Police have identified the woman who was reportedly beheaded in Shakopee, Minnesota Wednesday as 55-year-old America Mafalda Thayer. A suspect is in custody in connection with her death.

Around 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and Spencer Street. When they arrived at the scene, officers saw a body without a head lying on the ground next to a car, according to a search warrant. The victim's head was lying next to the body.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. — Editors note: Warning - this story contains highly graphic descriptions of the alleged crime, detailed by prosecutors in a criminal complaint.

A Shakopee man is charged with second degree intentional murder after police say he decapitated his girlfriend and threw her body into the street.

What a horrific act! Just horrible. Apparently he had been a threat to her for quite some time. I really feel for her son. He's only 10 years old and that video will live forever. Whoever posted the video on social media should face charges IMO.

"KARE 11's Lou Raguse was in court Friday and reports that during his appearance Saborit, speaking through an interpreter, not only declared his innocence but also alleged that Thayer was trying to extort and murder him and that he killed her in self-defense. He also asked the judge if he could be deported instead of go on trial, a request the judge quickly rebuffed. "

I'm in the next town over and was shocked that it happened in Shakopee in broad daylight!
Shocking... that goodness he was caught so fast.

His own defense counsel warned the court:

"..Judge Richard C. Perkins ordering Saborit's release in March despite the defense's claim he was mentally ill and that his release would "endanger safety of any person or the community".
Alexis Saborit who 'beheaded partner' was freed on bail before attack

Instead of a possible life sentence under first degree murder, he's being charged with second degree, so I guess prosecutors don't believe this was premeditated, perhaps they think it is a "crime of passion"?

There is a specific second degree murder clause in MN for those who have a restraining order seeking protection from someone and the perp "unintentionally" kills them when they only intended to cause bodily harm, max confinement of 40 years.

Gotta love these special wife/girlfriend laws inspired by some other century.

609.19 MURDER IN THE SECOND DEGREE.
(2) causes the death of a human being without intent to effect the death of any person, while intentionally inflicting or attempting to inflict bodily harm upon the victim, when the perpetrator is restrained under an order for protection and the victim is a person designated to receive protection under the order.
As used in this clause, "order for protection" includes an order for protection issued under chapter 518B; a harassment restraining order issued under section 609.748; a court order setting conditions of pretrial release or conditions of a criminal sentence or juvenile court disposition; a restraining order issued in a marriage dissolution action; and any order issued by a court of another state or of the United States that is similar to any of these orders.

TIA! :)

Oh - I'm going to "assume" he is being held without bond? It wasn't mentioned in the article that I had to put thru Outline.

I live about a half hour from Shakopee and I’m shocked at the brazenness and gruesomeness.

@Tippy Lynn - if you see a court case # for Saborit - he "might" be in the system.

I've noticed on the MN court site, if you put in a person's name - their case doesn't come up, but if you put in the case # it's there - strange!

Man in custody after woman found beheaded in Shakopee

"a report that a body without a head was pulled out of a vehicle and a man was walking through an alley."

"I thought I saw a body on the pavement, but I wasn't overly sure,"

"Shakopee Police Chief Jeff Tate told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he is "incredibly disappointed" that cellphone video from the aftermath of the incident was shared on social media. "

IMO WTF??? Someone posted this online! Ugh
