Dang it! I stepped away from the boards for the evening after the reports he was foud. I needed to just enjoy a happy ending. Came back to check on details of how he'd ended up so far away and saw it was wrong. Ugggg poor sweet boy. I'll sit on my hands until more is known, just dang it.

i simply would send them off to a news crew so they could get their 15 minutes of fame and take their children home.

Barry Mangold is my favorite reporter for ABC17. He mostly shoots his own video for his reports and many times the video says much more than the scripted report. Much like this one. He knows he can't come right out and say it...but he shows how not real smart some people are.

Also there is not the real intensity that was present last night. Something's up I believe. No pressure to get the parent's interview, etc.

You are way nicer than I am.

I would say "You do realize there is a very good chance that if you find anything it will be a body right? You really bring your kids out here knowing they might find a dead little boy? What is WRONG WITH YOU?"

Then again. I'm not known for my tact or gentleness.

(I would have to pull them aside and tell them if they don’t understand that we do not know what type of trauma little Darnell might have encountered. They would get a lecture on decomp and animal scattering.)

I just can’t stop thinking about this washing machine!!! Maybe when they were interviewing the women they found drugs? So then they were arrested? Is that even a place people would hide it?
Not in the 80s when we did Pot. We would have probably forgotten and ran our tye dye shirts through it. More likely place would be the refrigerator. But that is now where we keep our brownies.

Yes, both drugs and currency! But in this case, it's more likely blood.

Just renoting agencies involved:

“The Cole County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have assisted the Jefferson City Police Department in the search.“

Police say 4-year-old Darnell Gray still missing and endangered, search continues

——

“On Thursday 35 law enforcement personnel assisted in the search, JCPD Lt. David Williams said Friday morning at a news conference. Agencies include the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Cole County Sheriff's Department and the FBI. That night private groups joined the search, gathering in Washington Park and looking inside trash cans, under bleachers and along the banks of a nearby creek.”

Police address volunteer situation in Darnell Gray search

“Williams said the amount of people wanting to help is appreciated, but people need to be careful about how they conduct searches without the police department being notified.

"There have been a lot of people in the community asking us for help and trying to help us with the search efforts," he said. "First and foremost, we want to thank them for that, but at the same time I caution people for self-volunteering to go into our area."”

Also at above link it is asked that search volunteers please call the police dept first and that they have a supervisor assigned just for this.

No.....
They don’t.

Thanks. I read the entire thread anyway.
What a roller coaster this one has been.
And it has only been 3 days. :(

My take on the washer being taken away and the arrest is perhaps someone threw their drugs in the washer to hide them. As the lady was being lead away in handcuffs I heard a child yelling and saying "help" and she yelled a name. I think her kids were taken by Child Protective Services as she was arrested. LE says these events are "unrelated" and they probably technically are. The lady being taken away in handcuffs may have nothing to do with little Darnell being missing, but the fact that they found something bad enough to arrest 2 people and possibly remove other kids from the home is relevant IMO. This is not good. :(

The only hope for a good ending here is if by some small chance some relative came and got Darnell in the middle of the night and is now laughing like crazy at the chaos they created. They would deserve to be arrested if they took him but at least this little boy would still be alive. Praying so hard for an unprecedented outcome here.

“"We have gotten numerous leads come in, but nothing that would change much of what we've been doing since the search began," Jefferson City Police Lt. Dave Williams said during a Friday morning news conference.“

Snip

“"The caller reporting Darnell missing was the caregiver, not family," Williams said. "Family and friends have been working with us ever since."“

——

“We have as many people searching as we can," Lt. David Williams of the Jefferson City Police Department said in a news conference Friday morning.“

Snip

“"If you have too many (volunteers), you lose control of the area," Matherne said in an interview.“

Snip

“Outside of law enforcement, groups including the Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Missouri Missing and others are looking for Gray.“

Jefferson City Police continue search for missing 4-year-old

——

“"We don't believe he could have gotten too far out of this area, so we are still primarily looking there," Williams said. "The FBI is also involved in the search now, so we are taking this very seriously and using as many resources as possible to find this boy."“

Reward offered as search for missing child continues

——

“Heislen says the child’s disappearance isn’t believed to be a parental abduction. He says authorities don’t know what happened to the child. No one has been arrested, and Heislen says the family is cooperating with authorities.“

Authorities search for missing 3-year-old in Missouri

——

“We stayed in the area where Darnell was last seen to make sure we talked to those we may not have been able to talk to earlier," said JCPD Capt. Deric Heislen. "It was probably not as intensive as before, but we have been talking with family members about what they may know that could help us."“

Snip

“"We'll continue looking for the boy as long as needed, and if we have to expand the search we will," Heislen said.“

Still coming up to speed and now it's bedtime for me but I hope to wake tomorrow to see good news. But I'm not gonna hold my breath.

I know in some cases LE makes "unrelated" arrests - probation violations, drugs, outstanding warrants, etc. - in order to have the person in their custody for interviews. Whether that happened here or not, who knows? But I do believe the washer was taken in relation to the case - LE didn't say why they took it. Yeah, probably looking for blood. Remember Sherin Mathews? LE took their washer too.

With the temps so low it's unlikely Darnell is hunkered down somewhere outdoors. I fear the worst and can't help but think of all the littles who "walked out" of their homes, never to be seen alive again.

All MOO.

Agreed. I had high hopes when the false alert of Darnell being found miles away happened, partly because I thought maybe it had been an abduction by a relative or someone known to the family who had access to the home and maybe they'd taken him out of town and were actually caring for him while they had him hidden.

But if that option is off the table it's hard to see a positive outcome now :(

It sounds like he packed up and left. He may be living in a hiding spot he found one day. Maybe near a park if his mom took him to parks a lot.

I’m sorry, a child is missing and you are taken out of the home in handcuffs. Children taking into protective custody. Just another manic day....Nope, not buying into any of this.

“Jefferson City Police Lt. Pat McCutchen met with the group before they began searching. He asked that they be careful because much of the area is hilly and conditions caused by rainfall could make it easy to slip.

"We used our drone and the Missouri Highway Patrol helicopter to look at this area on Thursday, but couldn't find anything," McCutchen said. "There's a lot of leaves still on the trees, so it's back to going out on foot to look through much of the area. It's always good to have another pair of eyes out there looking because we might have missed something."“
