GUILTY MN - Madeline Jane Kingsbury, 26, mother of 2, Winona, 31 Mar 2023 *arrest* #2

In the video, investigators also pointed out Fravel’s interest in the Gabby Petito murder, a case where a young woman was reportedly killed by her abusive partner.

“You’re infatuated with the Gabby Petito case. Your words. My biggest fear right now is that this is mimicking that case. The guy that is infatuated with it is sitting right in front of me. And he is doing a really a good job of keeping it together and I’m not buying it,” the investigator stated.

Maddie's family will have the opportunity to give victim impact statements at the Dec 17 sentencing hearing.
Will it be televised?

There are hundreds of files related to the case, and ABC 6 will go through all of them. On Monday, we will have a full report detailing the newly released evidence.

One message from Kingsbury to a friend reads, “After he joked about me ending up like gabby petito (sic) if I don’t learn to ‘mind’. It wasn’t funny…Do you think my kids will be okay?”

Other evidence includes surveillance video of Fravel, showing him changing the license plates on Kingsbury’s van, and follows him on the journey from Winona to Mabel, where Kingsbury’s body was discovered in June.

A judge has granted media outlets, including FOX 9, the ability to live stream the hearing.

FOX 9 will stream the entire hearing. It is slated to be held at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday in Winona County.

@PommyMommy - they are streaming the sentencing hearing!

Fravel’s first-degree murder conviction automatically earns him life in prison. Since prosecutors argued for an aggravated sentence during the pre-trial hearings, Fravel could also face other consequences.

Many of Kingsbury’s family members have plans to read victim impact statements at his sentencing December 17th.

KTTC will be there.

There is no joy in this case. Except for the joy in seeing AF shuffle out the door, bound in chains, to serve his life sentence.

As Maddi's stepmother, I believe, said it best:

He could have just walked away.

And in my words: miserable, insufferable, controlling, angry, evil lousy excuse of a man.

What a striking and vast difference to the kind, gracious, steady and loving collective force of Maddi and those who loved her most.

As her father closed:

Her name was Maddi.

She was loved.

Today's sentencing, begins at about 9 min.

Impact statements are so raw and moving.

I cried more than once...well tbh I'm a woman so I cried from the minute it began.

Then I saw his blank face and heard his words. What an ugly psychopath that slab of flesh is.

May her children thrive and have happy lives and may they never have to see that black souled, empty of any humanity, sack of flesh ever again.

My heart is broken that yet another bright light in this world was extinguished by a soulless monster.

In a Winona courtroom on Tuesday afternoon, Kingsbury’s family members described the profound loss they continue to feel at her absence. Kingsbury's mother, Krista Hultgren, was the first to give a victim impact statement.

“Madeline’s kids will grow up without their mommy, and we go on as best as possible without our daughter, sister, friend and aunt. The wake he has left is far reaching and hardly slows to a ripple. It will never be still,” Hultgren said.

“The children in our family don’t get to walk through their young lives shrouded in a cloak of childhood innocence anymore. It was ripped from each of their tiny shoulders — stomped on, shredded, destroyed,” Waterston [Maddi's step-sister] said.

Kingsbury was supposed to be maid of honor at the wedding of her sister, Megan Hancock.

“I didn’t want to get married without her, but that choice was made for me by somebody else,” Hancock said. “That’s one of the worst parts is that we have no choice. Madeline is gone. Every holiday, every special event, every milestone, we have no choice — we have to carry on without her.”

David Kingsbury also described a sickening confrontation in court after Fravel's arrest.

"We were engaged in a very public and hotly contested court battle with Fravel for custody of Maddi's children," Kingsbury recounted. "Though he was finally arrested and charged with her murder, this litigation continued. Moments before a video hearing began, the courts camera was live. He noticed we were on the video feed, locked eyes with my wife and I, and smirked at us. Smirked. At that moment, his true nature revealed: resolute cruelty and pure evil. For me, certain proof that he killed Madeline, proof he was glad he did it, and proof that he derived great pleasure from the carnage, destruction, and grief he's caused. His only regret was being held accountable."

"Each morning my mind painfully readjusts to the realization that it's not just a bad dream. Madeline is still really dead and Adam Fravel killed her," said David Kingsbury.

I'm relieved this portion of the nightmare is over for Maddie's family. Listening to them give their VIS today in court was gut wrenching. But I did experience a degree of satisfaction, in the few glimpses I caught of Fravel - I noted the redness of his face. Giving away his discomfort at having to sit in the courtroom and listen to what Maddie's family had to say.

When asked by the Judge if he had anything to say. Fravel answered, "Very Briefly. I never caused harm to Maddie and I am innocent, thank you". He was convicted of 1st Degree Murder-Premeditated. Never caused harm? Not a very strong denial. Maybe he's saving it for the appeal hearings.

His demeanor and answer to the Judge's question, showed a glimpse of his narcissism. It must have been torture for him during the trial, where he had no control. Nor will he ever again, he will have to obey the rules and commands of others for the rest of his entire life. He'll have a brief respite during his appeal - then away he goes, never to be heard or seen again!

Megan said - Maddie's light will live on. Never to be forgotten, never to be extinguished.
