***I didn't quote properly, but this response was in reference to the video someone posted of NG & GB in court***

I agree! NG does not sound particularly upset, but he can't seem to articulate his complete address properly without being prompted, and even then he seems a bit unsure. It's a bit funny/ironic since he mailed the knife back to his own house...Good thing he got the right address for that! :/

GB's sobbing makes me think of a scared little girl. It seems to indicate the possibility of stunted emotional/intellectual maturity (or perhaps wanting to give that impression in hopes of gaining sympathy). But I suppose being arrested, sitting in jail, and being charged with murder might make me sob too.

Scary! This story gets worse and worse! I saw his skype interview and I'm certain he said the mother fed the child poison to make her weak!

Yes he did. I had missed that story until today when I saw the link from human (thanks) post #540. In the blog (Gypsy Blancharde Thought Catalog) posting he didn't mention that Gypsy had been fed small amounts of poison. He did insinuate strongly that DB had been putting something in her stepmothers food.
It is very scary...if true.
The thing that puts me off about the cousin is how fast he came out with these stories. I doubt if LE had even had a chance to interview or speak with the family before he started posting to blogs and talking to media.
In the blog the only thing he said regarding Gypsy and food was that certain foods made Gypsy sick and DB wouldn't allow her to eat them.
He also mentioned that DB had certain ideas about food and would only eat potatoes. IMO

I think poison is clearly something he is speculating about, but now several family members described seeing Gypsy playing when Dee Dee wasn't around, but acting paralyzed when Dee Dee showed up. Also, eating potatoes only is clearly not healthy. It could lead to malnutrition. I wonder what Dee Dee was feeding Gypsy all these years.

Another green-horn question.....
DeeDee clearly misrepresented her daughters health for a perceived gain.
Do you think DeeDee believed her fabricated reality?

It simply boggles my mind.

I had that thought as well. She may have been overly concerned (mental issues) about Gypsy at first and then it just snowballed into using Gypsy for an income. Later in the game she knew she was scamming. IMO

I finally got up to page 60 something and someone mentioned Gypsy Lee Rose! I'd been waiting for that form the first time I heard about this case! Such a not so strange coincidence!!!

Anyhow, I see absolutely no reason why there can't be an overlap between malingering and Munchausen's. Why can't a person have a pathological need for attention along with a desire for the perks being a victim can bring, at the same time? I think Rachel Dolezal is an example of that as well as Kate Parker (did ya'll know she used to be a websleuther here and bashed Kyron Horman's mom all the time??).
I was thinking munchausen that warped into malingering possibly. Whatever it is it's scary!

I find it hard to believe Dee Dee was ever actually concerned about Gypsy. Did she ever tried to work? Her nephew says that even before Dee Dee started faking Gypsys's disabilities, Dee Dee was involved in credit card fraud, opening up credit cards in the names of her relatives, and lived off that for while.

No doubt DB was a scammer and con and used whatever means she could to get funds. I do see it as a possibility with GB being her only child that she started out after the accident being overly concerned that Gypsy was injured more than she was.
When she noticed that people were sympathetic she decided that she could use that for gain. IMO

I think she was trying to find out a way to make a living without actually working.
Sure sounds like Dee Dee was a very dishonest person with no concerns for others. She opened up credit cards in her relatives names, and lived off that, according to her nephew.
I don't believe she was actually concerned about Gypsy's well being. I think it's was just a way for her to make a living without having to work, after her credit card scam was discovered.

I think in this case nothing will be black and white. We may have some shades of grey. I think we will all be in for some surprises as information comes out. IMO

This is a small observation in the grand scheme of things, and I'm not sure it's been mentioned before, but I thought I'd bring it up.

In the photos of Gypsy we've seen since her arrest, especially her initial mug shot, I think she looks a bit cross-eyed or lazy-eyed (strabismus and/or amblyopia). Does anyone else think that? And of course she was wearing those horrid-looking glasses in the earlier pictures. I'm wondering if the eye issue (if there is one) could be indicative of a real underlying medical condition, underdevelopment, or genetic abnormality. Just something I thought of...but maybe her eyes are normal and I'm just reaching.

Are you somehow suggesting that persons with "lazy eye" are developmentally delayed? If so, please don't. I find it offensive being that I have had this condition my entire life. Stereotypes - ugh.

TIA

Thanks to insomnia, I got to read a fair amount about this case.
I have much more to learn and my head is totally spinning.

I am puzzled by Gypsy's voice and diminutive size. Has this been discussed?

Thx

It has been discussed. Some were concerned that Gypsy may have been denied to make her look small and frail. I don't have a lot of concern in that area because I am the same height as Gypsy and when I was her age I was also the same weight and under at times.
Without giving to much info about myself...I ate large quantities of high calorie food but was never able to get past a certain weight until my thirties.
It may be very normal for Gypsy to be the weight she is. It was for me during that age span.
Her voice could be an affectation or also normal for her. Not sure about that. IMO

No, she is suggesting that the lazy eye may be a sign of a more serious condition.

I did notice her eyes. For sure it looks as though she needed some sort of corrective lenses. IMO

  • #575
Could being forced to wear prescription lenses you don't need cause that? Genuine question.

No, she is suggesting that the lazy eye may be a sign of a more serious condition.

There are far more reasons to have this condition that have no developmental issues tied to them. It's fairly common! If you want to string three or more "symptoms" together and say it's a sign that something is wrong - fine, but I find it extremely distasteful to say (in essence) "She has a lazy eye, so she might be developmentally challenged." That would be like me saying, I noticed she is left handed, therefore she might be dyslexic.

See what I mean?

JMOO - again.

  • #577
Some of the smartest people I've known have lazy eye. I'm left handed but not dyslexic. But each of those "conditions" could be associated with something more serious in a small subset of the population. I think that's all the OP was wondering...specifically about Gypsy. On WS, we do look at all facets of the person we are considering and ask questions. I did not see a blanket statement about all people with lazy eye and I don't think anything was implied. JMO Statements we have strong feelings about are a good opportunity to kindly educate those posting. I've learned a lot here. :)

Does anyone have any theories about why the neighbor couldn't find DB? I have about five theories...some more gruesome than others.
I suppose it could be as simple as the bedroom door was locked. One of my theories.
Wonder what was in the four spray bottles (taken as evidence) or were they empty.

Either he was too nervous/polite to go in the bedroom or door was locked. Long odds that the cops told him not to say anything, though one wonders why Dee Dee was reported missing and the announcement of the discovery of her remains came later if this is the case.

During an interview, LE said they knew why the neighbor couldn't find Dee Dee but couldn't say. Interesting. IMO
