His life is every bit as important, but that is a risk of the job, which he knew well even before he joined the force. She was taking no such risks, and was killed by the very person she had called on to help someone.

She was taking a risk by going outside into a dark alley in the middle of the night, where she heard a crime taking place.

Excellent comment. Totally agree!!

So we should judge someone who is doing a dangerous public service, and makes a deadly mistake in a split second, MORE HARSHLY than someone who kills a cop because they are running from a crime?

You have no idea how long she was out there. She probably went out when she saw the police car and felt it was safe to venture out.

You're also sort of expected to talk to the Officers about what you've seen/heard.

They have your phone number and your address.

"If he messes up like that" involves an innocent civilian dying. He didn't like, run over his partner's foot with the patrol car.

Ooopps, sorry, I messed up, except that he hasn't even said that.

No instead they searched her home and questioned if she were on Ambien, insinuating she might be responsible for her own death at the hands of an admittedly jumpy police officer whose family has said "struggled with the stress" of his job.

Can someone tell me what Ambien is?

Sleep medicine. It might be called Zolpidem in Australia. Or maybe Stilnox.

Yep. Stilnox here. It would not be prescribed for young healthy people where I live. One of our Olympic swimmers had an addiction to it, after he stopped competing and no one could understand why he was prescribed it in the first place. It turns out that he wasn't prescribed it and bought it in Asia when you used to be able to buy prescription drugs by pointing to them like in an old fashioned lolly shop (candy store).
Justine was into yoga and meditation, there would be no way that she would be using that.

I am not saying Justine used Ambien. Many people do. I know people, who do yoga that use illegal as well as legal drugs.

It's very controversial - a lot of issues with it but it also works really well. Maybe too well. I think a hockey player was addicted to it too. It can be dangerous, but it's a popular medication. I've had a prescription for it and it worked better than anything else I've tried for sleep.

Honestly when they searched her home I assumed it was one of the drugs they'd be looking for.

As far as i am aware Justine made a call to LE twice as to what she thought was a possible crime in an alley where she lived because she heard screaming, and wasn't really sure about why someone was screaming.
I don't really know why she went outside and slapped a police vehicle to get their attention when she told dispatch her concerns previous to that. The reason we call LE is for them to check out the situation, but Justine went out to talk to them and i really don't know why because she ended up being shot.
When i lived in Florida with my husband an elderly lady across the street was the victim of a robbery by 3 teens. LE were all over the street, but i let them deal with it, and one LE did come to my front door to ask if i had seen or heard anything. I did see 3 teens run toward the main road but wasn't aware they were casing houses to rob. So gave the police officer the info. of what i saw. I guess everyone reacts differently to these situations and i am very sad that Justine died because of her actions in trying to help someone.

But even if they found it, what would that mean? It is not illegal to take sleeping tablets or go out into the back lane after taking legal medications. The problem with our ex Olympian was that he was taking Stilnox and alcohol. And we was not just taking it to sleep, he was taking it day and night.

People taking Ambien have had some issues. I know of a man who ran a red light and killed someone. It does affect people.

Just like with Philando, there is the push to see if the victim can be blamed.

I don't know for sure. It's a medication that causes weird reactions sometimes, even when it's taken as prescribed, and it can cause amnesia too. So... maybe there was never anyone yelling in the alley and maybe she was erratic and aggressive when she approached the vehicle. I mean, they'd have to prove she had taken it, I guess, but even if they could say she had a prescription and MIGHT have taken some everyone is familiar with the crazy stuff people have done on Ambien.

IMO it's was like a crap shoot or something for them, hoping they would get lucky with the search warrant.

BBM, Seems to happen in every case where there is a deceased person and defense attorney's do their job to try and get a defendant off the hook, IMO

It's not even a known fact that Justine was prescribed and taking Ambien to my knowledge.

Not sure where the idea was proposed
