a friend of mine used to live in a condo in the loop. she moved out to Stillwater because she was tired of the crime moving in from outside her hood.

at night I feel far more safe in New York City than downtown Minneapolis or Uptown area. I think nothing of walking blocks at night (not real late) in Manhattan but would never ever do that here in Minneapolis. I fully understand why people are moving out to smaller towns.

Their windows were down. Surely she wasn't just walking up quietly behind the car and then smacking it. I'm sure she was calling out to them and they had to have heard her.

remember they were moving...not just sitting in one spot...if she approached from behind I think it very plausible that she hit the car to get their attention to stop and talk to her. She may have called out to them but again we sure need an honest accounting from Hannity.

If she called out to them, what would she say? She did not know their names. Something like, "Hey" ?

I'm scared of police, so I say, "excuse me, please, officer?" in my scared meek voice

I'm not buying this story that Justine banged on the squad car. It doesn't add up. It's a BS story made up by the union gustapo. JMO

I understand ambushes are a real threat, etc but these are trained professionals are expected to NOT be jumpy enough to randomly open fire when startled. You're supposed to assess the situation, not shoot first and hope it was a criminal later. WTF that this is even an acceptable excuse for some.

before this story had i been as concerned as Justine seemed to be per the 911 call and I saw the people that could help heading away I too may have tried to get their attention anyway I could which may include hitting the car...then yelling...but after this no way. It could have been an impulsive action without much thought...just trying to find out what they had found. I guess I don't see where the story is that hard to buy. It is not a defense at all nor should be considered one by the union but who knows.

I totally agree that it is unacceptable. He should have taken that split second to make an assessment.

I hate to say it, but I don't think the academies are getting as qualified or as well suited candidates as they used to receive.

Not as many top notch young people are drawn to the field of Law Enforcement anymore and I can't blame them.

Local media here at this point are reporting that Justine hit the squad car....for me this is so plausible....sit in your car and have someone bang on it....that sound is magnified and frankly I have been startled by just such a sound. She was "passionate" as her future step son said right away that next day...she was upset at the sounds she was hearing...enough to call her fiance and at his suggestion call 911 not once but twice...and then as they got to the end of the alley...by all accounts the officers had not made any contact with her and appeared to be leaving she approached the car from the back and banged it merely to get their attention. Most officers would just have stopped and spoke with her but for whatever reason I think at least one of these officers decided that shooting was the way to communicate. Not sure if she even got any words out to Harrity before killed.

This is an awful tale but a cautionary one for the public...simply don't go near officers. . I just read on a neighborhood forum that last night some heard 2 sounds which could be fireworks or gun shots. A few weeks ago these people may have called 911 to have it checked out but last night they did nothing...I wonder why??? I look for an uptick in crime given people are too scared to call 911.

JMO, I think it's highly implausible. It took them over 2 weeks to come up with this excuse after multiple attempts to smear her reputation in public.

These guys are lying. If they make this accusation, they had better be prepared to prove it. Proof, evidence.

I'm calling their members of Congress tomorrow and begin demanding a Federal investigation. Fed up with crooked, violent cops.

I think it's the training. I think the instruction they are receiving is to shoot first ask questions later. Make sure everyone knows who is boss. JMO

And don't worry, the unions will always, always have your back

I think he had more than a split second. I think he had already seen her and knew who she was. She may have asked them why they were leaving without investigating the case.

He shot her because he was angry at her for being an "uppity" woman who dared question his authority. That's why he already had his gun out. He was already angry with her.

He could see her perfectly well, there was sufficient light in the alley. He could hear her voice, the car window was open as she called out to them. He deliberately killed her in a fit of anger. His own neighbors say he has problems with women.

Arrest the guy and let him prove his defense in court. I don't believe anything he says.

I don't think that is what they are being taught. In LA they are taught the opposite these days.

"Don't shoot cuz we don't have your back."

That^^ is what our academy is teaching. And that is why a lot of cops want to get off the streets.

Perhaps there would be more top-notch new people coming into work for them if their ranks weren't full of a bunch of paranoid, trigger happy racist authoritarians with anger management issues. Who would want to work with a group of people like that every day?

I disagree. They're teaching them something wrong, and it's not how to not shoot people.

They always have each others' backs. It's ridiculous how easy a cop walks away from killing someone.

And any idea why a group of people would become paranoid, trigger happy and angry? Could it be a reaction to the events they experience on the job, day after day?

The question is - do they want to attract and hire top notch people, or are they fine with how things are?

wow...as much as I want Noor to be charged with manslaughter....and hope he is...this statement is quite drastic and I guess I find it more difficult to believe that he had the time to make an assessment on Justine's character and was angry with her...for what? Just being there or being alive? This is a big leap and even the family of Justine would probably not pursue a case based on a theory like this that could NEVER be proved.

i agree on recruitment ..Noor got $20/hour to go out and risk his life for starting pay and reportedly is now getting $28/hour ...again with risks for them getting worse every day...not surprised that they are not getting recruits. To be honest I would not want a family member out there today.

They're teaching them military-style, enemy combatant tactics. They teach them to shoot first and if the person is innocent, they teach them how to cover it up. I think this was already established a year or two ago during previous shooting incidents where innocent people were victims.

I proposed that several days ago as a possibility before it was thrown out in the media

"Cops drive into the alley with at least one window rolled down to investigate. They don’t hear anything so they decide to drive around to the front where I presume the front door is, to speak to the caller. Damond sees this from the alley and thinks they may me leaving so she either approaches the car or even knocks on the window or fender. When she get close to or at the window the officer who is already concerned about his safety since he has his gun drawn panics and shoots."
