I predict a verdict sometime this week :D and likely when I am away from here/telly etc.

I still have not found a site to sign up for a text alert for a heads up when the verdict is in, and all coming back 🤬🤬🤬 time.... which in this day and age, find surprising.

If anyone finds such (I don't do twitter, and I mean a TEXT to notify anyways)... please post.

TIA

I am going with later on Wed. They have 4 hours in...but I think given the magnitude of the case they will sift over everything today...only thing that will take some time here will be trying to get all on board with 2nd degree...to me the criteria are met but I would welcome hearing why it should only be 3rd?

Good to know. If this drags on, we might send you on some errands.

I'm thinking that yesterday they settled in, perhaps took a break for dinner, elected the foreperson, and talked about how to proceed (and sized each other up, imo). Today, they roll up their sleeves and start the actual work of looking at the charges and evidence.

Speculation, of course.

I think they might have also taken a straw poll yesterday. Got the first indication of how everyone is feeling ... what charge(s) each of them thinks Chauvin is guilty of.

This would have helped them to know where they need to start today.
For example, if they all think the manslaughter charge is a given, they can move on to deliberating the other charges right away.

They worked for 4 solid hours yesterday.
Started at 4pm and didn't finish until 8pm.
And yesterday was a particularly trying day.
For everyone.

Yes, I hope I didn't give the impression they weren't already working. Quite the opposite of what I meant! jmo

Morning!

After the public rebuke by the judge yesterday I'm worried now he may get death threats himself. I sincerely hope not. Does anyone know if armed security is also given to the judge? Or if he lives in the area or suburbs where DW was killed?

Its concerning if it does happen because he is bound by law to disclose them, and I'm sure EN will ask the judge. Imo the thousands of emails EN referred to most certainly have some death threats in them. Imo, he has a lot he will use in any appeal.

I can understand why he hasn't read them because he was busy working on his closing.

The main concern I have about it being overturned on appeal is when he asked for sequestration earlier are the riots that were happening just 10 miles from the courthouse. Also iirc one of the jurors lives where Mr. Wright was killed. I'm sure protestors had signs not only about DW but George as well. So how can they avoid seeing or hearing those things when leaving or going home for the day in that area?

Regretfully, I do think EN has enough to get the case overturned on appeal if DC is convicted.

He will use all that has happened, and been said to bolster there has been jury intimidation. Imo

Often a case is overturned due to a ruling made by the judge. I feel he may have erred when not sequestering them when he asked earlier when the riots happened when DW was killed.

The judge already seems to feel he has a very good appellate issue to overturn about what he discussed yesterday on the record, and this a very seasoned judge who was a prosecutor himself.

May justice be served soon.

Snipped.

The jury needs to be prepared to set aside everything except what was presented as evidence. Even during a trial, something might be said or shown that is objected to - and the judge tells the jury to disregard.

Until proven otherwise, I'm trusting the jury to focus on what they were instructed to do: look at the evidence presented in court and look at the charges.

That is where I think they would start...settle in...foreperson and then a vote on manslaughter which I am just guessing may be unanimous...then move on today.

I agree. I think the charges of 2nd degree are going to be where the debate will come into play. They may not come to a consensus on that charge - but I think the other two charges will be decided quickly.

I think there is no question that Judge Cahill will get and has gotten threats....he has been pretty vocal about his feelings toward the City Council and now Waters....some of those views are not very welcome here in Minneapolis. His address in a nearby suburb is an easy google and I am sure he has high level security. Given Nelson is hired more or less by the Police Union he will no doubt protected too. But the jurors have been going home every night until now with no security. I too think Mr. Nelson will have enough for appeal. The judge seems to have outlined his appeal case already. Mr. Nelson mentioned already the threats to his life. He lives in south minneapolis...same general community where this went down. Each day as jurors come and go from courthouse and now are transported to their hotel they see the demonstrations...they were really large last night....they know what is riding on this verdict and in my opinion cannot eliminate that from their decision making.

President Biden spoke with Philonise Floyd, the brother of George Floyd, on Monday, delivering well wishes as the family and nation awaits a verdict in the trial of Derek Chauvin.

“He was just calling. He knows how it is to lose a family member. And he knows that the process of what we’re going through so he was just letting us know that he was praying for us, and hoping that everything would come out to be okay,” Floyd said.

The call comes as the White House has closely monitored the trial. Aides are considering or drafting statements for Biden to deliver, either in person or in writing, once a verdict is delivered.

Biden is trying to strike a balance between acknowledging racial inequity while also maintaining calm, wanting neither to replicate the heavily militarized response to protests under Trump nor to appear absent in the face of violence or unrest directed at law enforcement, all while acknowledging the systemic racism that pervades the system.

Thank you for your local perspective. It is much appreciated.

Yes, I'm worried EN does have enough to prove jury intimidation from the very start actually, and they will convict no doubt.

I pray it's based solely on the evidence presented to them, but they are also human, and already knows what will happen if they don't. Threats, and intimidation that's been made only causes more problems.

This case is different than other cases no doubt.

That's why I wish everyone had waited for the jury to render their verdict first. Sadly that hasn't happened, and its opened a huge can of worms for the case to be overturned on appeal even if convicted.

Thank you also for the local info you've provided to my questions.
