It's funny isn't it? This statement from JP from weeks ago (even if its true) is ALSO super scary. imo.

"Phelps also told the deputy that at the end of July, Rainwater had left in the middle of the night and met with a vehicle at the end of the driveway and he had not seen or heard from her since."

?!!

Just to keep my sanity. It was Romantix, Lion's Den, and the obligatory " Shades" I came up with.

In no way implicating any establishment of any wrong doing. It was a "search".

Keeping in mind all along the victim of heinous crimes Cassidy and possibly more.

I'd call BS on that. If true he's a pimp. Pimps don't allow their means of money to go missing.

People do strange for change. This ain't what was happening here. IMO anyway.

Cassidy Rainwater. I'll keep saying her name. She has a favorite color. She enjoys a particular food best. She is a young woman. A person. A soul. She has dreams, regrets, good memories and bad.

Keep praying they find her. Pray someone catches a case and pleas. Anything.

Takes me there too. I did a deep dive on that lingerie shop, is that what is being discussed? Sorry to butt in mid-stream.
A good question.

I think the unusual number of adult emporiums given the size of the town was noted. A seemingly high number of sex offenders was also noted.

These elements then led to a discussion as to why these numbers existed. Two, or three possible explanations were given:

A. Some of the emporiums maybe closed- thus numbers not truly high.
B. Somehow, the area is a magnet for a disproportionate number of potential problem people.
C. People commute in from more rural areas for work and the area serves as a pit stop for truckers. Thus, number of customers for groceries or well, 🤬🤬🤬🤬 is higher than the population base.

I knew of a "B" town once where geography, an interstate and county policies attracted larger numbers of problem people. But..... I think explanation "C" as noted by @notaname is more likely.

Moo sex offenders are not so welcome any where. So they have few choices on rentals. Same for drug issues, same for mental health issues. So there is usually knowledge of where they can live. Moo

JMO, that's untrue. It's a story he made up to justify her disappearance, just like the stereotypical guy whose wife disappeared when she got up in the middle of a cold winter night to take a walk wearing no shoes or coat. That kind of thing.

Unfortunately, by the time LE got a search warrant for JP's "house", it had been stripped of any evidence related to Cassidy.

totally agree -

I think the point of what l was saying was not translated well - my bad.

I was trying to imply even his statement is creepy for me - imo - she leaves in the middle of the night in a car at the end of the driveway?

Ridiculous statement.

@Filly I think Norton is gonna sing like a canary to get a plea deal. Feels like JP is the leader and he was just along for the ride. Just the vibe l get. Jmo.

yes Cassidy Rainwater - l say her name till justice is served and then some.

From your lips to God's ear, I hope he does talk. That's why I was trying to check the local inmate rosters for the various county jails in the area. I'm hoping Dallas County is housing them in separate facilities - maybe one at their jail and the other in a neighboring county. They should also be keeping them isolated and making sure they don't pass any information to other inmates they know who can pass it along once they get out of jail. It's very important they're not coordinating stories or anything.

Same for any other potential suspects out there who might have been involved in the crimes at the property, even other victims.

Phelps is being held in Dallas County, and Norton in Greene County.

Thanks! I'm relieved to hear that. From their hearings the other day, it looked like they were in different facilities, but I wasn't sure. I still wish we could look up the local jail inmate rosters to see if other people are being arrested. Maybe wishful thinking, but I do hope they're talking.

I'd also love to know who set the crime scene on fire and rigged up explosive devices.

Their next hearings are Nov. 5. Both are scheduled for 9:30 am, CDT, so assume that means they will both appear via video for the hearing.

Hopefully, enough testing will have been completed by then to allow the prosecutor to file more serious charges, enough to keep them in jail. With that kind of leverage, they should be able to get them to talk about other accomplices and possible victims.

I see how those come up in a search. However, places like Yelp usually give you a choice of mileage range when looking for "nearby" things. The first two that came up (Romantix and Lion's Den) are not in Lebanon, but are within 100mi (that's the typical range things like that go up to).

