Six months before he shot and killed an unarmed teenager, police Officer Darren Wilson earned a commendation for his “extraordinary effort in the line of duty.”

Wilson, a longtime Missouri resident, has been an officer in Ferguson for four years and served in nearby Jennings for two years prior. Jackson said Wilson has no history of disciplinary action and described him as a “gentle man” and a “quiet officer.”

“He has been an excellent officer for the police department,” Jackson said.

I think that's been posted before. Is there something new I should be looking for?

While I understand what you are saying it is a fact that most police officers are not out to win a popularity contest with the public. If they are disliked in a community that has a high crime level then they are doing their job by arresting suspects for crimes. It really isn't the job of a police officer to decide whether or not someone is guilty. Suspects are reported and whatever evidence the officer has at the time, they will make an arrest. Very much like the poor man who was arrested, through no fault of his own, near the Farmer's Market. Regardless of what he said, he was going to jail. They get a complaint, someone snitches on another, 911 is called, officers will do what they are paid to do.

No one is exempt, not a Governor, lawyer, doctor, rich man, poor man, if they have a reason to believe a law has been broken and you are their main suspect you will get arrested. They don't fool around, off you go to jail and let the judge and/or jury figure it out. It is their job and it is what they do. Gone are the days of Mayberry because everything is documented today and if they don't make that arrest and something happens it comes back on them.

While the community may not think he is a great cop it appears the department feels he has done his job. Many officers don't get that chance to go home to their families because they hesitated too long on making that decision all cops dread to even think of making. So people may think they have it bad, try being a cop. jmo

The story I'm referring to, the one profiled on ESPN's E60 occured 1 week before the shooting.

I can share 5 stories about OW off the top of my head- 3 of them I can provide paper evidence of. Not here, of course. One, it's not fair to OW since he's not a member here to defend himself and two, I have little desire to get eaten alive by the posters here. I can't answer as to why you haven't heard anything about him. One of the stories I have personal knowledge of was profiled recently (last week or the week before) on ESPN E60. You can probably google it. As I stated much earlier today, OW was very well known- at least among certain people- in the community, as were other officers, and their reputation among those people was not positive. I can promise you not a single MB supporter thinks of OW as a friend to the community, and many would dispute the level of respect he demonstrated.

As to your point about arresting OW without probable cause, you have to understand that the supporters of MB believe there is probable cause, and that it's already taken too long to bring him to justice. People online are counting the days (I believe today is #44) since the shooting, that OW is a free man. If he was arrested today, you would not be able to convince a single MB supporter that it was a premature act. If he was arrested and ultimately released on a technicality, you still wouldn't be able to convince MB supporters of anything other than what I've already stated.

I don't care why we haven't heard about them in MSM, but have the people involved at least been willing to go to authorities?

I believe the segment is titled "Four Weeks In Ferguson". I had heard about it and heard about one of the players (and maybe his dad?!?!?!) having had an incident with OW a week or 2 before the shooting. I recorded it but have not watched it yet. Hopefully can go do that now.

Respectfully snipped by me. My point to TheDuchess was to provide her with the one example I was allowed to provide her with, since she's never heard any stories about OW. I therefore cited the ESPN E60 special. A football player from MB's high school reported an incident of what ESPN called "harrassment" (their quote) at the hands of OW one week before MB was shot.

Yes, that's the episode. The person who was pulled over was the student, who was in his own car, following his parents one evening. The student was pulled over for not stopping at a stop sign, his father circled back around to him, not wanting to leave his son alone with the police officer, and the incident went from there.

Is that even possible.. an incident of harassment?

Again, TheDuchess said she had never heard one story about OW. I was speaking to the fact that there are stories about OW out there. It's not like he lived in a void, and was completly unknown to mankind prior to this happening.

So at least now it's clear what the protestor's mindset is.

IIRC, the Ferguson wide receiver tells a story of when he was driving home from practice, and was following his Dad and Officer Darren Wilson pulled him over. ! The officer claimed the kid was speeding and ran the red light. Naturally, his Dad gets out of the other car to defend his kid. Allegedly, Darren Wilson was aggressive to both and put the Dad in the back of the Police Car.

I don't see anything at all unusual or unethical in that behavior by OW. Why wouldn't he do so. I think that is protocol. And what they claim is aggressive is likely just the way one officer has to behave, when facing an angry father, coming out of another vehicle.

Most likely, since the kid was following the dad, he ran thr light trying to keep up. I have done that very thing myself, and was ticketed for it.

Sigh. There was an "incident". ESPN used the term harrassment. I have no idea why you guys act this way, simply because I have an opposing view.
