GUILTY Abby & Libby - The Delphi Murders - Richard Allen Arrested - #220

This is so sad. Two young girls, outside for a walk in nature. Should have been a safe day. I remember, back in the '70's, going out with friends all day on our bikes.

Now, we keep kids inside, with a myriad of video games, tv, computers. A generation of children too afraid to go outside for a walk, or play.

You only have to take a stroll through the Doe and missing threads to realise it wasn't safe in the '70s either. Parents were just told 'they ran away, they'll come home when they're hungry' and no police work was done. And if they did turn up dead from a stranger killing, odds are there wouldn't be a suspect caught and convicted even if they actually identified the victim, which often, they didn't. DNA changed the game as far as that kind of crime was concerned.

It wasn't safe in the 70s either. We just didn't have the internet to hear about all that was going on with children (or adults) that weren't local news. I can remember a guy that would drive really slow by a middle school. I lived 3 doors down and from my front yard I could see him slowing drive by on 3 of the 4 streets. He'd circle it.

Without going into too much detail, the kids all knew he was a problem. I was about 11 or 12, wearing a swimsuit, and walking to my friends house a few blocks away. And here came his green truck, slooooowly passing me, and doing a U-turn at the end of the block. I made it hope by crawling through bushes. I knew what he was after. Glad not to be the equivalent of a WS thread.

And that has got to be one of a LOT of different cases with children from every decade IMO.

The infamous RA interview marked “cleared”.
Even though Dulin recommends follow-up on the RA interview should be identifying the three girls on the trail, nothing apparently was done about that.
LE did of course talk with the girls, but if they had followed up with RA in mind and put those pieces together as quickly as they did in September of 2022, RA would have been in jail before February was over in 2017, in my opinion.

I have read something about LEO "counter transference", and the more alike the suspect is to the LEO interviewing the suspect, the less likely LEO is to believe the suspect is guilty of the crime.

That is why they try to have someone who doesn't look like the suspect.

If there is a silver lining at all, it's that maybe the delay in finding Richard Allen led to the exhaustive search which led to wider investigations of the ugly underbelly of other predators.

Not only did Richard Allen hide in plain sight but so, in many ways, so did the tip, with the ACTION ITEM incorrectly filed. Find the group of girls. Once identified, IMO the tip got buried. "Lead cleared." Tragically burying the true lead -- the lone male on the bridge at the exact time Abby and Libby were abducted and then murdered.

Worst, time created a vacuum under which social media and eventually the defense -- and defense-adjacent social influencers -- constructed conspiracies without foundations, making a frenzied spectacle which FRANKSLY overshadowed the real victims in this case. Two precious, unrepeatable bright lights who provided the definitive clues to their own murders, having the incredible presence of mind to film their abduction, and as a team, keep the phone hidden from the captor, even as they were being slaughtered.

Looking forward to soon forgetting his name entirely.

But never theirs.

Forever Abby and Libby.

His five undeserved years of freedom literally make me sick.
It's very lucky that no other child was harmed.
May he rot in prison.

Sadly, abductions/murders of children have been going on for hundreds of years.

The difference is our population has exploded over time and you know local stories for all areas immediately.

Statistically, abductions and murders of children have actually dropped significantly although you can't really tell it because of all of the media attention. In fact, a study was done where they surveyed thousands of people, asked them if they knew someone personally who had been attacked/murdered/abducted and the results of the study were that the media inflates the idea by 6000% versus the sum total of the survey results.
