It doesn't really defie any belief. When I was in high school I had friends where I would feel very comfortable entering their home if the door was open, and especially if their cars were parked out front. Yes I would answer the phone if it rang too.

They would do the same at my house as well. Nothing really seems strange about it.

I agree. On a scale of one to ten, with ten being a totally unheard-of breech of the natural order, this is about a three.

It's only weird because of what was in a separate process of transpiring the night before. The events parallel one another but cannot be proven to intersect.

Thanks, Ibiz! It does help to know that this would not be considered unusual behavior to some and would in fact be considered pretty normal. Boundaries are more permeable in some relationships and social circles than others for sure...it would be interesting to know if this was pretty standard behavior amongst the Springfield teens. Yes it seems that they all knew each other pretty well. I know there are some friends where I can walk in and open their refrigerator, but occasionally you have the weird friend that would ask: "what the hell are you doing?" Some folks are touchy about stuff like that, and some are not. It seems to me that Sherrel was probably pretty easy going with Susie's friends. The way that Kirby's BF cleaned up the glass saying "Sherrel wouldn't like that", tells me that he knew her.

The question though is, how well did she know her. She hadn't been to the new house that they had lived in for a about three months. She didn't even know where the house was located, and stated she had never been there before. I guess it calls into question, just how close was JK with Susie at that point in her life. Susie had lived there for three months, but yet JK had made NO Trip to the house yet. That doesn't sound like someone who is a very close friend at all. JMO.

Three months is not a very long time. Nevertheless, I don't think they lived there three months, I think it was about a month, but I would have to look it up. It was my understanding that a lot of their stuff was still in boxes.

But again, if it was three months, it's still not much time.

Or it was a clever excuse to explain why they cleaned up the glass. Just one of many possibilities.

If I couldn’t get in touch with a friend the morning we had plans I’d assume something came up, and if their their cars were there, I’d think they were avoiding me. What would Janelle have said if they’d been asleep? She hadn’t been there, didn’t know the floor plan. What would she have said if they’d come in to find her roaming the house or checking the answering machine?

If I couldn’t get in touch with a friend the morning we had plans I’d assume something came up, and if their their cars were there, I’d think they were avoiding me. One hopes the police had the good sense to ask these logical questions.

For all the talk of Janelle being close friends with Suzie we have yet to see any real concrete proof.

The fact she hadn’t even bothered to visit Suzie at her new abode since she had moved in their speaks volumes.

It’s rather ironic that the day she finally decides to pop by is the day the 3 women have been kidnapped.

Also Suzie was a strict mum from all accounts and security conscious so I can not imagine she would of liked people just wondering in off the street and making themselves at home. Nothing in the reports I have read would suggest that Sherrill was that type of parent.

Especially if her car, her mum's car, and my other friend's car was parked in the driveway. If no cars were parked out front, I probably may not of stopped.

Maybe just called again, and drove by a little while later, but considering the circumstances where things seemed off. I can see why her mates would enter the home. I think at some point, Suzie's other mate from work came by and entered the home too.

Later in the evening, Mrs. McCall came by and entered the house as well. She is the one who fiddled with the answering machine deleting all the messages, and rifled through the purses, and snooped through Suzie's bedroom.

So should she be a suspect too?

Also, if the Kirby's were up all night commiting this crime, and spending their entire morning cleaning/staging the scene, then at some point they would of been pretty well pooped, and in need of some serious sleep. Especially after the big graduation the day before.

Janis is on record saying she didn’t like being in that house and she kept expecting Sherrill to come back home and say why the hell are you in my home. She was extremely uncomfortable being there.

Janelle entire behavior is suspicious because she had never been to that house before. So no you don’t just let yourself into a house you have never ever been in before.

You also don’t poke around inside answering the somebody’s else phone either. Then add in the fact that the cars were all outside, cigarettes were out & Purses out in the open and Stacey’s cloths in Suzie’s room you then don’t say “ oh I thought they had gone for a walk together” reallly!!!

Stacey went for a walk in her underwear apparently with no money and Janelle if she was such close friends with both girls she knew Stacey couldn’t fit in Susies clothes either so that’s not a excuse.

Where does it claim that Janis knew Sherrill that well?

It’s common sense that you would you be angry that a ton of of strangers or people you don’t know well are in your home making themselves are home with your stuff.

I would question the type of mothering that saw her girl dating a grave robber and also moving out of home and in with that known commodity Bartt her brother.

Not blaming her for any of this, it's a hard life to live, but saying Sherrill was strict is a chuckle.

I agree that them entering the house and looking around, to me, doesn't seem overly out of the ordinary. I too had friends when I grew up, way back when, that it wasn't overly unheard of to give a ring of the doorbell, or a quick knock on the door, and then try the door to see if it was unlocked, and if so, poke my head in an announce myself. Even entering the house, at some of my friends houses wouldn't be out of the norm. What I find out of the norm is the fact that they stated that they had plans to go to white water the next day. JK starts calling the house at 7:30am after being up until at least approx 2:30-3am. But after calling and calling and calling, she didn't go over there until 12:30pm. And then, instead of going back to the house several times during the day to see if they had returned, or left for that matter, JK and MH don't return to the house until 7:30pm, after deciding to go to the water slide instead. As well as the things they saw at the house that should have thrown several red flags up for most normal people.
Also, I don't think I've ever read WHO it was that erased the message. Mrs. McCall said, the message accidentally got erased, but she never stated WHO or AT WHAT POINT the message was erased. Would love to know exactly WHO erased the message.

Ok, I found a vintage 90's answering machine on e-bay that had the cover up that shows the directions. It says, "To save messages, press Save during Playback, or with in 10-seconds of playback". So it sounds very plausable that it could have happened accidentally. I wish we knew exactly what kind of answering machine they had. Although, you'd think with today's modern forensic technology, that anything that was erased on the answering machine could possibly be recovered in some way. Wonder if police have tried this?
