Hmmm what was that?
We’ve been waiting for the ME’s testimony, it is critical towards the cause of death yet the direct examination was so short. I’m shocked. Unless redirect is going to go further. That didn’t sound like very clear, certain testimony to me. Nelson up next with his scenarios that in no way relate to what DC did to GF.

I think ‘caused’ and ‘contributed’ are commonly misconceived as being interchangeable. They’re not. Several things contributed to his death but didn’t cause his death. That’s the way I’m understanding it anyway.

Dr. Baker says he didn't find pills or pill fragments in Floyd's stomach, which is notable because the defense has brought up the pills found at the scene to argue they contributed to his death.

I find the mention of this pill by the defense odd. Any reasonable person can understand if a pill is found outside of a body, it is not possible to have ingested it. Perhaps if it were implied to be in soneone's mouth, the majority of said pill is still intact so any amount ingested would be very minimal. Jmo

“Cause of death: Cardiopulmonary arrest (heart and lungs stopped) complicating law enforcement subdual, restart and neck compression”

The word “complicating” is very confusing to me. Even Dr Thomas seemed unclear about its medical meaning. If he meant “caused by” or “resulting from,” why not just state that?
Baker agrees “complicating” means occurring in the setting of…

boy the state kept that short and sweet...a bit unusual as they usually really get into the weeds with these guys. What do you all think of that? Seemed to use the previous witness for more details than the guy who did the autopsy?
I think that the most important part of the autopsy was the cause of death. The cause of death supports the prosecution's case, so I think they went with the 'less is more' method here. Allowing the report to speak for itself.

Edited out double quote. My error

#DerekChauvinTrial - Baker: restraint, being held against the ground, pain, those events cause adrenaline & that makes your heart beat faster and body to make more oxygen. "Imo, the law enforcement subdual, neck restraint was just more than Mr. Floyd could take

#DerekChauvinTrial - Blackwell finished direct of Dr. Baker, there was a sidebar, then the judge called for a 10 min break before Nelson's cross-exam.

I believe the term 'complicating' in this instance is to mean 'as a result of'. That's how I understand it.

Please tell me that Nelson is not going to continue to harp on the drug overdose track.

#DerekChauvinTrial - Nelson up with cross-exam of medical examiner. Nelson asks Baker to define "complicating" as in his cause of death. He gives the example of having surgery and developing a blood clot in your leg.

I think he is. Especially when wanting a definition of “complicated”.

Nelson asks Dr. Baker to define "complicating."

"It means that an intervention occurred & there was an outcome that was untoward on the heels of that intervention. So for example, somebody goes into the hospital for hip surgery and they develop a blood clot in their leg..."

I love the snark he’s giving right back to Nelson. It’s making me giggle. My dad thinks I’ve gone crazy

The goal is planting a seed of doubt in one juror.....
and one juror may have entrenched preconceptions based on his/her background...
