Thank you for stating the obvious which many Americans can't seem to grasp. No matter how he framed it in his presser, it still came across as gaslighting - its everyone else's fault. No responsibility taken, reinforcing how wonderful ICE are, all will be good as long as you all behave
I don't know how anyone can continue to support this government, it reeks of authoritarianism and keeps getting worse. Surely the majority of US citizens can see this? Can certainly see it plainly from outside the US
I'm trying to imagine what the situation will be like in several months when the World Cup comes to the US. It's a once in a generation opportunity to host the world's most popular sport. And some of the most rabid fans of football are from countries like Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Brazil, as well as Mexico, UK and Italy. There will be nearly 5 million people coming to these events. There's a lot of brown folk in that mix and they've got lots of money to spend. FIFA has received more than half a billion ticket requests for the games and I wouldn't be surprised if most of them are from those countries.
The World Cup generates millions and millions of dollars in revenues. How is this going to work? Will some of these people forego the events because they aren't enthralled over the possibility they get scooped up by ICE because of what they look like? Is the US going to be ordering any alien in the country to have their 'papers' on them at all times? I don't know about anyone else, but when I travel I don't walk around with my passport in my pocket. Not in the US, Italy, Panama, Germany France, Costa Rico, Mexico, etc.
If you are someone like Eva Longoria, the Hispanic actress who once said, when someone told her to go back to her own country, she said, "We didn't cross the border. The border crossed us." She's a 9th generation Texan. How many people in the US can trace their lineage back to generations that lived in the US long before the people who are telling them to get out, arrived? That is what is so f*****d up about this whole thing. Because we all know, regardless of the message that ICE sends, that they are looking for 'violent, criminal illegals,' that many of the people they have arrested are NOT illegals, that they DON'T have criminal backgrounds. The only thing they are guilty of, is not being the right colour. If you deny that, you are lying to yourself.
World Cup war games: How the U.S. is clamping down on security as FIFA comes to town
The U.S. is expecting at least 5 million international visitors, not to mention the millions of soccer fans at home, to be on the move during the six-week tournament
