The winds are rattling the windows in my downtown skyscraper in Ohio. I can only imagine what it's like on the upper floors - I'm so happy to be on the third!

Up to 6 inches of snow on way as Michigan’s temps cool

Tom Greenwood, The Detroit News 9:45 a.m. EST November 19, 2015

Over the next three days, the metro area is going to slowly descend from sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures into a rainy/snowy weekend.

“Things are going to be turning cooler starting Thursday night into Friday,” meteorologist Sara Schultz said. “Thursday will be pretty nice with highs in the lower 50s, but temperatures will begin to drop at night. On Thursday, we can also expect a little wind with gusts as high as the lower 30s.”

Friday is expected to be dry with a high temperature in the low 40s while the nighttime low will be around 30 degrees.

“We have the potential for snow starting Friday night into Saturday,” Schultz said. “We have a chance of one or two inches in the metro area, but it will most likely be rain mixed with snow.” ...

It's really coming down in Oakland County. The :snowflake: is pretty, but roads are slick, visibility poor. If you're in the storm's path, don't go out unless it's absolutely necessary. Stay safe and warm.

Reaching record highs, severe storm chances

Highs near 60

DETROIT - A crazy very Spring Like day ahead around Metro Detroit. We will have record warmth and a slight chance for a few severe storms in the area tonight. Watch out for patchy dense fog this morning as you head out.

The record for December 23rd is 56° and most of us around SE Lower Michigan will see highs in the low 60s. A warm front is swinging through and it will start to destabilize the skies. Expect a few scattered rain and/or thundershowers throughout the day . Mostly cloudy skies most of the day and a chance for more widespread, heavy rain and thunder will pull in here into the evening. We may see a few strong to severe storms especially down near the Ohio and Indiana borders...

Winter weather advisory: Details on freezing rain here

Winter Storm Warning for Sanilac County

DETROIT - The good news is that we’ll have a dry morning commute back to work. The bad news is that the drive home is likely to be very sloppy.

Mother Nature will be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at us today, so here’s how I see things shaping up, and remember that everything I am telling you here is progressing across our area from south to north: those of you in the south get it first, and those of you in the north get it last.

Sleet, possibly starting as a short period of snow, will cross the state line later this morning…probably between 10:00 AM and Noon and rapidly spread north.

Remember that sleet are those little ice balls that make noise when they hit your windshield or windows at home…and if the sleet starts coming down hard, this by itself can slicken up the roads...

Winter storm still on track

Forecast remains extremely complicated

By Paul Gross - 4caster

DETROIT - The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties until 11 a.m. Thursday.

I'll be very honest about this: the weather scenario that will play out tomorrow is so complicated that it's even hard to write about. This is not only because there are still some very important differences among the computer models (which means significant ramifications on what type of weather we get, and how much), but also because of the changes in precipitation type that will occur. I'll do my best to explain this to help you plan, but keep in mind that there still could be some changes...

I'll be watching the storm chasers on TVN with my fingers crossed this evening - hopefully they won't be reporting anything bad

Here in Central IL the forecast was dead on so far. The winter storm warning began at 6 this morning and the snow started as if on command. Going to be a slippery ride to work and will need to spend some time digging out of the mess when I leave work tonight. Such is life in the midwest.

It's snowing :snowflake:... not even an inch yet. Hope it stays that. I don't do well with shovels.:moo:

Local Channel 4 (WDIV) has now issued a SEVERE WEATHER ALERT for Oakland (where I live) and Macomb Counties in southeastern lower Michigan. Snow continues to fall rapidly with up to 10" expected before the system ends tomorrow. Schools are closing early, canceling afterschool activities, etc., and I'm sure many schools will likely be closed tomorrow.

Storm warning in effect as wintry mix hits Detroit area

Holly Fournier, Mark Hicks and Candice Williams, The Detroit News 1:26 p.m. EST February 24, 2016

Winter-weather lovers — and haters — are watching out, suiting up and hunkering down for southeast Michigan’s first major snow of the year.

Rain, sleet and snow already has hit Detroit and areas to the north Wednesday, said meteorologist Dan Thompson with the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.

“It’s going to be a little more of a mix the closer you get to the Detroit River, and it may even turn to rain this afternoon,” Thompson said of Detroit’s forecast. “The precipitation is going to be more snow the further north and west you get.”

Detroit’s wintry mix should switch to snow overnight Wednesday, Thompson said...

BDE, how much snow do you have so far? We are on the edge and have been getting slushy rain for the last few hours. The two inches of snow is now heavy slush here.

Two to three inches, but it's snowing at an angle from the north, so it's difficult to say for sure. It's been snowing steadily since 8:30 this morning. I hope DH can leave the office early because his drive home is going to be messy and very slow.
