Rallies will be held in Sydney this week as violent race riots continue to sweep the U.S. following the alleged murder of African-American man George Floyd at the hands of a white cop.
'This is a PEACEFUL PROTEST for the misrepresentation of our Indigenous population in the legal system, as well as in solidarity to George Floyd,' the Facebook event read.

'Although Australia is far from where the [alleged] murder took place, we have a voice. We stand with Minneapolis and their people calling for a raise in the degree.

'Australia however, is not exempt from injustices faced for people of colour and the Indigenous population.'

So far 900 people said they will be attending Sydney's protest, with nearly 3,000 interested in going.

was pronounced dead at Hennepin County Medical Center.
TheHennepin CountyMedicalExaminer(ME) conducted Mr. Floyd's autopsy on May 26 , 2020. Thefull
report ofthe ME is pendingbuttheMEhasmade the following preliminary findings. The autopsy revealed
no physicalfindings that support a diagnosis of traumatic asphyxia or strangulation. Mr.Floyd had
underlyinghealth conditions includingcoronary artery disease andhypertensiveheart disease. The
combined effects ofMr.Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlyinghealth conditionsand any
potentialintoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death.
The defendanthad his knee on Mr.Floyd's neck for 8 minutesand46 seconds in total. Twominutes and53
secondsofthis was afterMr.Floydwasnon- responsive. Policeare trained thatthis type of restraintwith a
subject in a prone position is inherently dangerous.

When will we see the other three officers charged? In any other situation the three standing around would have already been charged as accomplices.

A single arrest is insufficient and a slap in the face to Mr. Floyd, his family and poc.

DH was wondering the same thing today.

They should be charged.

The Minneapolis Police Department union intends on supporting Chauvin and the other police involved in the murder.

A 2007 lawsuit said the president of the Minneapolis police union wore a 'white power' patch on his motorcycle jacket and discriminated against officers of color

From the article:

"Earlier this week Kroll said that the union intends to support the officers involved.

"Now is not the time rush to judgment and immediately condemn our officers. An in-depth investigation is underway. Our officers are fully cooperating. We must review all video. We must wait for the medical examiner's report," Kroll said in a statement Tuesday. "Officers' actions and training protocol will be carefully examined after the officers have provided their statements."

The union president seems to be quite problematic himself - he didn't put his knee to George Floyd's neck, but he certainly helped to maintain a toxic culture within the force. Also, he's married to a prominent Minneapolis news anchor who has interviewed him on police brutality! The wife of the union president should not be commenting on police matters and he should not be interviewed by her imo.

Sickening. I don't understand this.

Australia’s track record on deaths in custody is again under scrutiny, as Aboriginal people whose family members have died in similar circumstances express solidarity with protestors on the streets of major US cities following the death of unarmed black man George Floyd.

The family of 26-year-old David Dungay, a Dunghutti man who said “I can’t breathe” 12 times before he died while being restrained by five prison guards, said they have been traumatised anew by the footage of Floyd’s death.

Dungay’s nephew, Paul Silva, said he has tried to watch the footage of the death of George Floyd, who died after a police officer knelt on his neck and whose death has sparked protests across the US, but had to switch it off halfway.

“When I heard him say ‘I can’t breathe’ for the first time I had to stop it,” Silva said. “My thoughts really go out to the family and everyone on the streets in the USA. My solidarity is with them because I do know the pain they are feeling.”

“And as for the Aboriginal deaths in our backyard … it’s not in the public as much as it should be.

Dungay is one of at least 432 Aboriginal deaths in custody since 2008, the Guardian’s latest analysis shows. There have been at least five deaths since Guardian Australia updated its Deaths Inside project in August 2019, two of which have resulted in murder charges being laid.

Trump flees to bunker as protests over George Floyd rage outside White House

...
As protests sparked by the death of George Floyd raged outside the White House on Friday night, Donald Trump was taken into a special secure bunker.
...
As protesters converged on the White House on Friday, the New York Times reports, “Secret Service agents abruptly rushed the president to the underground bunker used in the past during terrorist attacks.”

Hardened to withstand the force of a passenger jet crashing into the White House, the bunker is the same one that sheltered vice president Dick Cheney during the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. “The president and his family were rattled by their experience on Friday night, according to several advisers,” the Times report said.
Trump has been widely criticized for his response to the protests that have rocked the nation since video of Floyd’s death began spreading on social media.

snipped by me....

I need a timeline as to when they kneeled on him, but MOO was before 911.

from my notes:

police officer who held his knee on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes & 46 seconds (& non responsive for 2 minutes & 53 seconds before officer took his knee off his neck; from 8:19pm to 8:27pm his knee was on Floyd’s neck)

Just a FYI - Chauvin is still not in the court site....

This is good news. I thought DA Freeman was off in his comments and commmunication on numerous occasions regarding this case. Ellison is a better choice. This is a good move because it takes it out of any Minneapolis good old boy network or the appearance of a good old boy network.

MINNEAPOLIS — The prosecution of Derek Chauvin, the fired Minneapolis police officer who held his knee to George Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, resulting his his death, will be led by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison.
"We are going to bring to bear all the resources necessary to achieve justice in this case," Ellison said in a news conference.

The decision to put Ellison in charge of the case, announced Sunday night by Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, came on the same day Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo called what happened to Floyd a "violation of humanity."

George Floyd protests: State AG to take case, police chief apologizes

I just hope that whenever this goes to trial and if there's a conviction that it is something major as this cop deserves that for this awful act.

Especially with the charge only being 3rd degree murder as well as nothing done to the other 3 it seems you can see where the prosecution may be going with this case .

Here is a copy of the FD report:

FD received the alarm at 20:30:31 and arrived at 20:32:49. (Need to find out time that EMS arrived.)
