DETROIT -
The snow is spreading over the area and it will get heavier at times through the afternoon.

It’s cold and windy for the rest of the day and the snow will be blowing around the roads making for a very rough evening commute...

Our instructor let us go early tonight because of the weather. Between the time I left for school this morning at 8:15 am and when I got home at about 8:15 pm the roads got pretty bad and there are about 5 inches of new snow in my driveway :sigh: And the sun never even made an appearance today. Really missing the long, warm, fabulous nights of summer.

Metro Detroit on pace to have snowiest January on record

Tom Greenwood /The Detroit News

Metro Detroit is on track to break the record for the snowiest January on record set at 29 inches back in 1978.

The 3 ½ inches of snow that fell Thursday night and early Friday morning brings the total to 26 inches for this January, and more snow is on the way.

Elliott said Metro Airport recorded the 3 ½inches whereas White Lake Township received 4 inches as did Flint.

“We have snow showers developing on Saturday and Sunday, which might bring in another half-inch to an inch,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Deb Elliott...

And it will be getting very cold again this week. Sub-zero or near zero starting Tuesday night, I believe. brrrrrr --- I was spoiled by the last two relatively mild winters here.

DH and I spent this past weekend packing for our cruise next Sunday (1/26). We fly to Fort Lauderdale on Saturday and embark the Royal Princess on Sunday for a 7-night Caribbean cruise that includes my (1/27) birthday. Internet access on the ship is usually hit-or-miss, but I will be here when I can get on the site ;)

For all of my Websleuths friends:

I will never understand why my ancestors settled here or why I continue to stay here.

Note to self: must move south.

Actual temp is 16 degrees F now, but feels much colder, and it is snowing again. Will have to shovel again tomorrow, pooh!

Enjoy a nice warm cruise, BDE! Sounds like the perfect time for a getaway.

ATM it is -20* real temp and -35* wind chill. There is a giant outside with a big baseball bat who hits the house every so often~!!! :scared:
It's been this cold before this winter but the first time the house has 'cracked' like that ~ wakes you right up from a sound sleep. :banghead::floorlaugh:

We got about an inch and a half of new snow overnight, and it is going to be frickin' cold throughout the day. I have a hair appointment and will get my allergy injection, but I don't plan to be out in the cold for very long. Dangerous wind chills expected tonight.

First wind, then snow, then cold in Metro Detroit

Stretch of severe winter weather on the way

DETROIT -
Skies will become mostly clear Thursday night and your Friday will start with actual temperatures near zero and wind chills between -15 and -25.

Consequently, the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory until 4 p.m. Friday.

Take your shades on the way to work, but you probably won't need them on the way home as clouds will increase during the day. Wind will also increase and by afternoon we'll see southwest winds easily reaching 20 to 30 miles per hour. Highs in the low teens, but wind chills will be sub-zero all day...

Many schools/districts closed today due to dangerous wind chills. More snow expected overnight and into tomorrow. Hope it doesn't delay travel plans as I am more than ready to escape winter.

I understand this is about midwest weather but thought you might like to know that the cold has reached Austin, TX. Between Thurs and Fri we received 1/4 inch of snow, closing schools, business, and cancelling flights. While this seems funny, the white stuff was like stinging ice, coating the roads. Between Thurs and Fri there were around 150 accidents - mostly minor. The problem was icy roads. The temp dropped to below freezing, too. We had to keep our faucet dripping to keep the pipes from freezing.

Slid to my night shift job- it's snowed most of the night with the wind howling. Gonna slide home I suppose.

REALLY thankful it's Saturday. I work in Indianapolis and there will be fewer cars on the road than a weekday. Two of my four kids have to work in the city today.

Did I mention it's currently warmer in Dutch Harbor, Alaska than here right now? 'Cause i is!

No idea how much actual snowfall we got, but my side of the shared driveway is drifted past my knees and my neighbor's side has maybe 3 inches. I definitely bought the wrong house. This happens every time we get a blizzard. All of the steps to all 3 porches disappeared under snow, and my deck is almost 4 feet high. Is anyone else getting pretty tired of the color white?

Our poor mail carriers. It's been such a bitter cold, snowy winter.

I feel so bad for the mail carriers also, along with anyone else that has to work outside. I know they make heated gear that people can buy, but I don't know much about how it works.

It seems like we have gotten snow everyday and the drifting. Below zero temps again. At least this time I will know to keep my faucets dripping.

My car won't start and I've been stuck for a while. It's to cold to walk anywhere.

You know it's bad when your car breaks down and you're relieved that you don't have to drive or somehow get up your driveway.

I CAN'T TAKE ANY MORE OF THIS COLD WEATHER!!! LOL

I could tough it out since I am a born Michigander (and very proud of said fact), but this is just too cold. Added to that, it is COSTING ME TOO MUCH $$$ in propane (I live in the country) Actually, feel like I live in the Tundra the last week lol :)

36 degrees predicted for Friday. I'll take it!!!

Woot!!! 36 degrees is a heat wave~~~ :loveyou:

My electric bill at work went up $200 this month due to increases!!
I need another oil delivery at home for another $350. :tantrum:

Damn, hoping for a mild February. :please:

eta: 60-65 degrees at home is the new "normal".

Will be bitterly cold with high snow accumulations this coming week.

I'm sick of winter. My electric bill is terrible.

The only good things are I'm done with my seasonal job and don't have to drive in the mess and it will kill some of the 'garden eating insects' next summer.

I know February is the shortest month but it seems the longest month for cold miserable weather.

Hunkering in.....gone to the store...by the way did I mention I HATE WINTER!

I couldn't agree more with everything you wrote, Show Me! :crying:

This is me after this winter here so far:

Grumpy cat times ten for me! Forecasting 8 to 10 inches of snow or more before all is said and done.

I know it's nothing compared to what people in other states have gotten, but any snow beyond a few inches on Christmas day is too much for me. If I didn't have all my family here I'd move to the panhandle of Florida.

Snow alert: Three winter storms set to pound Northeast, Midwest

By Henry Austin, NBC News contributor

It looks like the rodent was right.

Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter, and just a day after temperatures soared into the 50s on Groundhog Day, forecasters warned that a series of storms would pound much of the country over the next week...

...“They’ll have a break Tuesday and then the next storm will bear down on them Wednesday morning,” Walton said. He said that the second storm is set to streak across the country, dumping heavy snow on Chicago, Detroit, Kansas City and St Louis en route...

...Nebraska, Kansas, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan could also all get 6 or more inches of snow between Tuesday and Wednesday, The Weather Channel predicted, and Walton said the Mississippi Valley could also see some of the white stuff...

http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/201...-winter-storms-set-to-pound-northeast-midwest

Last week, I got a respite from winter and had to pinch myself a couple of times when I told DH that it was too hot  We returned home from our cruise to several more inches of new snow and are set to get another round of the white stuff tomorrow :snowflake:
