Just have to ask this question....
Does anyone else think Prosecutor Steve Schleicher resembles Harrison Ford?

#DerekChauvinTrial - Here are the 12 seated jurors. Need 2 alternates. Many of our legal experts are shocked the judge is only wanting 2 alternates considering long trial, covid, etc.

I too am surprised at only two alternates. A capital triple murder trial I was on had four alternates. I think there is a risk having only two.

The judge was fired up!!!

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and city attorney Jim Rowader said Thursday they don't think the proceedings have been hurt by the settlement.

In court, Nelson, the lead defense attorney, complained that the city had addressed the settlement at another press conference.

The prosecution brought it up again at the end of the day, spurring Cahill to angrily respond, "I've asked the City of Minneapolis to stop talking about it," referring to the settlement.

"Everybody just stop talking about it," Cahill said. "Let me decide what the ramifications are."

Chelly, does this mean the city is still discussing the settlement publically even today? TIA!

If so, this is insane. Why in the world would they continue to do this knowing it's already thrown a real monkey wrench into the criminal trial when trying to find untainted... unbiased jurors?

Maybe I'm misreading it. I hope I am.

ETA: never mind. I see it is true. What a mess.

IMO, the state surely was aware of the city discussions about the civil suit. This was done on purpose. Mistrial? Change of Venue? They did it twice!!! KNOWING what the outcome would be. It is an unfair and unethical precedent to announce such DURING the jury selection of a Criminal Trial. And the MN mayors office has a press conference? Discussing it!? AFTER the judge cried foul? Bad news.....all, IMO of course

No, you are reading it right, it's just so ludicrous that someone would publicly announce a $27 million dollar settlement in the middle of this juror selection. Personally I think that should have been reason to dismiss all jurors and move the trial to another county or even another state.
