Sanctity of human life is the number one priority in policing

Everyone knew it had gone way too far- except DC. He either knew or didn’t care IMO.

The dragging and dropping of George (by Chauvin) after Chauvin finally got off George's neck has befuddled me. It seems very cruel - as if George was just a sack of potatoes.

I have tried to put some kind of 'rational' point to it, because it really disturbed me.
Maybe to try to inadvertently restart George's heart, by thumping him down on the road?
Maybe to show the bystanders "there, that's what I think of him"?
Maybe to see if George had a pain reaction?

Why on earth did he show such disrespect to a possibly dead, and definitely unconscious, person?

#MorriesHall - Hall, man w/ #GeorgeFloyd on the day of his death, had a hearing this morning in Redwood County unrelated to the #DerekChauvinTrial. He appeared via Zoom in jail clothes. We were allowed to observe but no broadcast. I'll report what happened in this text thread:

I questioned the two rookies being paired for duty as well. I remember the first sergeant testified that at the start of the shift, after roll call and any updates, he allocated who would be paired together. I believe his name may have been Pleuger and he is now retired

Rookie Mohamed Noor (who killed Justine Damond in Minneapolis) was also paired with another rookie.

Noor’s lack of experience as a police officer, and the fact he was paired with another rookie cop in partner Matthew Harrity, has been the subject of much criticism directed at the Minneapolis Police Department since the shooting.

Do you have a non-paywall link to it?

Thanks

What's abundantly clear to me, though, is that George Floyd ultimately lost his life because Derek Chauvin refused to release his knee(s), even after fellow officers had suggested turning him to the recovery position; even after fellow officers had advised that GF had no detectable pulse; even after (I'd argue 'in direct defiance of') several onlookers had expressed great concern over GF's well being. Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd, and he did so under the guise of his role as a Police Officer, thinking he'd get away with it. Disgusting.
RSBM

What hits me hardest is he not only died but died horribly. It is freaking terror to not be able to breathe and be aware of it - helpless terror. And based on what he said, I absolutely believe he was aware of every second he couldn't breathe until he lost consciousness.

I agree, that was absolutely awful. Just a lack of humanity. At least the paramedic was there to cradle his head or it would’ve been even worse :(

Reading the judge's question there, made me chuckle ;)
Hall's sex trafficking charges were surprising IMO

They just played a clip from Ofc. Thao’s BWC video. Stoughton notes that you hear him say “this is why you don’t do drugs, kids.” “

…If you are worried about interference from bystanders. You don't say things that are likely to exacerbate that situation.” #DerekChauvinTrial
Yeah, first he says "this is what happens when you do drugs," and later when the crowd is getting even more upset Thao says, "Don't do drugs, kids!"

Did they think they were setting an example for a few teenagers and a nine year old?

Does Nelson understand his own questions? It's very hard to follow him.

And why does he have to add Right? To every question?

That’s bothered me from the get go! And “reasonable officer”

I didn't view Thao's demeanor in a positive light, from the videos shown. JMO.

The concept of a "reasonable officer" is at the heart of this entire case, IMO. It references the Graham vs Connor statute:

Edited to clarify wording and add link.
