Does it sound reasonable to assign two newly qualified officers to go out on patrol together? In my opinion it would make more sense for one of the two to have had a bit more experience.

That was queried in the Lane affidavit https://kstp.com/kstpImages/repository/cs/files/Floyd Transcript 1.pdf (I haven't gotten to the Keung transcript )... perhaps a reason for the civil suit against the city e.g. that issue, the issue of the ambulance taking so long, that it wasn't communicated to Chauvin that he admitted to have recently done "hooping" yet not followed up, the issue of why the FD EMS weren't standard response originally when went to code 3 immediately etc.

Yet, notwithstanding all of that...we can come back from the staff to focus on the whey and ignore *squirrels*?

...as Chauvin was right there, he caused/contributed to death, he knew better, he didn't assess/reevaluate/consider GF, he did not respond to give medical care... not even checking to see if NARCAN was needed by seeing dilated pupils or taking pulse, this is not what he was trained to do, outside of what is acceptable etc.

IMO he never should have had his knee on his neck to begin with. Common sense it could have dire consequences. So many other options to deal with this right from the start. Chauvin and others simply chose not to. Over a 20.00 bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What really amazes me is that it looked like he had his hand around Floyd's wrist almost the entire time. After Floyd stops breathing, he moved his fingers down and appeared to be checking his pulse. Yet he kept his knee in place until the paramedic asked him to move. After Lane got into the ambulance with Floyd, Chauvin told him to buckle him down. I think even Lane was surprised by that.

Noted just now on the WaPo live feed. The court allowed only one seat for a Chauvin family member, only one seat for a Floyd family member. (Due to COVID)

Since the start of jury selection, there has never been a person in the Chauvin seat. That explains why the other day I was confused as it appeared two Floyd members in the court... I guess they gave the Chauvin seat to a Floyd family member?

JUDGE IS ON!!!! Here we go

State calls Jon Edwards (the Sgt that yesterdays Sgt Pleoger turned the case over to as he was leaving shift)

#DerekChauvinTrial - Reminder, yesterday the judge said they are ahead of schedule and the jury will have this afternoon off. It's not clear if judge/attorneys will handle motions, etc.. on camera this afternoon.

From Kueng's body cam footage, he sees Chauvin's body cam on the ground, goes back to ambulance asks Lane if it's his, then turns to Chauvin, "Sir, is this yours?" Chauvin looks down at his uniform then takes the camera.

Yes, completely acceptable that the defendant hear sidebars. We've even covered trials that the defendant walks up to the bench with the attorneys.

@LawCrimeNetwork Is it legal, Derek Chauvin puts on his headphones along with attorneys every time Judge calls for Attorney Sidebar? I've never seen a defendant walk up along with lawyers when Judge calls Attorney sidebar. What's up with that?

Washington Poat reporting this morning that there’s no one there on Chauvin’s side in the spectator room. No family/friends. Not sure what that means.

ETA: Just saw @dixiegirl1035 already posted this!

The state asking Judge Cahill, if there's a conviction, for an upward departure on sentencing, meaning the judge has the discretion to increase the sentence if certain factors apply. Since Chauvin has no prior convictions, the top count would only bring 12.5 yrs, state wants more

State calls Sgt. John Edwards.

Through the course of your carter you have been assigned to numerous teams

Also worked on community team for a year which is outside of scope of 911 and is all about crime prevention

Engagement unit 2 years
That unit derived from Obama’s 21st century policing and that unit was focused on needs of community. Specific needs of the community. Not 911 patrol

Current rank sgt

This is what I keep thinking about. 20 bucks. We don’t even know if GF even knew it was fake. Even if he did...Police are suddenly pointing a gun in his face. It was such a weird escalation by LE when he wasn’t being violent to anyone. Seemed to be high, yes, but not violent. Then it’s obvious to me that he’s having a major panic attack (I know them well). The whole entire episode seemed unnecessary to me. To end with him dying right there on the street over twenty dollars is insane.

Discussing critical incident response

Were you working on May 25

Witness yes sir I was

Shift start at 20:30. First thing I do is start role call with my officers. Everyone is there and accounted for. Anytime to pass on pertinent info. Crime patterns to be aware of. If the officers have anything they want to bring to the table

Chauvin’s wife also divorced him right after he was charged. I remember there was some speculation that they were trying to protect their finances from a civil suit. But I believe qualified immunity means Chauvin can’t be personally sued. So I wonder.....
