That looks close. But Jared has never said he recognized DAH as his abductor that I've heard of. FBI or LE would have certainly shown Jared a picture of DAH, if not an actual line up back when he was arrested, wouldn't they? Jared has stated he looked at lots of pictures. (Or if they didn't, he's seen this photo by now.)

Edited to add: Although, as ELOC explained, that picture was of a very young DAH, maybe he looked different in 1989.

Regarding that sketch....as per Joy's blog....Jared said the later, more commonly viewed sketch(with the baseball hat) most closely resembles his abductor. Anyone here know how to run the facial recognition software? I'm curious what results the later sketch would produce if run through this software.....

While walking near G&T Foods, a 12-year-old boy was asked if he wanted a ride, then asked if he wanted to go to “toyland”. The boy said “no” to both questions and continued walking. The suspect’s car was described as and old blue four-door, square in size."

I was at Fleet Farm in Waite Park/St Cloud on Tuesday and below the main Fleet Farm sign is a banner they hang up for the holiday season that says "Toyland Now Open". Is this the store and Toyland the perp was referencing to in 1986? and if so, St Johns is only down the road from this store about 6 to 10 miles. Do we have a priest from the abbey venturing to Paynesville?

Or the perp could have meant any generic "toyland".

Even if DAH was the one that did the attacks in Paynesville and/or Jared, how can we be sure that he switched up his MO and kidnapped a child? Was he just trying to get Jacob into the woods to molest him then let him go, but panicked when the police came? Was it another predator that knew DAH who heard of how easy it was to do and not get caught?

I still think DR saw the driver and will not tell police for some reason. His reactions and interviews seem odd, like he is sitting on info and is watching what he is saying. He is only digging his own hole deeper. Someone who has the answer better speak up. We are talking about a child's life here (now adult if he is still alive).

DAH to me from the one picture we have looks to have dark hair, not smooth skin and a larger nose. It could have grown as he got older with alcoholism or rosacea. My father has rosacea. It makes the nose look bulbous (large, round and red).

That would be my main reference, and I guess also, what Jared said on "The Hunt" from CNN, which I have recorded. As I remember, his main description then was that the guy was 'about the same size as Jacob's abductor, same low-raspy voice, and similar demeanor' - that's pretty much what he said. I think the size is pretty interesting because, he says 5' 8" between 180-190 lbs; Trevor said Jacob's abductor was about the same size as Merle Jerzak; who then stated he was 5' 10" 195 lbs.

Seems to me that it wouldn't be completely impossible for Jared to get an idea from seeing an early pic of DAH, or whoever, but, couldn't be conclusive. I would however expect that he's probably been able to view other pics of DAH, which would be closer in time to 1989, or, however close they could get. I know he's stated that he's seen a lot of pics. I think that even back then, and since then, they've run pretty much every suspect by him; to whatever extent, I'm not certain, but, I believe he's been pretty involved in reviewing suspect photos.

No, and I dont think it is dah. When Jared sees his perp he will know.

DAH is a convicted criminal. His mugshot has to be on file in the counties where he has been arrested.

He is in a medical type facility now-- Moose Lake State Hospital which probably has HIPPA laws.

But his arrests earlier have nothing to do with being in Moose Lake now.

Is there anyone who can go to the counties and ask for the public info of his mugshot?

Im sure Jared has seen them, and thats really what matters. We cant say it was or not, only he can.

Jared said in The Hunt i think it was that he was pretty certain who his perp was. Maybe it was DAH and they just can't get him to talk about Jacob or admit any part in it. There is a lack of scene evidence so a confession is the only way. Perhaps LE are pretty sure he's their man but can't prove anything without his co-operation. Hence the appeals to the public hoping to reach someone who DAH might have talked to or who might have noticed strange behaviour after the abduction. Maybe he meant to let him go but something happened or as he was arrested shortly after maybe Jacob was being kept somewhere and with the arrest of DAH meant noone to free him or feed him.

I think that is the case too. Jared said he knows who it it and I gathered from that that he thinks it is DAH but he is currently locked up.

To answer your question - I think that Joy is doing a great job of finding and talking to people who were victims of the Paynesville area assaults, and there really is no need for me or anyone else to duplicate those efforts.

I've started out focusing on newspaper research exclusively, and when that was done I branched into wherever that has taken me over the last couple of years. They say that "luck" is where preparation meets opportunity, and I can honestly say I've come across some "luck" that I probably would not have recognized if I hadn't paid attention to what would otherwise be considered irrelevant information.

It's certainly been an interesting journey - and I can promise the book will be the most comprehensive and complete review of this story anywhere, except for what's in the files of the Stearns County Sheriff's office! Speaking of which, I've found quite a lot of previously unknown information along the way - and it does get forwarded to put into those very same files!

Good question about destroying evidence in cases where the Statute of Limitations has expired. I don't know, but, I'd expect that they probably do, at least at some point. I also don't know if there's any DNA evidence from Jared's case, but, if so, I know the investigators in Jacob's investigation involved Jared early on, and continued so, the sketch they have used for Jacob's case, is the one that they put together with Jared, after Jacob's abduction. So, I'd expect that if there were DNA evidence from Jared's case, that it would have been maintained.
