This thread is to discuss the case of George Floyd. It is not a thread to discuss racism in general.

Unless your post relates to this case specifically, it is off topic and will be removed.

Hey everyone,

Please be respectful by discussing the trial and the testimony without trashing witnesses, lawyers, or any other officers of the Court.

Thanks.

ADMIN NOTE:

Please stay on topic by discussing the trial without introducing the peripheral matters of riots and protests, BLM, all the extraneous chatter about racial inequities and other social justice issues.

We acknowledge, we understand how critical this trial is in relation to those issues, but we need to stay focused on this case and the trial itself. Yes there is overlap with those important issues, but the thread is specifically dedicated to discussing the George Floyd case and the Derek Chauvin trial and not all those other matters.

If members wish to generally speculate on how such issues may have influenced either the victim or the accused, that's fine, but please don't bring in specifics related to all those other matters and derail the thread with social justice issues that will not be resolved in this discussion.

Thanks !!

ADMIN NOTE:

To say simply that GF possibly had fear as a black man was left as reasonable speculation that doesn't warrant dissecting it any further. IF GF had that fear, surely we can all understand where it may have originated.

Quite a few posts had to be removed due to general back and forth bickering. There is no way to edit that many posts and be able to retain context so a lot of responses got removed in the process.

What to Watch For on Day 4 of Derek Chauvin’s Trial

Jurors will enter the fourth day of proceedings in the Derek Chauvin trial on Thursday with a newfound understanding of what happened on the day George Floyd died, thanks to camera footage and witness testimony that laid out his actions moment by moment.

Before Wednesday’s testimony, the jury had not heard such a thorough retelling, from inside the corner store where Mr. Floyd bought cigarettes to his time pinned on the pavement to when he was carried away on a stretcher. For the first time, jurors saw footage from the body camera of Mr. Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer charged with killing Mr. Floyd.

Good morning all!

I just saw on the news the man who was in the car with George will take the fifth if called to testify.

Both the prosecution, and defense have him on their witnes list.

He was supposed to be a key witness for the state.

Evidently the state will not give him immunity to testify.

So I wonder if the state will call him at all?

Although if the state doesn't call him we all know the defense will even though the first thing out of his mouth is saying he will take the fifth.

I'm sorry I've forgotten the man's name.

Has the possibility of GF suffering from "excited delirium syndrome" been mentioned yet either on here or in the courtroom?

It will be. Lane spoke about that when they were pinning George to the ground.

I was reading about their training the other day. They are/were trained a lot about dealing with excited delirium, and not enough about positional asphyxia.

Here is a really good article about it, and why George was not displaying signs of excited delirium.

"In the bystander and restaurant videos,” Melinek says, “Mr. Floyd appeared to be responding and talking to the officers, and once restrained, he was speaking clearly that he couldn’t breathe; he also wasn’t dressed inappropriately for the weather, and didn’t appear to be sweating profusely. All of these facts argue against excited delirium as being the cause of death or a significant contributor."

Good morning trial watchers!

I think State can offer GF’s friend that was in the car immunity and compel him to testify. I would think his testimony is important as is the woman that was in the car.

TBH, what can that person add? Is it relevant? e.g. what if he admitted to being the one that gave George the bills in the store, and was using George to wash the counterfits per se. This would move it into a much bigger question, one that I have had, is where is the counterfeit ring as George didn't make them. IYKWIM.

It just opens up a big worm farm for the case as to the counterfeit monies MOO, and I don't see how doing such benefits this case at this time. More justice for George that that ring is disbanded?

It would be a distraction to the act of George's death. imo

But in reading the transcripts, it seems the reason that Lane took George away from the car (that George, the man, and the woman were in) is because he thought he saw 'them' concealing something under the front seat. Lane wanted to restrain George in the squad car, and go back to the car that he took George from and check the car. He had the park police person watching that car.

Thanks for reminding me that I haven't had time to read the LE transcripts that were posted here yesterday. Off to read them. https://kstp.com/kstpImages/repository/cs/files/Floyd Transcript 1.pdf

The pdf is 60 pages...May 31st - With Special Agent Brent Peterson with the BCA, Special Agent Michelle Presconi with BCA, Special Agent Kevin Keane with FBI, Attorney Earl Gray, law clerk Kevin Grey ..with Thomas Lane.

Can any of these transcripts (that are defense exhibit #1 @margarita25 for the court) come into court without Lane or his partner in court also?

Wasn't there another transcript other than Lane's transcript (e.g. Chauvin or Keung or Tao? I'd like to put in the media/information thread all in one post.

TIA if anyone knows if there are 4 of them, and if someone has them all at their fingertips to post here in thread.

That makes sense to me. The counterfeit issue is much bigger than a drug charge and one that is not lightly dismissed, imo, especially if the testimony isn't necessary. Those moments at the street corner are adequately documented without the witness needing to fill in gaps that would change anything, imo.

Good point.
