MN - Jamar Clark, 24, shot by LE, Minneapolis, 15 Nov 2015

IMO you don"t just show up to a protest you're not involved in with a weapon unless you're planning on using it. What about this protest interested them? Why did they need guns?

Hey, they were just guessing that their biased interpretation of the 2nd amendment meant that it somehow trumped the 1st amendment.

As per your final question -- well, don't people need guns for every situation? Like, let's say that you're an obstetrician in a hospital. Wouldn't you want a gun in the event that someone came into the room with a gun?

Monday night shooting - Hispanic guy released. One arrested (white). Two others voluntarily surrendered. More could be involved. Apparently, they were being chased. More to come, I'm sure.

There's a tweet making its way around that shows a picture of one of the victims with his leg wrapped up, but back with the protesters tonight anyway. It's not tweeted by msm so unofficial for now.

They came to a protest with firearms, and shot the protesters. That's a direct attack on first amendment rights, imo. I hope they're charged with committing an act of terror.

Wondering if all three suspects have conceal and carry licenses and if that will make a difference.

Social media offering picture of men who went to protest 'locked and loaded'

In the glow of a vehicle’s interior light, the YouTube video shows two masked men as they cruise down Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis one night last week. The driver, who identifies himself as “SaigaMarine,” doesn’t hesitate to make his agenda clear.

“We are locked and loaded,” he says, holding up a black 1911-style pistol. As he flashes the gun, he explains amid racial slurs that the men are headed to the Black Lives Matter protest outside Minneapolis’ Fourth Precinct police headquarters. Their mission, he says, is “a little reverse cultural enriching.”

The man, who bears a striking resemblance to the masked “SaigaMarine,” also displays an affinity for firearms. On a cache of a now-deleted Instagram page, he describes himself as a former Marine infantryman and Iraq war veteran, as well as a firearms model and supporter of the Second Amendment.

He also appeared to be well-known on /k/, a popular weapons message board on the website 4chan where racist comments are sometimes posted. There, he was known as SaigaMarine, among other monikers, and news of his arrest reverberated among the anonymous users.

A county prosecutor in Minneapolis says it will be up to a grand jury whether to bring criminal charges against police officers in the fatal shooting of a black man.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman issued a statement Tuesday after repeated requests by black activist groups to make the decision himself rather than go to a grand jury. Protesters have said grand juries are unlikely to indict police officers.

http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2015/11/24/prosecutor-jamar-clark-case-will-go-to-grand-jury/

I think that is the right choice. Unlike the shocking arrogance of Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby in Baltimore.

Glad to see this msm article is FINALLY describing the situation as a "confrontation", rather than the highly inflammatory, and possibly inaccurate, "police shoot an unarmed black man" rhetoric. I'd like to see a LOT more responsible reporting, with more accurate and unbiased language.

Hennepin County Grand Jurors serve a term of 4 months, and usually meet once a week on Thursdays. I am hopeful the prosecutor will use the GJ that is already seated and working together, so that there can be no complaints that a special GJ was seated for this case that is already tainted by the news reports.

Grand Juror
If you are summoned to serve as Grand Jury, we are not able to postpone the date. If you must be excused, you must complete the questionnaire, make your request to be excused in writing, and send them both in the postage paid return envelope.

In Hennepin County, the Grand Jurors usually meet each Thursday at 8:45 a.m. over a four-month period. Occasionally, your business may be completed in a half day; sometimes you may be required to appear two days in a given week.

They for sure needed weapons to protect themselves if they were going to encounter the crowd of protestors.

Calls for day of mourning as Jamar Clark's funeral is held

http://www.startribune.com/calls-for-day-of-mourning-ahead-of-jamar-clark-s-funeral-today/353729711/

The Minneapolis Urban League and Jamar Clark’s family are asking for protests to be put on hold Wednesday for the funeral of the 24-year-old black man fatally shot by police.

“The family of Jamar Clark has been traumatized by the violent manner of his loss, the absence of information or explanation for the shooting and the challenge of navigating their grief amid the glare of media attention and among competing political agendas,” Steven Belton, the league’s interim president, said in a statement. “They have called for peace and a cessation of protests for Jamar’s sake and the safety of the community.”

Even if they did it will not matter. As a licensed person involved in a shooting you #1 call LE and #2 call your attorney. You do not run. You do not hide. Unless you've done something wrong.... (yes, I know people don't always do what you're supposed to do - just sayin'). MOO

Remember the famous saying about how a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich if the prosecutor asks them to? I can't help but think of that cliche in cases like this.

Officer involved in Jamar Clark's death sued 10 days before shooting

http://www.fox9.com/news/54787087-story

"Next, according to the complaint, Schwarze “removed the cartridge from his Taser, held the trigger down, and delivered drive stuns” multiple times to Hanson. The suit says the “Taser may be operated in ‘drive stun’ mode and used as a pain compliance tool.”

Court records show Hanson was convicted of seat belt violations."

What about this case makes you think of that cliche? I would think that a prosecutor that thought a case wasn't strong enough to charge himself would not present a strong case to the grand jury.

Hodges, Ellison call for end to Black Lives Matter vigil outside 4th Precinct
Meanwhile, felony charges were filed against 4 men suspected of being involved in the wounding of five activists with gunfire.

http://www.startribune.com/charging...g-of-black-lives-matter-protesters/358855091/

"Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges on Monday called for an end to the Black Lives matter encampment outside the North Side police precinct headquarters that has entered its third week since a black man was fatally shot by police a few blocks away."

"Jailed since early last week in the wounding of five activists on Nov. 23 at the encampment on Plymouth Avenue are Allen L. Scarsella III, 23, of Bloomington; Nathan Gustavsson, 21, of Hermantown, Minn.; Daniel Macey, 26, of Pine City, Minn.; and Joseph M. Backman, 27, of Minneapolis.

Scarsella was charged in Hennepin County District Court with one count of second-degree riot while armed and five counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. The others were charged with the same riot count as Scarsella. All four have a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday."

This article implies the others were armed but didn't use their weapons. I wonder if that's true. JMO

I don't get this Scarsella fellow - he spends a few days setting up this shooting and pulling it off, leaves an electronic trail a mile long that any 12 year-old could follow, then scrambles to try and cover it up by trying to get his girlfriend to take his weapons/ammo, calls a friend in LE and a lawyer.

He should have called his LE friend and lawyer while planning this shooting. He'll know better next time. Jmo.

Conflicting accounts: What happened the night Jamar Clark was shot?

"When the Minneapolis police got out of the car, they each took an arm. They arrested him, put him on the ground. The EMS commander put his knee on [his] chest. ... And as soon as as he put his knee on his chest all you hear was the gunshot.

"We saw the man get shot. Smoke came out of him. Blood came up."
...

"This morning at 12:45, officers in the 4th Precinct were called to an assault call, which was quickly changed to a help call, as a suspect involved in the assault confronted paramedics.

"When officers arrived, there was a confrontation and struggle. Preliminary information shows that the man was not in handcuffs. During the struggle, an officer discharged a weapon.
...

But Kroll's third-hand description of a defiant and potentially armed Jamar Clark differs fundamentally from that of several people who say they saw what happened.

"They had the guy pinned down on the ground. This guy wasn't fighting. He wasn't kicking. He was perfectly still, laying on the ground."

...

From her nearby porch, Keisha Steele said she saw Clark's hands behind his back when the shooting took place. Nekelia Sharp — host of the party where it all started — said she also saw a subdued Jamar Clark.

"This young man was in handcuffs," she said. "He did not resist. There was not a struggle and no question was asked."
