:sigh: There is really not much I can say about this unusual elected official https://twitter.com/MariaChappelleN that is within TOS other than I find her behavior and her barrage of very public comments very disappointing and inflammatory. The term hate speech comes to mind.

Thanks to you popsicle for your continued posting of tweets, feeds and news regarding this ongoing situation.

Back to :lurk: mode

My thoughts exactly! I seriously had to pick my jaw up off the floor after reading what all she said, as if her tweets prior to this weren't bad enough.

And yes thanks Popsicle!

I'm sorry, But if you can prove who you are, then you should not be allowed to vote. There is a reason we all have to register. IMO

I wholeheartedly agree.

I'd also like to point out we are straying back to the voting discussion (mods warned us)

Finally I think the whole MB incident high-lights the lack of education in Ferguson, between MB having to jump through a few hoops to get his own education, to the horrific Town Hall meeting last night. Even Maria's blatant bid to exploit the ignorance of the masses. A great deal of this could be solved by simply ensuring that the public educational system in Ferguson is up to par (I'm not saying give away things, I'm saying ensure that there isn't extra hurdles because of a persons skin-color or background) essentially, equal and fair available education for all...

Then we'd have informed voters.

There is no 'evidence' of widespread voter fraud because once u get away with it, it's done. No evidence left behind. But there have been many instances where they had more votes than there were residents in a precinct. It's not that big a hurdle.

If u can't make it to the DMV, then u probably can't make it to the polls either.

I think my cousin told me her 96-year-old mom votes by mail in Butler County. She hasn't driven in years but she's never missed an election.

I'm surprised that this was even raised as an issue or that it has been tied to the Brown case. It's pretty easy to register to vote and schools teach the importance of it in civics class. Brown was a high school graduate.

In order to enjoy a "good" education I think you need to know how to follow some simple rules. I do not see that being an easy task in ferguson.

Around 2.42 a woman says (not verbatim) how are you getting Ferguson residents involved, unified and equal.

Seems to me either you want to be involved or you don't. You can be part of the problem or solution. If community spent as much energy on coming together, healing and compromise than protesting they could move forward. Have these people not seen video of robbery? Can we discuss that like adults, Ferguson? This is so one sided and city has bent on fines with more to come.

What have I learned from MB shooting is it's perfectly ok to steal, bully, assault, perform willful civil disobedience and negotiate laws. That's a sad role model to other cities and it enrages me as someone who toes the line.

First, all of that doesn't happen over night. It's taken decades for it to get to the point it is right now. It's only been 1 month since the shooting.

I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible to have an adult conversation about anything related to this case. Inevitably it devolves into grade school jabs back and forth (yours truly guilty as charged). One person says the cops are an underground KKK. The other side saying a state senator would prefer Rosa Parks to have blown up the bus. How in the world can an intelligent discussion be had when that is the level of discussion?

And for the record again, the robbery and its video does play a role into determining MB's propensity to violence. It by no means give a definitive answer as to whether the shooting was justified or not. JMO

She isn't crazy in the clinical sense. Crazy as used is just a descriptive term used by those who don't approve of her conduct at this time.

How about saying she's unprofessional?

I'm thinking a basic skills course titled, "how to interact with law enforcement and not get shot" is in order.

Paired with a basic civics course.

And throw in a healthy dose of good old-fashioned "home training."

Agree. And embarrassing (more so because of her tweets than her speech) even though she doesn't represent me where I live, she's still a state senator.

Yep. We were advised about the voter discussion.

Yepp. I think some are just catching up and didn't see the warnings yet. I'm scrolling past those posts so I'm not tempted to respond. Don't want the thread shut down because people are simply catching up.

Local authorities advised protesters not to disrupt interstate traffic, and the Missouri Highway Patrol’s Capt. Ron Johnson said, “Attempting to block an interstate highway is unsafe and unacceptable. … People trying to shut down I-70 would not only create a very serious hazard for themselves, but also for motorists simply trying to get home from school or work,” according to CNN affiliate KMOV.

The voting discussion started because several of the speakers last night were matching t-shirts which said :

LET MY PEOPLE VOTE!

Okay, it's 3:00. The highway blockers are supposed to be gathering somewhere about now in preparation for the big event at 4:30.

it's only 235p in StL

If the highways are slick from the rain, this could be very dangerous. It's impossible to stop quickly on a wet highway.

Sorry to be a little more specific, I think if people were educated they would understand some basic things...like how fake many of the police stunts are in films, or how deadly even shooting someone in the arm or leg can be. I also do agree that people need to have a basic respect for authority.
