I just listened to the press conference for this latest officer involved shooting in St. Louis and was very impressed with the media officer giving the briefing. He put all the known facts on the table in a clear and unambiguous manner. It's too bad Ferguson PD didn't have someone like that on day one of the Michael Brown saga. It will be interesting to see how the community reacts to this latest shooting. I suspect the revelation that the AA man killed today was brandishing a knife will be seen as "smearing the victim" by many in the community and media who will try to paint him as the "latest victim of a white racist cop".

Because they have every right to defend themselves.
They have a right to go home to their families every damn day.

A guy with a knife is advancing within arms reach ....he Needs to be STOPPED!

Good grief!!!!

I stand by my comment. No need to panic over it. Just sayin'.
Imo-there needs to be alternatives for stopping perceived threatening moves-and many a police department in the United States have these. Considering the current potentially combustive atmosphere in Ferguson-one would think more backup-alternate methods of stopping aggression etc.
I am in no way against cops-

I said earlier that I hope he will try and defuse the situation. Idk if he's going to announce the "the shooting was justified" though, b/c according to all the news channels, they plan to start GJ proceedings tomorrow.

Maybe he is going to announce some of the main "findings" of the investigation. Typically we get a lot more info released, maybe that's what he'll do :dunno:[/QUOTE

I think if they say justified were "scre$ed - it will go nuts remember Rodney and I dont recall if Rodney had the "buildup" were at here . Its almost like they are trapped - for the good of people IMO they should release pics of face, tell us if bullet in his car something concrete to start to prove it was justified , like do it slow, let "proof" slowly set in like a buffer

they come out and say justified look out the community will use that as proot that the system is rigged and I fear it will then spread in terms of other locations

nice and slow...................................

I will add... LE did the best job last night. IMO they have become very organized and responded to outbursts.

I thought the LOUD --extremely loud --siren and the officers marching
thing was brilliant.

Another thing, LEO's who knew where to extract trouble makers from the crowd.....another brilliant move.

KUDOS TO LE AND the NATIONAL GUARD

Somewhere in AMerica (did not catch) is looking like Katrina - people on roof from rain

and so it goes.........................

Apparently the guy was begging to be killed ... Literally, while advancing with a knife. Sounds like an accurate description to me

Sounds like a suicide by cop kind of thing.

""Officers received a call for a subject who appeared agitated and was armed with a knife. Suspect yelled kill me now and approached," Dotson tweeted.

Two officers arrive at the scene aware of the situation, and ask the crazy guy to put down the weapon he was using to goad them into killing him, and when he refused and approached them they granted his wish? There should have been a better way to deal with such a scenario than that imo. It at least seems to be a training failure.

We will have differing opinions. :). I see it as intentionally stirring the pot by CNN, but it may be b/c CNN has gone over the top w their coverage and bias w this situation.

Does anyone know the reason why last night LE thought it was good to make people keep walking??

If they stopped and congregated, they could be arrested for unlawful assembly, disturbing the peace, etc.

Yes IA that's why I said I don't think Holder would make such a bold announcement. But maybe he will divulge some of the info that can show MB wasn't just "randomly executed."

And lord, I remember the Rodney King case!!! Horrible. We didn't have all the insta access we have today, but it was all on film. *shudders* at the memory of the riots that caused.

Also wanted to point out that a few hours ago, when trying to view Black Canseco's video with the man talking in the background about Michael charging at the cop, the video was not available anymore, it has a message "this video is private". Either someone out there is doing damage control or perhaps LE has done this for the purpose of evidence collection.

One of the things I have taken away from what I have seen is that even though the "stop" of MB and friend may not have immediately been because of the theft and assault at the convenience store, the tape does show his demeanor overall. To me it was not his first time of using his size to intimidate and do what he wanted.

To me it is shameful the way this shooting has been used as a guise to demonstrate about race when there is no evidence of it. There were witnesses in the first few days that stated MB was shot in the back. There is no evidence of that, however it fed the frenzy of the crowd. Even the family attorney is using language that MB was "executed" and to my knowledge there is no evidence of that. However the crowd to a degree will "trust" his words when in fact he has an agenda, IMO.

IMO when the chant is "No Justice No Peace" is holding Justice hostage. If you do not QUICKLY give us what WE determine Justice, we will continue the violence and tear up property until then. And all this before an investigation is complete. The idea that the DOJ is called in from day 3 of an investigation is uncalled for when there is yet to be proof of impropriety.

It has been criticized that MB's body lay in the street for 3-4 hours. That was done to allow criminal investigators to arrive and process the scene. It is done all over the US daily. Had his body been removed prior to proper CI to do their work, evidence could have been destroyed. Local knew right away the scrutiny that was coming. They took "hands off" the initial investigation to wait for FBI and County CI, and are being criticized for it.

JMO's

I think this needed to be reposted......

Yes that was awful. I was living in Northern California and there were even riots there. I recall having to drive 8 week old rescue puppies to a vet and go through San Francisco where looting and major protests were occurring, I had a loaded shotgun in the trunk just in case (it may not have been legal but no rioters/looters were going to touch/menace my fragile rescue pups).

I thought maybe it was the link that I had earlier. I saw that too. Hoped it was LE that took it down.
