...though he had no idea who might also have been in that apartment. And previously, he also walked into a salon in Decatur, TX, put a gun to a woman's head, and then forced her, another woman, and a 5yr old child into a closet.

In both cases, he was brazen and didn't seem to care whoever else might be inside.
Cox never gained entry to the woman's apartment and walked into an open hair salon to rob it. One perp somehow gaining access to the house or getting them outside is much more difficult to do as opposed to two or more people who at least one of the women knew. Cox was very sloppy in the other crimes he committed. I think he likes toying with the cops and the media. I can't see him pulling this off.

But the evidence showed the girls had spent time changing into sleep clothes, removing make up in the bathroom and otherwise getting ready for bed. You would think they would have had some interaction with Levitt, either looking in on her or talking to her. Their dog would have also been upset and barking if there were a stranger in the house with them.
what if levitt was in her room with the perp, but streeter not wanting to wake her mother up goes straight to her bedroom with mccall. the 2 girls were probably tipsy from the party they had just left, they then settle down for the night not knowing the perp is already in the house.

i thought the same. perp was in levitt home when streeter and mccall arrived home at 2 30AM.
levitt dress was missing. levitt would not be wearing a dress to paint and varnish. did levitt go on a date with a mystery man, as she was not expecting streeter to come home until monday.

cox was correct when he said the person who did this knew what they were doing.

Possibly because Streeter and McCall were in two separate vehcles and their vehicles, unless stopped at stoplight would have been moving. Kidnapping them in their cars would have been very difficult. Abducting them from the home would only require a ruse of some sort to get one of the women to the door and from there the culprit could either by force or threaten them wih a weapon.

I have wondered if the killer wasn't possibly a perp on the prowl and saw the girls as they made their way to the Levitt house and followed them to the house, waited until they got in and them used the ruse or weapon to get control of them.

I just hope that someday we find out how it all went down and who was responsible for this horrible crime.
they would not know who also might be in the house. levitt car was outside, so the perp would be taking a big risk following them into the house.

The missing dress is an interesting tidbit I didn’t know. Can you elaborate or point me to the source ?
I had always thought that Levitt had a friend/date over - there was something about her car not being parked in the car port as it usually was, made me think she had company and that the girls (at least Streeter) were familiar with. That would account for Streeter not saying/kissing her Mom good night, which was her habit. (Ozarks True Crime - Anne Roderique Jones - podcast). So, girls show up without calling, don’t bother Mom because she has company, take make up off and get into bed….i suspected that an accomplice showed up later and helped restrain the women and put them in a van. ATJ’s podcast also mentions the neighbor across the street who was up early and saw Streeter driving the van as she used her driveway to turn around. JMO MOO and all that.

Sherrill Levitt last seen wearing a floral print dress. Not sure this means with certainty, though, that a dress was actually missing.

Sherrill didn't say anything about any date on the phone call to her friend (at least not that I'm aware of).

With all that said, this still seems quite possible.

That is true. But, if he had a gun, he may have felt he could pull off the abduction regardless of who or how many were in the house.

Do you have a source for this? The dress?

i heard about this dress somewhere, but cant remember the source. there is a photo of streeter/levitt, mother and daughter taken outside delmar st, and levitt is wearing a blue dress, and holding cinnamon the dog. is this the missing dress.
