:tyou: Treelights for the shout-out. We spent last night at a local Courtyard after a nice dinner at a favorite restaurant. This hotel is completely booked, so we might have to relocate if the power is not back on at home. DH has gone to check on that. DTE's latest estimate for service restoration in our sub is Friday night  We hope that's not the case. This is frustrating :banghead:

only4J, omgosh you must be so busy right now working for dte!!!!!!

bette, I cannot believe your power is still out :-( Believe it or not ours came back on right after I bought ten gallons of gas for the gen. hahahaha. I hope your power comes back on soon.

our power actually went off again in the middle of the night because when I woke up everything was blinking... it had to have been off a while too because the inside of the fridge was warm...

Power still out at home. We made a reservation at another Marriott and can check in at 10:30. I'll hang there today while DH goes to the office for a few hours. I'll have the laptop and can watch SVU marathon.

Stopped at home for a few things, went out for breakfast, and are now settled at Fairfield Inn (free stay). DTE still predicts restoration for our neighborhood on Friday. We hope it's not that long

I hope you don't lose all your food in your fridge bette! Did you put it outside in coolers?

  • #292
^ It was too cold in the house to do much more than gather a few things for another night in a hotel. Fridge/freezer still seem cold, so maybe we won't lose everything. A neighbor will call if/when power is restored, and DH will probably do a drive-by on his way home from the office.

When my mom was living, we were able to crash at her condo during power outages. She didn't have cable or internet, but it was fine for DH and I and our beloved Jack Russell. I usually found a cleaning project to pass the time. No more nearby relatives who can put us up for a night or two :(

:tyou: to everyone who has expressed concern for my welfare. Websleuths is the best!

about an hour north.e lost power since last eve.still dark so can't see damage. No school today

Glad you are safe. We lost power ( from the wind ) Sunday night about 9:10 pm. I whined all day yesterday. We went to dinner and charged cell phones, came back about 6:30 and power was on. I decided for Christmas I'm buying my landlady a battery operated radio, none of her's would work yesterday even with new batteries.

My sister bought me a wind up radio for emergencies. It's quite a wonderful gadget. It has a built in LED light and cell phone jack.

Power was still out last evening when DH drove past our sub on his way to the hotel after work. He didn't stop but planned to get up early this morning to go to the house to retrieve mail, put trash/compost out for collection, and grab a change of clothes. Power was back on, so he rushed back to the hotel to get me :D

Generator purchase on the agenda for this weekend so that we don't have to endure this inconvenience in the future. We have a gas fireplace and hot water heater, so we could manage for several days without the furnace as long as we had some power for fridge, a few lights, maybe TV, but I do alright with reading, listening to the radio or CDs, and laptop as long as it's charged.

I canceled my cleaning crew yesterday when I thought that we wouldn't have power and hope that they can still fit me into the schedule for today since it's my regular cleaning day. Food in fridge/freezer is fine, and house temperature was nearly back to normal when DH got here at 5:30AM.

Many thanks to all of you for your concern and kind thoughts. Thanks, also, to the out-of-state crews that have assisted DTE during this crisis. There are apparently still some outages in Oakland County, but recovery has been faster than expected. :tyou:

DTE: 6,000 still without power in metro Detroit

DTE Energy expects power to be restored by Friday evening

DETROIT -
DTE Energy says it has restored power to all but 6,000 homes and businesses impacted by severe storms that blew across southeast Michigan on Sunday.

By Thursday at midnight, DTE said it anticipated that number to drop to 3,000, and all of its remaining customers should have power restored by Friday evening...

Thanksgiving travelers mostly spared of snow in Michigan

Tom Greenwood and Serena Maria Daniels /The Detroit News

Mother Nature has thrown a huge slush ball at the United States, but somehow she mostly missed Michigan.

While much of the country is reeling and dealing with winter-type storms, the Mitten will largely be dry and chilly Wednesday, Thanksgiving Day and on Friday. The weather is expected to have little impact here on the 1.3 million Michiganians traveling for turkey dinners on Thursday.

“For the most part, it will be dry and colder than normal in lower Michigan, except for areas lying near Lake Huron, which may see one to three inches of lake effect snow,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Thompson. “We’re not expecting any snow in the metro area on Wednesday, but there may be a little light snow moving in on Thanksgiving. Shouldn’t be anything heavy, maybe just enough to whiten up the ground.” ...
