I am still very puzzled as to why the suspect was not considered a flight risk. Could it really be that military investigators were so quick to discount her as a nut-case that they were totally fooled ?I get a hinky feeling when someone is being dishonest with me. Many times it is very obvious. I'm sure that there are some people who are easily fooled, but it frustrates me to think that a person or persons who can't tell the difference would be in charge of an investigation. It is pretty sad when a perp can plan and carry out the murder and disposition of the body of his accuser right under LE's nose. Sheriff Brown even said that they had "kept a close eye on him". Right!

This is just so sad.

The current incoherent rambling by Brown should not surprise us. Just yesterday he had that presser telling Marie "That this has got to stop". That they had evidence that indicated she ran off.

I Brown is elegible for retirement, that's what he needs to do ASAP.

ETA: IIRC, he also said she needed "help" (as in mental help( and they could get it for her.

What about the Baby? If suspect is responible and charged with Murder will it
be 2 counts are 1

Sadly, no.
This has been covered in other recent, unsolved homicides of pregnant women in the state of NC ( Janet Abaroa, Jenna Nielson, Michelle Young)
NC does NOT have a fetal murder law.

So sad how this ended. Although I havent followed this as closely as you guys I just knew there was no way she just ran off. Again not knowing much I just hope this SM feels like chit now for how she has been putting her down.

Has anyone seen a pic or even a good description of suspect Cesar Armando Lauren?

This is so sad, Maria must have been so scared living in these conditions.
She was only 18, just a baby herself. It sounds like she did not get allot of
support from her family. And I am sure that as a naive 18yr old in a mans
world allot of what she said was ignored. It does not seem like she had anyone to turn to for support and when you add the fact that she was pregant to this I am sure she must have felt overwhelmed and scared. I could not see my daughter at 18 leaving home and joining the military. It
does not sound like she was emotionally mature enough to join the Marines.
I wonder if she joined to escape family pressures. So very sad.

They are working on getting a picture of the suspect and car. Also I just read that Maria dropped the sexaul assult charge last year. But she was supposedly witness something else and was suppose to testufy.

It's so sad and tragic on so many levels. This is the angriest/ saddest I have been since Laci Peterson and Conner were murdered. EVERYONE failed this pretty young woman, even calling her mentally ill and a compulsive liar.
Her family has a lot to answer to for the way they have spoken about her.

I have to go, I have to get away from this. My heart is BREAKING for ALL the young pregnant women who have been killed. They never ever had a chance against the murdering men who didn't want to be bothered with a child. God help this country.

On a related note, I just read a news article by Michael Baden addressing the extreme problem of cannibalism in the USA.
God help this country.

The sheriff said at the press conference that they don't have a picture of him yet.

Give me a break, the marines have it.....:bang:
And how long did they know about this guy...
Plus they can get it from the DMV.

It would be helpful if we knew where he was from, where he has relatives and friends. What is the connection to the ElPaso area? Is she from there, is the suspect from there, or is that just a convenient place to cross the border to Mexico? Is this suspect stupid enough to try to use that bus ticket that she purchased to get to the border?I've been to ElPaso, you walk across the street and you are in Mexico, no questions asked!Susan

Hi everyone,

I live on Gum Branch Road, but I'm at work today so I haven't been down there. I'll keep anyone posted on what's going on if I hear anything

I know! When he said that I thought what in the world, they can't get a picture of him right away? My lord he has a drivers liscence because they said he had escaped in his truck. Can't LE just pull a copy of those up on their computors? Also I am sure you are right that the marines must have on of him.

I would like to know who led them to the body. Who would know something like that other than the killer or an accomplice? I have not heard any mention of an accomplice at all, not that that means anything coming from these bozos.Susan
