Lawyerless Derek Chauvin cites lack of finances in appeal request | kare11.com

According to court documents, Chauvin says he doesn't have the money to retain private counsel for the appeal.

"The district court case for which I intend to appeal was paid for by the Minneapolis Peace and Police Officer's Association, and I have been informed that their obligation to pay for my representation terminated upon my conviction and sentencing," Chauvin said.

Chauvin applied for a public defender but was denied. He's now asking the Minnesota Supreme Court to review that denial.

Thursday, Chauvin also asked the courts to move forward without being liable for costs. Friday, that request was denied.

Ha so Derek Chauvin must be thinking his career in law has gone so well, that the <modsnip> is gonna be his own lawyer at his appeal. If this case wasn't so serious that would be 100% hilarious <modsnip>?

I hope someone can tell me, in the US if you appeal your guilty verdict & sentence can the sentence actually end up being increased at appeal??? That would be a perfect outcome, though I still say the same as when he went to trial -

WHY <modsnip> DO YOU NEED A TRIAL CHAUVIN, THE MURDER YOU COMMITTED WAS CAUGHT ON MULTIPLE VIDEOS.

There was <modsnip> for a jury to question, just as there's <modsnip> to appeal. Even to those who say he was "doing his job". Nah police arrest & charge you. They don't arrest, put you on trial & carry out DP on you at the alleged crime scene <modsnip>. To say he was resisting so he kept the knee on the neck.
Was he resisting still when face down, cuffed up from behind. Cos 110% when your in that position you can't resist <modsnip> . Was he resisting when he said he couldn't breathe?? When he was unconscious?? When paramedics were going to try find a pulse & he's still using knee to the next for severe resistance only. Off course not!

But to the appeal this dude is more deluded than 1st thought. He is gonna get slaughtered by prosecutors & will be happy to watch the <modsnip> he is go down again, hopefully with a longer sentence that's possible....

Regardless he's no chance of an aquital so he's got decades either in solitary for his protection. Or if for some reason he's let into either PC or (unlikely but possible at some point) Gen Pop. Wonder how much of a bully <modsnip> he'll be with similar dudes, with no authority, badge, cuffs ect.

Satisfied to know what is classed as "hard time" I can say with confidence I know that's what that <modsnip>is doing now. All he's gonna do is make it allll worse for himself than it would be, attempting to represent himself at appeal. Will be watching this one for sure.

Regardless of peoples opinion on the case (though sure I've made mine clear enough lol).

Curious what people think about him being his own lawyer at appeal??

And deffo wanna know if in either the US or on a state by state basis, the appellate process can increase the sentence or not??

Any more news on the Federal charges for all of them? I have last court dates for Chauvin - arraignment for 14 year on 9/16 & Floyd on 9/14. Other officers arraignment for Floyd on 9/14.
And have trial set to begin on 10/8/21 - still true??

TIA anyone!

@keribla

The Texas parole board just recommended posthumous clemency for George Floyd
This is for the 2004 drug charge he got in Houston, when he was arrested by a cop now accused of fabricating informants. Now, the decision moves to
@GovAbbott

Okay @Legally Bland - having problems bringing up the other officers' records on the court site link to Chauvin. Can you link them for me? That way I'll have all of their cases. TIA!

Okay - re reading my notes their Federal trial is supposed to start on 10/8 - but obviously it won't be - as the notes on Chauvin's federal case says briefs are due on 10/28 & others later.

I think they're all on the same indictment, so should their records should be at the same link.
