'm just flabbergasted.

ETA: And we're finding out just why the DA said Doug was just a cold blooded killer.

Alleged accomplice lays out murder plot:
"It's done," witness says Douglas Stewart told of his wife's killing

Spencer testified that early on April 26, Stewart called and asked him to retrieve Venus Stewart’s cell phone number from his own cell phone. He said that later, Stewart told him he had called the McComb residence and pretended to be the mailman with a package for his wife.

Stewart said he confronted Venus Stewart after she walked out of her parents’ house and that she “screamed one time and tried to fight” before he put her in a headlock and abducted her, Spencer testified.

Spencer said Stewart called again a few minutes later and told him he had to pick a new place to bury his wife because “there were people around” the spot he had picked out.

In the following days, Spencer said he and Stewart communicated only through Xbox Live because Stewart feared his phone conversations were being recorded.

“I asked him before, ‘Was it all worth it?,” Spencer testified. “He said to protect his kids and give them a future, it was.”
