The father of a family who used to be in our home-school group is an RSO. His wife told me that it had to do with a plea bargain he took regarding an event with a girl-friend when he was in his teens. We don't do checks on the parents who join our group, but once the leaders found out about it, we realized our by-laws don't forbid it. The leaders decided the family could remain in membership, if they agreed to reveal to the other members about his status. I'd never even seen the guy, but once when I went with my children to a birthday party at their home, but the whole thing was an eye opener to how easily they can be out there. Although, to be honest, I think too many are required to register, and it makes it hard to know who the real threats are. This guy (Shawn Morgan) wasn't registered, and really didn't have a criminal history to speak of. No one can guess. But still, kids are actually statistically safer now than they were in 1950. True fact.

I believe his only other brushes with the law involve a tax lein and traffic tickets, as far as we know...there are some other Shawn Morgans with some other charges in Missouri and there was some confusion earlier, caused partly by me.

I know some may disagree but these crimes are so sickening....I think there should be an automatic death penalty for any adult that kills a child under 12 through abduction. Automatic...no other sentence to be given. I don't know if it will stop these types of crimes...but at least this person will never do this crime again.

If Breeann was able to fight, he might have bite marks or scratches on his arms.

I am a lurker I have been lurking here since Caylee went missing. I think I posted a couple times. I have to say that I was so sure it was the parents in this case. I feel terrible. Rip Breeann. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and the family of this monster.

A thought came to my mind about how to try and protect our children. Maybe WS can design a Bumper Sticker to put on everyone's vehicles "Don't Let Our Children Walk Or Play Alone" or something like that. I would put one on my car in a "heartbeat".

That's one of the problems I have with the laws and the registry's. I have a nephew (through my ex) who was convicted and is required to register. He had a 15 yr old girlfriend in high school. Only two years apart in grades but 3 in years and he is very immature. Her parents pressed charges. The girl testified for the defense and even admitted to a prior relationship but he was still found guilty. He is 30 now and they are married. Needless to say they don't have much to do with her family. There needs to be clarification on these things because it is becoming more common and these young guys should not be lumped in with pedophiles. They moved here to Washington and stayed with my son (who has two children) while they looked for a place of their own and LE came to my son and notified him of the RSO he had living with him. No clarification, just 'Do you know that you have an RSO living with you?'


and now on topic...I never once considered these parents to be involved, and was really hoping someone just wanted a child of their own. I am so sad that this has turned out this way. I didn't have much hope of her being okay at this point even if she was just lost. Iits been too hot and too long....

Parents, PLEASE take care of your children! This child should never have been left alone outside to play...or left with a 5 year old to watch her.

There it is. If he didn't have any "prior convictions" he would have stated so. Up thread where someone said there were two other "crimes" but it didn't state what they were - well, I'm willling to go out on a limb here and say I betcha they were "sex crimes".

I think they didn't say anything else about the details of the crime because they haven't recovered her yet. There still should be evidence.

I would too. Unfortunately, not all people feel the same way.
A good friend of mine believes in the whole "free range children" concept. She feels it is not an epidemic and tells me only 1% or 2% of children in the US go missing and are killed and that the media tries to instill fear in us all. She allows her kids to bike the huge housing development area (they're 6 and 9) unsupervised.
She tells me, SHE did it her whole childhood and she's not going to cage her kids
If "caging" my son means he won't be exposed to a tragedy like this, I'll do it tomorrow!

I wish Breeann wasn't out alone for a minute....
