Feb. 24, 2023
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Minn. -- Derek Chauvin's ex-wife Kellie Chauvin pleaded guilty on Friday to tax fraud.

She had been charged with two felony counts of aiding and abetting tax fraud, and the remaining counts against her were dropped.

She will be sentenced in May and as part of the plea deal, will not go to prison. Instead, she is expected to be sentenced to three years probation, community service, and must pay restitution.
[.....]
Derek Chauvin was not part of Friday's plea deal. He faces similar tax fraud charges in Washington County, and his case is ongoing. He is currently serving a prison term in Arizona for murdering Floyd.

MINNEAPOLIS – The former Minneapolis police officer convicted in the 2020 killing of George Floyd pleaded guilty Friday to two tax evasion counts, admitting that he didn't file Minnesota income taxes for two years due to “financial concerns.”

Derek Chauvin pleaded guilty specifically to two counts of aiding and abetting, failing to file tax returns to the state of Minnesota for the 2016 and 2017 tax years.
[.....]
Chauvin appeared in a Minnesota court via Zoom from a federal prison in Tucson, Arizona, where he is serving his sentences on a state murder conviction for killing Floyd and on a federal count of violating Floyd's civil rights.

He stood in a room and paced around before Friday's hearing began. When Washington County Judge Sheridan Hawley asked why he didn't file his Minnesota tax returns, he told the judge: “The true reason is some financial concerns at the time.”
[....]
He was sentenced to 13 months in prison on the tax charges, but he has already been incarcerated for longer than that and was given credit for time served.

His ex-wife, Kellie May Chauvin, pleaded guilty Feb. 24 to two counts of aiding and abetting their failure to file tax returns for 2016 and 2017. Her plea agreement called for three years of probation and restitution with no more than 45 days of community service. The other charges were dropped. Hawley said she will be sentenced May 12.

***
Three other officers were convicted of federal charges of violating Floyd's rights. Two of them have also been convicted of a state count of aiding and abetting manslaughter, while the third is waiting for a judge to decide his fate on the state charges.

I do not think I will post the sentencing for Kellie - I shall let that date slide.

And I too await for the Judge's decision on Thao's verdict. Sure is taking his sweet time about it.... okay it has only been 60 days plus where he said he would give his decision in about 90 days. :)

Do they have to return the unpaid taxes with interest ?
I would think so.

Governor Tim Walz announced Tuesday that he has appointed Matthew Frank as a district court judge in Hennepin County.

Frank, who was a lead prosecutor in both the Derek Chauvin and Kimberly Potter trials, will replace Nicole A. Engisch.

The Minnesota Court of Appeals, in a 50 page opinion, has just unanimously upheld Derek Chauvin's conviction in the George Floyd murder. The decision is here: https://mncourts.gov/mncourtsgov/media/Appellate/Court%20of%20Appeals/Standard%20opinions/OPa211228-041723.pdf

Dang - thought it might be news about Thao verdict... The Judge is sure taking his time. Since Jan. 31th - so what is that - about 2 plus months... but it did say in 90 days.
But thanks for the info on Chauvin! :)

Finally!!

May 1, 2023
Former Minneapolis police officer Tou Thao is expected to learn his future Monday on a state charge in George Floyd’s death.

As previously reported by 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, Thao waived his right to a jury trial in October. That means Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill will deliver the verdict on the count of aiding and abetting second-degree murder, months after closing arguments were made. Judge Cahill was expected to return a verdict within 90 days of receiving the case.
[.....]
If Thao is convicted, state guidelines recommend a sentence of four years, which he would serve at the same time as his three-and-a-half-year federal sentence.

Judge Peter Cahill has ruled that former Minneapolis police officer Tou Thao is GUILTY of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in the killing of George Floyd. This is the final pending criminal charge against former officers involved in Floyd's murder.

Tou Thao asked for essentially a bench trial in lieu of a jury trial. His co-defendants Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Keung both took plea deals. But Thao said "it would be a lie and a sin for me to accept a plea deal." The judge's verdict is 177 pages long.

In his analysis, Judge Peter Cahill wrote that it encouraged officers to keep Floyd in a prone position when Thao discouraged them from using a hobble. And that his actions as "human traffic cone" allowed officers to continue restraint and prevented bystanders from helping.
