I missed that Scandi... I need to tune in and catch up. Do you know when the next hospital presser will be? TIA

No, I haven't heard anything about an update lately.

The frontal part of the brain controld social skills I think. A lot of violent criminals have been proven to have small frontal lobes. That sounds so general doesn't it. LOL And the back lower part has to do with physical movement I think.

We know so little about the brain, except the standards. As it dies it liquifies, and I know this happens to people with dimensia.

Buzz, it was mentioned that he was given oxygen right away, while down in the mine and on his way to the hospital. Do you think that O2 included some CO2? I wonder if this Dr knows about how effective this is, and that pure O2 further deprives the brain of ozygen as it constricts the blood vessels?

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The lone survivor of a coal mine explosion that killed 12 others has been moved to a hospital in Pittsburgh to undergo oxygen treatment, West Virginia University hospital officials said Thursday.

New First-Aid Method Could Prevent Brain Damage After Carbon Monoxide Exposure

very interesting. It sounds as if the standard care actually could have made him worse.

I am wondering why no hyperbaric chamber too??

There was just a blip of a news conference (it said "LIVE") at the beginning of John Gibson's "Big Story on Fox with Dr. Roberts of WVU and I guess they are considering transferring Randy to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. Then Gibson said something about Randy's condition not being stable enough for transport.

Did anyone else catch this? At first it sounded as though he was being transported and then they cut away from the news conference and sounded as if he is not in good enough condition.

Yes, I caught that and couldn't figure out if he's been transferred or is in transport or what. Then the link I posted said he's been transferred....I don't know. Did you also catch that it was said (not by the Dr. unless I missed it since the conference was in progress when they started to show it) that he is now in grave condition? I wasn't sure if that was just something assumed by the media considering his condition.

That doesn't sound good---Pittsburgh is only 130 miles away--by helicopter, less than an hour. If he isn't stable enough for that distance, it isn't a good sign.

It was a very confusing report, imo. I was left scratching my head, wondering what I just heard. I don't recall hearing the word 'grave' used, but felt that Gibson was implying that Randy was doing very poorly, as in worse than earlier reports.

I'm left thinking that maybe Gibson was ill prepared for the report. Maybe it's just me.

From the link you provided, (thank you!) it appears that Randy has already been transported, which is what I felt Dr. Roberts was saying.

I know with brain injuries altitude is sometimes an issue. I honestly don't think he's gonna make it :(

Hopefully that was some more misinformation. At this point, I am going to totally disregard what John Gibson said. I'm chalking it up to him being ill-prepared for the report, which is sad (if it is the case), considering other misinformation we've been fed with regards to this tragic mining story.

Eta above "(if it is the case)"
Also, maybe when John Gibson was preparing for his show, transporting Randy was not a definitive?

Thanks Sassygyrl,
I wondered why HBOT wasn't initiated earlier but obviously he wasn't stable enough for transfer...

Primetime Live tonight on ABC at 10 Eastern is taking a closer look at mining and this tragedy. Just a heads up!

Prayers for Randy and his family that he shows significant signs of improvement from this treatment he's receiving in Pittsburgh.

They just said on Fox {John Gibson} that the treatment would not have been beneficial unless he was in more stable condition. He was not stable enough to move until today. They also said when the doctor called his name today he opened his eyes and looked at the doctor! And they accentuated 'Guarded' as his condition today. But I have heard them say before that he was in critical and guarded condition. I sure hope he makes it!

I wish I had faith in Fox News ..:chicken:

It would be fantastic if he responded when he heard his name.
