Take note that video report at the above tweet states that when DG (falsely) reported found in Columbia, that DG's Father was "released from JCPD" (Jefferson City Jail??), and on his way to Columbia to pick him up.

While we know the sighting of DG in Columbia was not true -- this statement about Dad's release conflicts with earlier reports that Dad was working out of town. MOO
What???? Dad was in jail? For what? Oh my what a cluster! Poor little guy!

I believe the Dad was just there being questioned not under arrest.

I agree. It's normal for LE to have parents in for questioning, and it doesn't necessarily mean the parents are involved, only that they need questioning to learn more about the child and people involved in the child's life or friends and acquaintance of the family.

I can't see anyone being released from jail to go on that wild goose chase to another city to pick up a missing child.

No public appeal, and Dad not present at presser, and reporter's choice of words i.e., "Father released from JCPD" raised my hinky. He very well could have been at PD for questioning only. MOO

Haven't any relatives made a public appeal? I would have thought they might just to help get the public looking out, especially without the Amber alert a parent making an appeal might help to get a bit more attention?

I see there's a lot of public interest and people wanting to search, I just mean that the more eyes looking out and searching their yards, garages, sheds etc, the better.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. Jefferson City Police hope the public can help locate a missing four-year-old, Darnell Gray.

Gray wandered away from his home during the night or possibly early Thursday morning. His parents were out of town and he was being watched by a guardian. [BBM]

The child is 3' 10" tall and weighs about 50 pounds. He was reported missing along with his coat, hat, gloves, backpack, two juice boxes and some cookies from the home. [....]

Nope, I wished he had wandered away. But I don’t think so. IMO

Respectfully snipped for focus.

One of the most difficult issues for LE in a time like this especially if a divorce or child custody case comes into play is that vital information is in Family Court and is not easily accessible right away. They have to rely on what the parents are saying. When the parents don't get along in the first place the child is in the crossfire, and therefor LE trying to protect the child. Most LE has children of their own making it harder for them to sympathize with dysfunctional parenting.

I'm having a *really* hard time wrapping my head around this one.

*FOUR year old packs some snacks and hits the road without detection
*Some relative associated with the four year old reports he has been found! News stations report the good news and rejoicing abounds!
*Shortly thereafter, we are told this was a false alarm, child still missing
*Father is in jail? Father is in for questioning?

This is nuts.

Amateur opinion and speculation only

This is so off. Child dresses, child packs supplies and he’s off! Nope , not buying this for a second.

If by "his name" you mean the father, I would not post it. AFAIK, I haven't seen the father's name reported in MSM; and even then I don't think it would be allowed unless a POI was named, which isn't the case. LE doesn't suspect foul play at this point, although it's not being ruled out either.

In regards to what's allowed, I've found this to be a helpful link as well: Rules - Etiquette & Information

Best to ask the mods anyway, as they would probably be the best resource regarding what is allowed to be posted, and what isn't. :) Jmo

Former kinder teacher here - yes, way off. And bedtime was 11-12? No.

Sometimes when LE goes to a home (homes) to investigate a case like this they run onto other things in the process such as drugs or other things that has to be addressed as well. What starts out to be one case ends up being several, maybe not even having to do with each other.

Just saw a live report from Jeff City regarding this case. Nothing really new, mainly about how many people have shown up to search.