Romantix is in Springfield, 52.5 miles away from Lebanon. Lion's Den is in Waynesville, 26 miles away from Lebanon. The only adult store with an actual Lebanon address is 1.2 miles straight off of I-44 (important to note because of how busy that interstate is trucking-wise).

Lebanon itself has a population of roughly 14.7k. That's not really all that small compared to other actual small towns here in Missouri. I live in place that only has 1.2k pop, and we have to drive to the next county over just to get to the nearest Walmart in the nearest "city" which is 11.5k pop. That city doesn't have any adult stores, from what I can glean from a quick google. But here's the difference: my nearest city is a good half an hour drive off of the nearest interstate. Not a whole lot of non-local travel. Whereas Lebanon is right on I-44, and that's a HUGE truck route. And in all my travels, I've seen plenty of adult stores along major interstates where trucking traffic is high.

I just don't really think there's anything "off" about Lebanon in regards to adult stores. The number of sexual offenders, on the other hand? Sadly, not really surprised. This whole state is a nightmare SA-wise. My hometown (not where I currently live) has an insanely high per capita in rape. It's terrifying.

I agree @tinaalsgirl, it’s not odd that there’s an adult store in Lebanon. They are in many small towns that are near an interstate/truck route.

I don't think there's much correlation anymore between adult stores and sexual deviates. The internet made things like peep shows and adult movie theaters obsolete. Why pay for something you can see for free? Adult stores are now becoming a mainstream industry selling mostly toys and lingerie (How The 'Niche' Sex Toy Market Grew Into An Unstoppable $15B Industry).

The real deviates are doing their thing out among the shadows of the internet or on the dark net, which is arguably where CR's pictures first surfaced. I don't think there's any possible upside to this story, but if there was, I do kind of doubt these two guys are exactly Silicon Valley level types of sophisticates when it comes to covering their tracks on the internet. Hopefully they left some evidence LE can find to prosecute them and bring justice to this case.

There was mention in one of the early stories about one of them (Phelps?) going to a lingerie shop in Lebanon -- that's how the whole 'lingerie shop' thing got started here.

I think the lingerie shop discussion started here because there was another similar sex trafficking type case in the area that was tied to a local lingerie shop.

Yes. bringing the original post with links forward. I remember it but didn't even make it through the first article because, as forewarned, it was so disturbing. The lingerie shop is mentioned in the second article. I can't see how a lingerie shop plays more than a peripheral role. But the article also mentions strip clubs. There might be more of a connection there and/or maybe there's a network of extreme S&M types in that part of Missouri.
This was a few years ago, but for a small rural community to have multiple cases such as this sure makes me wonder. Needless to say, my hinky meter is all the way in the red.

From the link, which is a press release from the Western District US Attorney's office, who handled the arrests and prosecution of the parties involved in the 2013 sex trafficking case in Lebanon:

Stokes helped promote FV at the strip clubs. Stokes took photos of FV around to the clubs to promote her there. Stokes gave $1,000 so that FV could be taken for a sexual bondage photo shoot in California for Taboo magazine. Stokes then took a copy of the magazine to promote her at the clubs. The photos in Taboo magazine were extremely mild and did not depict any of the cruel sessions Stokes had witnessed at the residence.

The StL Post Dispatch article at the other link above reports about other ways the victim was trafficked in the 2013 federal trial. It's behind a paywall, but I recall it mentioned local sex shop where the man who enslaved VM took her to allow Johns to pay for sex with her. If anyone can read the article and copy that portion, it would be appreciated. Beware, both links contain graphic descriptions of torture.

Stokes and another man promoted the victim to other men online, at local strip clubs and at participating sex shops in the area. That's not to say all sex shops and strip clubs engage in this kind of business, but it does happen.

Has anyone mapped out the people connected to the 2013 case with Phelps and Norton? Any common addresses? Social media friends in common?

The cases do sound similar. It could be more than just a coincidence that both are in the same area.

Not that I'm aware of, but its a good idea. It seems very likely the perps involved in both of these cases know each other. JMO

Just to clarify, it would be good for an investigator to do this. On Websleuths, though, it's against the rules to sleuth anyone who hasn't been named a suspect by LE.
