How does Chauvin or the defense explain NOT starting CPR, or not putting GF in a recovery position?

Unless Chauvin himself testifies that he thought he felt a pulse, thought he was just passed out and still breathing, I don't know how they explain that?

I agree, I’ll be interested in that portion of the defense case.
He made the decision not to turn him, I’d need to know why too.

A presumably insignificant detail that I've noticed throughout the trial so far is that it seems Nelson pronounces DC's name like 'show-vin', but prosecutors tend to pronounce as 'shaw-vin', except Schleicher, who often says' shaw-vin', then immediately follows up with 'show-vin' and apologizes. I have no idea, of course, whether any of this is intentional, but I do find it almost amusing.

I have been watching this too...I assume the Show-vin is correct given it is Nelson using that pronunciation however local media are using both....Thao used Shaw-vin in interview. I find myself interchanging the two but always thought it was Show-vin.

in my limited perspective living here he has tried but is up against a stone wall with most of the MPLS City Council and not great backing from the Mayor . He has to literally beg for funds and fight a trend to "****** the police". There is an election in Nov. and I think the City Council will change alot...but it is a long slog to change a culture of "warrior training".

Thank you :) I found myself watching the chief and wondering what the jurors thought of him. So having a local perspective (limited or not), is helpful to me.

police work being what it is - is much easier to play Monday morning quarterback.

there’s been corroborative testimony that people on illicit drugs can regain consciousness and be MORE violent. Restraining a large strong man like Floyd proved difficult -

The crowd was growing and appeared combative to the point paramedics made the call to scoop & move Floyd

I still don’t understand why it took so long for paramedics to arrive, do you? Maybe I missed that part of testimony.

"The crowd was growing ' is a theme that Defense is using..Thao hangs his hat on this in his interview...had to "control" the "crowd". I don't hang on streets or in areas where people tend to gather to make trouble and to me that sure did not look like any "crowd"...a handful of VERY VERBAL people that went to a store on a nice holiday evening.

BBM I think this is something that is actually still part of the new statutes that I was reading on the weekend. Basically, without having the benefit of hindsight, what is reasonable considering ALL the circumstances (obviously parapharased lol I don't want to hunt them down again but this is what I understand after reading them)

As for the paramedics... I am actually a bit troubled by this as well. First, how long it took them to get to the scene, second... how long it took them to start working on GF once they got there. Someone pointed that out yesterday in a post, and now does bother me. all JMO

#DerekChauvinTrial - NOW: Chief of Police Medaria Arradondo called to the stand.

Chief.jpg

Prosecutor Steve Schleicher having Chief Arradondo go over his background/training.

From pool reporter notes this morning: they have removed the chair from the courtroom that was designated for Chauvin family/rep because so far no one has been in that seat. They will put it back if someone shows up for him

It's been 20 mins since the chief took the stand and Schleicher is still asking him about his background. One critique some of our legal analysts have had is the long intros of witness backgrounds that could be cut down.

Earlier, Chief Arradondo identified Chauvin in the courtroom by describing what he was wearing.

#DerekChauvinTrial - Chief Arradondo says they spent more than $8 million dollars last year on officer training

This is a document signed by Derek Chauvin stating he understand and has read the policy/procedure manual.

He is very well liked in Minneapolis. I think he will stay on thru the elections and if the same group are back my opinion he will move on. He has had job offers and if not permitted to do the job he was hired for time to go is what he is probably thinking.

I know this Doc would rather be back up north in Grand Rapids but I wish he would at least look to the jury once in a while.

This is his very first time testifying so not surprised that he does not know to look at jury

The paramedic that testified second and who was in charge said that he thought GF was dead when they arrived and he wanted to get him out of there to work on him because it would take a lot of people and room

What's even more interesting is the actual meaning of the word Chauvin. I think it describes his look, when he stared at the crowd with his hand on his waist. I'm not sure what the "clapping" at the hospital that prosecutors showed was all about.

I watched Friday's testimony again last night (on double speed on youtube, was awesome lol). I also noticed that Nelson and even the prosecution brought up that this area and corner specifically is known to LE for the crime there, even why they have a cam there, I fully expect to hear more testimony about that later.

Is he one of the police officers who signed the letter addressed to "everyone," especially the community, condemning the officers actions? I know Zimmerman did but I'm not sure of the others.

But don't you think Nelson has missed his opportunity here? Why didn't he pressure the paramedics about their response time? Why didn't he try and reiterate this point with the ED resident about the damage that delay would have had.

Just feel he's missed his opportunity to raise those important questions MOO. Perhaps because he knows that on re-examination the state will just use it to highlight that the officers could/should have started CPR themselves during that delay.

I think Nelson's just playing a waiting game until medical testimony and toxicology IMO.

I think I read there is a lot of gang activity there. Probably a lot of shootings and drug dealing. Imo

I understand that, but 'thought he was dead' didn't stop the ER doc from still trying for a half hour. I don't know... it bothers me... paramedics had just got on the scene, he could have stopped breathing just as they pulled up, they didn't know how long it was, why wait minutes before working on him?

Floyd had been sitting handcuffed on the sidewalk and submissively and politely cooperating until LE tried to force him into the police vehicle. For whatever reason (panic, claustrophobia, drugs or Covid), Floyd said he couldn’t breath and struggled. At that point he was placed in a prone position on the ground, continuing to state he couldn’t breath, became unconscious, Chauvin continued to apply pressure, and the rest is history. If he had been rolled on his side appropriately, or even allowed to sit up so that he could breath, he could still have been restrained, but allowed to breath. When someone says they can’t breath, LE has to act accordingly and not dismiss it as a lie.

Yes, he would also risk emphasizing that the officers failed to give paramedics accurate information when they called, and the miscommunication it caused.

That's a good point about it highlighting that they didn't provide basic CPR too and maybe he doesn't want to highlight it. I think this is the biggest hurdle for the defense to overcome. IMO

I had not thought much of it myself until the witness last week "didn't believe" it took that long.

I AM SO TICKED OFF THIS MOMENT. The Dr. From the medical center is testifying about blood gases like CO2. OMG. This poor man took all his last breaths while laying at the back of the car inches from the muffler pipe. He was put on the ground at the back of the car, no camera there, to breathe by the exhaust while they were stopping his breathing.

Can I ask where have you got the "clapping" from? If it's in reference to this picture, he's not clapping (IMO). He's like stretching/playing/counting with his fingers. Think it would be highly damaging if he was clapping and I've seen no footage of that.

Exhaust lets out nitrogen gas and like 17% CO2. How unfair is any of this..how can they ask about blood gas if this is where they put him????
