I also got the opportunity to speak with a local reporter that was there for the interview with the sheriff. The reporter's "best guess" on age was pre-puberty, but on the high end of that spectrum. Again, still don't know the gender.

I keep referring to "her" when I am working on this case. Not sure why, but to me it's a "her".

Very sad., just tossed off the side of the road like garbage. I hope the finding of these remains bring closure to some family somewhere.

I feel the same way, and I'm not even sure if it's because females are more likely to be victimized, or if we are just more aware of female victims. (Plus I can't stop thinking of Erica Parsons despite the geographical distance.)

I purposefully had not been keeping up with the Erica Parson's case because I had too many I was trying to keep up with. So, I'm having to go back and start at thread 1 and read all of it.

I don't know, I just feel it's a "her" and Erica keeps coming to mind.

Be sure to check ACandyRose's archives on the case. I also think my assertion of her age when she disappeared was wrong (complicated by the fact that it's almost impossible to know when she was last seen alive--adoptive parents are prodigious liars), but I have definitely never seen a photograph of her that looked older than pre-teen at best.

I found ACandyRose's timeline, etc. She did amazing work! I agree, there are no photos of Erica past about the age of 10 "ish" from what I can find.

Are these the same remains found? Torso not discovered? Was just the skull found? are we finding out any more on these remains found?

This actually made me think of the little African American girl found in 1983 in Missouri

Yes, that's the remains found. Thanks for the link to Namus. I checked earlier this morning they they weren't on there yet.

Locally, reports have been all over whether it was just a skull or if other remains were there as well. The sheriff has just said "skeletal remains" and a "limited amount of evidence at the scene."

anyone notice the unusually high amount of black females missing?

And most of them are from St. Louis. I take it very personally. We have a HUGE number of african american kids and women missing from this area and the metro east.

One of the first names I thought of was Bianca Piper. Doesn't sound like it could be her, though, if the remains are pre-puberty. She was 13, I believe, and big for her age.

I do have a question from the more experienced sleuthers. If the only thing that was found was a skull, how do they know it was pre-puberty?

Very good question.Maybe from her dental?

I also heard that they can tell Age is determined by skull size and development.

Just looked it up. Ossification (joining together of bones) can help determine age. There must have been something about the skull that indicated it was "less than" a certain age.

What I read also says that sex and race can often be determined by the skull. Hopefully, they are able to do that and just didn't want to speculate prior to testing, etc.

It's a lot easier to tell the age of a child than an adult.

1. With babies, forensic anthropologists can get a good age estimate by looking at the fontanelles (gaps in a baby's skull). A newborn's skull isn't fused completely and the different gaps close at different times. The first one closes within 3 months, the second by 6 months, the third by 1 1/2 years and the last one by age 2. So, if you have a a skull and only 2/4 of the fontanelles are closed, it's pretty safe to say to have baby between 3 - 6 months of age.

2. Teeth. A forensic odontologist will take an X-ray of the skull's mouth and compare it to age ''markers''. Basically, they'll put the skull's X-ray up against an X-ray taken of a 4-year-old, 6-year-old, 8-year-old and so on and so on until they find one that's very similar. Then they'll determine the approximate age.

Poor little one!!! I pray you did not lay there suffering before you went home with the angels.

Since there was only a skull, according to Namus, the rest of the remains have to be somewhere, right?

This area of Missouri experienced phenomenal flooding in August. It's possible that the remains were unearthed during the floods and animals carried the skull off. Possibly carried the other remains off as well - so they could be anywhere.

I reshared over on the Erica Parson's thread. Erica had a brother that was in the military in 2011 at Ft. Bragg. Getting caught up on Erica's threads to try to piece her case together.

With the military base right there, the remains could literally be from anywhere.

How long does it take to get DNA results back if they can still get DNA from the remains?

Her brother is still in military, I believe stationed in Fayetteville NC now

If just a skull was found, how do they determine age? From shape & development of jawbone and teeth? Just curious...

ETA never mind! I see it's already been answered :)
