MN - One dead after Minneapolis shooting involving immigration agents, US media report, January 24, 2026

What I'd like to know is, why did it appear in the video that the ICE officer who shot him just walked away?

  • #42
The shooter was a Border Patrol Agent and the deceased individual was waving a gun around.
Could you please point out the part in the article that says the deceased was "waving a gun around"?

TIA.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune has named the person shot dead by the federal authorities this morning as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37, from south Minneapolis.

The main newspaper of the city has cited sources they cannot name but who are “familiar with the investigation.”.

City police chief Brian O’Hara earlier said the man, whom he did not name, had no serious criminal history and a record that showed parking tickets.

The Guardian has not independently received confirmation of the victim’s identity but we are monitoring all legitimate news sources closely and making inquiries and will bring you the news as it develops.

Please show me a video of the man who was shot waving a gun around. Or even show me where he was reaching for a gun at any point.
I was not there. I don't have any footage to show. I am reading news from a site approved source. Plus, very few are filming from before anyone sees something going on until the end of said event.

Then show me in any article that he was “waving a firearm” around. I’ll take a quote from any article you can find. Even the DHS statement never says he was waving a gun around.

Video from bystanders rarely runs from before event time until the event is over. Please tell the videographers.

Your exact quote, BMM. Nowhere in the article does it state that the murdered man was "waving a gun around".
Please correct CBS then.

I can point out the part where the police chief says we don't know what happened prior to the start of filming. That's why I don't put a lot of stock into videos of incidents. No one starts filming until something has already hapoened. And they generally don't film to the end of the event either. IMO.

In the second video floating around (no MSM link yet that I could find) it looks like he tries to protect the woman that the agents are shoving, they both get pepper sprayed and shoved to the ground, then agents surround him and shoot him. Nowhere does he brandish a weapon in the videos I have seen.

It’s not in MSM yet but there are many many other videos coming out of the incident so I think the truth will be shown soon enough on what happened before and during this event. I will wait until I have a MSM approved video to post here.

Yes the woman in pink who was filming very closely had her footage come out. I’m sure it will be in MSM soon. There is also a 2nd video I saw of another bystander who had their phone confiscated by ICE as soon as the shooting happened. They are forced into a brick wall corner and yelled at to give the officer their cell phone and then the video cuts out.

US federal law enforcement officials begin news conference

We're now hearing from federal law enforcement officials at a news conference.

First to speak is Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino.

We'll bring you the key lines here, but you can also follow along by pressing Watch live at the top of this page.

Border Patrol agent fired 'defensive shots', commander says

We're now hearing from Greg Bovino, Border Patrol commander.

He tells the press that this morning, an individual approached ICE agents with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The agents "attempted to disarm the individual but he violently resisted".

"Fearing for his life... a Border Patrol agent fired defensive shots," Bovino continues.

Medical aid was given straight away but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, he says.

The man had two loaded magazines and no accessible ID, he adds.

"This looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement," he says.

Officer involved in shooting 'highly trained', Bovino says

Bovino says the Border Patrol officer involved in the shooting today was "highly trained".

He does not give any details about the identity of the agent.

There is a still photo that shows both hands visible while he is still on his feet, being confronted directly. He has a phone in one hand; the other is empty. I hope it will be verified and in MSM soon.

Actually the woman in the pink coat who appears in the original video has uploaded her video and there is no time in her video showing that the deceased was being aggressive toward LE. And I use the term LE very lightly here because this is not policing.

Well, in this case, we don't have to plug our ears, make any assumptions, or be stupid or willfully ignorant, because the videos all clearly show the firearm being removed from its holster by an LEO-adjacent person, while the decedent was on the ground, before he is ever shot. It had never been removed or wielded by the decedent at any point.

Trump accuses local officials of inciting 'insurrection'

We've just heard from President Donald Trump, who accuses the mayor of Minneapolis and the governor of Minnesota of fomenting an "insurrection".

In a social media post, Trump shared an image of the pistol that federal officials say the suspect had.

"Where are the local Police? Why weren’t they allowed to protect ICE Officers? The Mayor and the Governor called them off? It is stated that many of these Police were not allowed to do their job, that ICE had to protect themselves — Not an easy thing to do!," he writes.

Without citing evidence, Trump accuses local officials of a "cover up" to hide theft and fraud.

He adds: "The mayor and governor are inciting insurection, with their pompous, dangerous and arrogant rhetoric... LET OUR ICE PATRIOTS DO THEIR JOB!"

Trump has repeatedly threatened to invoke the rarely used Insurrection Act to quell unrest over federal immigration enforcement in Minneapolis.

There are no public events on Trump's schedule today, but he is due to hold a closed-door screening of a documentary about his wife Melania this evening.

It doesn't help that the president constantly defends the brutality of ICE and BPD.

imo
