Here's my theory for the time being: There was a man who had a sexual desire for boys of a certain age-- very young teens to be specific. The vast majority of the time he was able to "manage" these feelings, probably via other means (use your imagination.) But he had a problem. When he imbibed, his inhibitions decreased and his sense of confidence increased such that on a few occasions, he sought out and succeeded in fulfilling his desires. How did he do this? Well, he was more than likely in a position to observe kids in this age range on a regular basis. He probably felt attracted to a certain type of young man and fantasized about how he would abduct and molest a boy. I imagine it's possible this person alternated between feeling in control of his lust and then feeling like consequences be damned (i.e. when drinking perhaps). He may also have loathed himself for these thoughts as well, which would have added to his need to self medicate with alcohol or ?. Meanwhile, he watches his potential interests and may well have interacted with them, but not so much that he had a real relationship with them. What did Jacob and Jared have in common, besides being close in age and appearance? What activities might they have participated in within the community that may have brought them into contact with this man? They both described a "raspy voiced" man. Did Jared describe the man as having a "pot belly?" People who regularly overindulge may have this physical attribute, often referred to as a "beer belly." But, just having a less than perfect shape does not mean the perpetrator wasn't active. Many people who enjoy sports and other physical activities can have the issue of overindulging -- and the physique is affected, especially the older one gets. Other thoughts -- who needs to "get to an appt. at the Red Carpet club?" Someone who is applying for a position as a DJ perhaps? Who applies for that kind of position, what kind of background might they have? What kind of clientele does the Red Carpet Club attract? Did they ever feature nights for gay customers? Did/does the club attract a younger clientele? Would this venue offer the perp an opportunity to at least be around younger men? Working at a club, he might also be able to have a few drinks during his breaks. What other "appointment" might it have been if not a DJ gig or job interview? How thoroughly were employees at the Red Carpet checked out? Can dots be connected between someone who was frequently around younger boys, whether in a coaching or teaching or some other capacity, and the Red Carpet club? Is there someone with a noticeably raspy voice who might fit the description of the forensic sketch of the man wearing the baseball cap? This person spoke to Jared in a way that indicated he may have had experience interfacing with young people, (i.e. it's okay to talk about this), but on the other hand, "do you recognize me?" As has been mentioned, maybe Jacob's answer was yes, I've seen you at ______ , or, "I think I've seen you at ________). Remember Jacob's Dad saying he felt a disturbing feeling at the hockey rink, so much so that he began scouring the area until he saw his son? To me that is rather striking. What dots might LE and the FBI have connected? Would there be a reason why they found someone who was at the center of the puzzle pieces but were unable to charge him for lack of adequate evidence? Where did this possible suspect go? Has this person now been lost to time and if so, why? Because he is not guilty or because he's the one that got away? If you wanted to get out of dodge and away from the scene of the crime, what would you do? Would you make every effort to eliminate as many clues about yourself as possible? Did the sexual assaults on young boys in the area decrease after Jacob Wetterling was taken? Perhaps that was the pivotal event for this possible suspect -- from there, he might have had to slowly but surely slink his way out of that area, but not before having a plan and making sure everyone knew he had good reasons for leaving a place where he lived for so long. "Guess what guys, I'm leaving because I've got this new gig I'll be doing in ____________." And who knows, perhaps the perp eventually returned to a location in or near his old stomping ground once the heat died down. By this time he would be much older -- too old to exert himself mentally and physically to target and abduct young boys. Or he decided it wasn't worth the risk anymore, and might find satisfaction via the internet. Are these crimes connected? Raspy voice, do you know me (or mask on face so you can't see me), within a fifty mile radius (I think), boys close to same age and same "look." And I wonder, did Jared ever see those early suspects? No I don't think so. What if I took a face and put a baseball cap on it and animated with the same kind of raspy voice, then I connected all the aforementioned dots, and asked the Wetterlings if they had ever seen this man and Jared whether he looked like that perpetrator from so long ago? I am already setting aside money in order to purchase ELOC's book and be able to donate copies to libraries in the community. If nothing else, someone may still be there that reads this book and has this "ah ha" moment. And this person might able to provide that additional critical piece to the puzzle that confirms what might have already been suspected so long ago. The long passage of time would not be able to vanquish the power of truth in all its glory.
